PDF Documents



Annotate PDFs, Save TimeIf you are using an older version of Adobe Reader to view PDF files,

upgrade to Adobe Reader XI. This latest version of Adobe Reader is rich

in coenting features that will save you fro ultiple tas!s such asta!ing printouts, scanning ar!ed copies, or typing lengthy instructions

for providing feedbac! on your boo!.

"pgrading to Adobe Reader XI is free and siple. Type #adobe

reader $i% in &oogle and clic! on any of the first few entries of the search

results. 'nce you are on the download page (Figure )*, you can install

the application in easy steps.

After you finish installation, use this guide to annotate PDF files andsend your feedbac! in a very short tie. Although this guide e$plains

tools found in Adobe Reader XI, you can use it for other PDF+ar!ing

software.

ar!ing PDF files e$pedites the publishing process since the

response tie gets reduced fro days to hours. -y annotating PDFs, you

can review a chapter within a couple of hours and instantly reply to your

editor.

Know Your ToolsTo ar! corrections and feedbac!, you will reuire only the following

tools available on the coent panel (Fig. /*0 insert+te$t tool 1)2, replace+

te$t tool 1/2, delete tool 132, add+note+to+te$t tool 142, te$tbo$ tool 152, andte$t+callout tool 162. 7ou can activate the coenting panel by clic!ing

on #coent% on the e$tree right of the toolbar (Fig. 3a*. If the toolbar is

hidden (Fig. 3b*, go to view and clic! on coent8annotations.

Insert-Text Tool"se the insert tool to indicate where to insert te$t or punctuation ar!s

in the paragraph. 9lic! on the point where you want to insert, and a pop+

up will appear. :iply type in the pop+up what you want to insert. 7oudo not have to give any instructions about what to insert.

Replace-Text Tool"se the replace tool to indicate the te$t you want to change. :elect theword or para you want to replace and type in your replaceent. Again as

before, you do not have to give any instructions.

Delete Tool;hen you select the te$t you want to delete, a red line appears, indicating

the portion to be deleted.

Add-Note-To-Text Tool

If you want to underline te$t or a!e it bold or italic, use the note tool. <ust select the te$t and write the instruction in the pop+up that appears.

The selected te$t will get highlighted.

Textox ToolThe te$tbo$ tool can be used to give general instructions to the editor,

such as #decrease space between paragraphs% or #=ustify paragraphs%.

Text-!allout ToolTe$t+callout tool is particularly useful to indicate precisely where to insert

figures, tables, or additional te$t within paragraphs.

!omments "istThe coents list allows you to uic!ly review all your rear!s whenyou reach the end of the docuent. If the list is not open, clic! on

#9oents >ist% =ust below the #Drawing ar!ups% panel.

Properties o# Tools7ou can change the properties of all these tools by opening the properties

panel. The short+cut !ey for opening the panel is 9trl?@. Figure ) shows

soe options available in the tools discussed before.

A $aster Tool #or T%ree ToolsThe Bte$t+correction+ar!upB tool can be used in place of the insert,

replace, and delete tools. :elect the te$t you want to replace and startwriting. 'r if you want to delete the selected te$t, press the delete !ey. To

indicate an insertion, siply start writing after clic!ing on the point

where you want to insert your te$t.

Sin&le-Ke' AcceleratorsAccessing all these tools is at your fingertips. Press #@% for selecting the

te$t+correction+ar!up tool, #X% for the te$tbo$ tool, and #P% for the te$t+

callout tool. -ut for this, you have to activate the single+!ey accelerators.

First open the preferences dialogue bo$ by pressing 9trl?C (Figure )3*.

Then clic! on #&eneral% and tic! the first chec!bo$0 #use single+!ey

accelerators to access tools%. After this you do not even have to open the

coent panel.

Savin& !omments;hatever changes you ar!, you have to save the. Adobe Reader XIgives you the option to save the ar!ed file with a new nae, thus

preserving the original file. ;hen you press 9trl?:, a window appears in

which you can change the nae of the file and save it in any place you

want.
