Getting Started_________________________ All seam allowances are 1/4” and all fabric is sewn right sides together unless otherwise indicated.

Press all seams to the darker fabric.

Fabric on the cover is Bijoux by Kathy Hall for Andover Fabrics.

Applique & Embroidery_______________________ You will need to allow more fabric for fraying and distortions when appliquéing. We recommended trimming the block to size after the appliqué and stitchery are complete.

Applique

You can appliqué in your favorite method, we’ve used a fusible-web method (directions to follow). We have included reversed images for your convenience. You may also consider tracing the image on to the fabric for easier placement.

We love and would recommend using the Soft Fuse brand because it is light weight and is easy to stitch through multiple layers.

a quilt by meags & meDirections for fusible-web: 1. Position the fusible-web over the picture and trace each shape. Keep the paper side

up and the glue side down. 2. Cut fusible-web loosely around design. 3. Position the fusible-web design on the BACK of the fabric you’ve chosen for appliqué.

Keep the paper side up, and the glue side down. Use a hot iron to fuse cloth to the fusible-web.

4. Use sharp scissors to cut out the design. 5. Remove paper backing from all pieces, leaving the webbed glue on fabric. 6. Carefully position pieces/layers as needed and use a hot iron to fuse all pieces to the

background fabric. 7. Finish edges using a button hole stitch, either by machine or hand, in a matching thread.

Embroidery You will need to allow more fabric for fraying and distortions when embroidering. We recommended trimming the block to size after the stitchery is complete. List of Floss: Cosmo 319 (Navy)

Complete all embroidery after appliqué has been completed. All stitchery uses 2 strands of embroidery floss. All flowers, bird wings, and bird hair are backstitched, and the small dots above the tulip-style flowers are French Knots.
