  What can Physio-based Pilates classes do for you… Physio-based Pilates is an effective treatment technique that holds enormous potential for creating a more balanced and aligned body. This can help with both injury prevention and injury recovery.

Joseph Pilates (the creator of the Pilates method) believed that injuries were caused by imbalances in the body and altered patterns of movement. Concentrating on precision of movement and awareness of breath control will enable you to alter abnormal patterns of movement, which can improve core strength and daily function.

The Instructor is a fully qualified Physiotherapist and has been trained in the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute (APPI) Method of Pilates, which has been designed by Physiotherapists, for use by health care professionals in both rehabilitation and community settings.

The 5 Key Elements of the APPI Pilates method are:

1. Breathing – Improve your breath control to encourage correct core-muscle engagement.

2. Centring – Develop a muscular “corset” to support your back against the strains of day-to-day life.

3. Ribcage Placement – Increase the level of deep abdominal/core muscle activation.

4. Shoulder Blade Placement – Improve upper body strength & stability to combat common injures.

5. Head & Neck Placement - Improve posture by using the deep postural muscles correctly.

   Choose from a variety of classes to suit your needs: Gentle Pilates is the perfect class to get you started on your Pilates journey. It is also ideal for those wanting a gentler workout. You will learn the main principles and key moves of Pilates, with great attention to technique. This class will give you an exceptional foundation to build upon. Suitable for both men, women and pregnant women in their first trimester who have already been exercising prior to becoming pregnant. (Maximum of 12 people per class).

Enjoying Pilates is the next step on for those with a good foundation in Pilates. It takes the main principles and key moves of Pilates and builds upon them further, using a variety of equipment to have fun with and challenge you. This class is ideally joined after 6 weeks in Gentle Pilates. Suitable for both men, women and pregnant women in their first trimester who have already been exercising prior to becoming pregnant. (Maximum of 12 people per class).

Pregnancy ‘In Motion’ is designed especially for pregnant women from their second trimester onwards. This fun class is designed to help you maintain excellent posture and fitness throughout your pregnancy, preparing you for your labour and post-natal period. The first part of the class will involve cardio-based exercises performed on a swiss-ball. The second part involves Pilates-based exercises, working on specific core muscle groups relevant for pregnancy, in particular the pelvic floor. (Maximum of 12 people per class).

Post Natal Pilates classes are available for new mums, once you’ve had your 6-week check with your GP/midwife. This class has a gentle approach; paying particular attention to re-gaining pelvic floor control and strengthening core muscles that may have become week following your pregnancy/birth. I am also available for 1:1/group home classes on request. (Maximum of 8 people per class).

Charlotte Chapman (Physiotherapy BSc Hons) is a fully qualified Physiotherapist who has trained and worked in teaching hospitals and private hospitals in London. Charlotte is available for a variety of Physiotherapy services: including injury prevention, Physio-based Pilates, post-operative rehabilitation and community physiotherapy (including coming home following a recent hospital admission and falls prevention). Physiotherapy Movement MOT Your body and movement are essential for leading a healthy and functional life. I am passionate about injury prevention and optimising movement. A lot of musculoskeletal injuries can be avoided through lifestyle advice and a regular home exercise regime. So book your Physiotherapy Movement MOT now: You will receive a thorough initial assessment, followed by individually tailored advice and a home exercise programme. The exercise programme you receive can include postural, endurance and aerobic exercise; aiming to prevent injuries further down the road and keeping your movement strong and flexible.
