COVER ARTWORKWILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER :: ROSALIE WINARD “Great Egret, Snowy Egrets,Laughing Gull” , New Pass, Sarasota, Florida, 1988”

The Armory Art Center is thrilled to be presenting thewildlife photographs of Rosalie Winard - an award winningphotographer and ornithologist whose natural photos of wetlands birdsare both very beautiful and informative. Her collections are in the Libraryof Congress, The Brooklyn Museum, and The New York Historical Societyand owned by private collectors including Nelson Mandela, DavidRockefeller and Oliver Sacks.

The exhibition will be supported by her lecture at The Society of the FourArts, Palm Beach at 10am on Dec. 16, 2011, and should be a veryimportant exhibition for this area. Many of Rosalie’s birds are in Floridawetlands settings, including the Brown Pelican and the Egrets, some inbreeding plumage. As a naturalist she brings an understanding of birdlife to her photos, and knows how patient she must be to get the perfectphoto.

The exhibition opens on Dec. 16 and will run through Jan. 21, 2012. Theexhibition will be launched on the evening of December 16, 2011, withthe support of Diana Barrett for The Fledgling Fund.

The catalog cover is her shot of Great Egret, Laughing Gull, New Pass,Sarasota, Florida,1988, from her book, Wild Birds of the AmericanWetlands.

CURVED, HERBERT MEHLER SCULPTURESDecember 16, 2011-April 6, 2012

Opening Reception: Dec.16, 2011, 6-8pmThe Armory Art Center and Lausberg

Contemporary, Toronto, Düsseldorf, Floridahave partnered to present an exhibition oflarge-scale steel sculptures by Herbert Mehlerin the Sculpture Garden.

The inspiration for Mehler’s artwork comesfrom organic, natural matter such as fruits andseeds. The sculptures serve as a play betweenlight fluid shapes and the seeminglyinsurmountable weight of the metal. At thesame time, the rhythmic, fan-like structurestrongly suggests architectural and man-madeforms. It is this ambivalence between thenatural and the man-made that makesMehler’s works so captivating.
