THE TAAP APPROACH

Inclusive development is key to advancing more peaceful and just

societies. The challenges of inclusion can seem overwhelming. How do

we integrate principles of inclusion into our work? What do inclusion

and exclusion look like in the contexts in which we work? How do

we understand and address systems of power and exclusion in an

intentional and transformative way? In a concerted effort to answer

these questions, World Learning and a team of development partners are

co-creating a practical gender equality and social inclusion resource for

program implementers, evaluators and policymakers –The Transforming

Agency, Access, and Power (TAAP): Tapping into the Voices, Skills, and

Experiences Framework and Toolkit.

By the year 2030, our global community

has committed to achieve a set of

Sustainable Development Goals that

aspire to “shift the world onto a

sustainable and resilient path” and

“[leave no one] behind on the collective

journey.” We believe inclusion is

essential to achieve these goals.

OUR APPROACH IS TO

LISTEN, DESIGN, TRANSFORM.

INCLUSIVE DESIGN THAT BRINGS

POWER INTO FOCUSThe TAAP Toolkit will give development practitioners a framework and

practical analytical tools to integrate attention to social inclusion in program

design, implementation, and learning. It will pull from existing gender,

disability, and conflict analysis frameworks and address the integration of

historically marginalized communities, including women, sexual, religious,

ethnic and racial minorities. The Toolkit, expected to be released Fall 2016,

is designed to be responsive to many different environments and contexts.

THE TAAP TOOLKIT

• Amplify the voices, dreams and dignity of those people historically

left out of international development programs

• Provide evidence-based approaches for working with vulnerable people

• Help practitioners better design and implement inclusive strategies,

participatory processes and transformational activities in development

programming; and

• Reflect international values and commitments to sustainable development

and human rights

WHAT TAAP WILL BRING

TRANSFORMING AGENCY ACCESS AND POWERTapping into the Voices, Skills, and Experiences of All People

TAAP can accommodate a variety of users to better

understand inclusion and exclusion in a setting.

This includes community-based/grassroots organizations,

national and regional organizations, international partners

and implementers, multilateral organizations, and others.
