Page 2: PCA Eagle’s Nest News March 5, 2019 ... · From Mr. Odell’s desk: (God’s Word given to teachers each week and we want to share with you, also!) Psalm 103:1-14 1 Bless the Lord,

From Mr. Odell’s desk: (God’s Word given to teachers each week and we want to share with you, also!)

Psalm 103:1-14

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and

forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems

your life from destruction, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your

mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. 6 The Lord executes righteousness

and justice for all who are oppressed. 7 He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.

8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. 9 He will not always strive with

us, nor will He keep His anger forever. 10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us

according to our iniquities.11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward

those who fear Him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from

us. 13 As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him. 14 For He knows our frame; He

remembers that we are dust.

It is impossible to think of the love of God apart from his holiness. The reason is that God’s character is en-

countered as he is, as the encounter with the one, almighty, all knowing, all powerful, ruler of all eternity. To

put it clearly in our language of today God is “the whole package” or “the real deal”. When examining the

character of God, the absolute unity of God is clearly seen. David proclaims this truth in this Psalm. He begins

with a call to bless God’s Holy name and then proceeds to illustrate how God’s Holy character spills out on us

as those who are genuine believers in Him, those who trust in the redeeming work of Christ on the cross. All

that God is flows from His Holiness, His complete “otherness” from us.

Take a moment this day to revel in the character of God and allow Him to penetrate our lives with who He

truly is.

CONGRATULATIONS Sarah & Olivia!!!!

On to State!

Princeton Christian Academy eighth grade student, Sarah Free-

man, and sixth grade student, Olivia Partin, have advanced as

finalists to the State Elks Essay Contest with their essays on

“What Makes You Proud of America?” Both girls entered their

essays in the Oglesby Elks contest in different age divisions.

Out of approximately 100 submissions, their essays were two

of six essays (the top three of each age category) that ad-

vanced to the district level. District judging was recently com-

pleted, sending both girls’ essays onto the State contest to be

judged there.

The local and district winners will be honored at a local Elks

banquet in April. The winners at the state level will be honored

with an all-expense paid trip to Springfield in May. The winner

of the state will be awarded $500, second place wins $300, and

third wins $150. State winners will advance to the national

competition where winners are announced at a convention in

St. Louis, MO on June 30-July 3, 2019.

CHRISTIAN ROSARIO WINS DAR ESSAY CONTEST

Princeton Christian Academy eighth grader,

Christian Rosario, won first place in the

Princeton DAR Chapter American History Es-

say Contest. The topic for this year was “The

Women’s Suffrage Campaign,” and students

were required to research the topic and then

write an essay of 600-1000 words from the

point of view of someone living in 1919, in-

cluding the pros and cons of the passage of

the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. A

bibliography listing all sources was also re-

quired.

Christian competed against 77 area students

from other schools for this honor. He was

presented with a medal and certificates at a

DAR luncheon last week. His essay has been

forwarded to the State level of competition,

after which the winning state essays advance

to National competition. Christian is the son

of Norman and Caroline Rosario of Princeton.
