Platform DescriptionThe OCTBTS 3600 includes all baseband processing and low-power RF functions. The platform integrates dual OCT2224W baseband SoCs and dual 2X2 MIMO transceivers to simultaneously support two air interfaces. L2/L3 protocol processing and application processing are handled by the host PC.

The OCTBTS 3600 also includes a GPS module to derive accurate timing for the wireless network.

From Platform to SystemOctasic has already integrated flexiPHY with Layer 2/3 software from leading vendors, including Aricent and Radisys, saving months of development work.

OEMs supply their own PC and RF front ends (power amplifier, duplexer, and if necessary, low-noise amplifier), power supply, and packaging, as well as any necessary software applications.

Adaptable Base Station Platform

Flexible Packaging OptionsAs a standard PCIe card, the OCTBTS 3600 can be installed in a wide variety of form factors. Motherboards and cases are available in a range of formats, from standard 1U, 19-inch rack-mount server cases, all the way to large chassis designed to support multiple PCIe cards.

Power consumption is approximately 15 Watts for the radio system without a power amplifier, keeping it well within PCIe power supply and cooling requirements. The inward-facing RF connectors make it easy to interconnect the OCTBTS 3600 with the radio front end within the chassis.

Software SolutionUsers of the OCTBTS 3600 have access to integrated hardware/software base station solutions. The OCT2224W DSP runs Octasic’s flexiPHY modem software, while the PC host processor runs the Layer 2/3 software.

Complete solutions are available for a range of air interfaces including GSM/EDGE, UMTS/HSPA, LTE and CDMA2000.

Applications SupportFor autonomous operation the PC host processor can also support a complete core network, enabling network-in-a-box type applications, as well any proprietary functions required by the end user.

High Performance SDR Platform The OCTBTS 3600 is a fully-programmable SDR base station platform. It supports standard cellular air interfaces, as well as proprietary waveforms, over a wide range of frequencies and channel bandwidths.

The OCTBTS 3600 offers a range of features designed to optimize the performance of base stations and radio systems, including:

• Each transceiver/baseband combination can be configured as an independent radio sector.

• Hardware acceleration blocks (HAB) in the OCT2224W SoCs enable 20 Km range for all cellular standards, including WCDMA/HSPA, and other CDMA-based standards.

• Frequency agility under software control from 400 MHz to 3 GHz, with a frequency tuning time of 25 micro-seconds.

• Support for vehicular-speed mobility with macro base station style channel estimation and Doppler frequency shift correction.

Development EnvironmentOctasic provides a complete set of development tools for customers wishing to integrate their own Layer 2/3 software, or develop their own PHY layer and waveform code, including:

• Opus Studio integrated development environment (IDE)

• OCTBTS Evaluation and Development Kit (hardware and software)

• OCT2224W board support package (drivers)• Source code licenses for flexiPHY
