She finished with six strikeouts and fourwalks while throwing 101 pitches.

“Sometimes, it helps a pitcher when theyaren’t quite consistent like she was,” SonjiaCotter said. “She was a little bit (wild), com-pared to how she usually is, and we were sec-ond-guessing ourselves.”

Anderson also credited Mendenhal for hav-ing a bit of extra movement on her pitches.

“It did look like she had a little bit of sink toher pitches that we normally don’t see fromher,” he said. “With the success we’ve hadagainst her in the past, I don’t have an expla-nation why we didn’t do more than we didtonight.”

The Lady Jays finished with nine hits off ofCotter and struck out just once.

Forsyth crushes CraneWith the door open for Stifler to play in the

Class 1 District 8 semifinal round this year, she showed off her healthy hitting stoke.

Stiffler had two hits and two RBIs inForsyth’s 7-1 win over Crane on Tuesday.

A year ago, the door was shut, literally, onStiffler being able to suit up at this stage. Sheneeded five stitches in her right hand when acar door slammed onto her hand earlier thatday. She was not able to play in Forsyth’ssemifinal loss to Clever.

“The car was on a hill and I saw the doorwas going to shut on (a friend’s) leg, so Ireached out to grab it,” Stiffler said. “At first,I thought I was fine. But then I looked at myhand and I was like, ‘Whoa!’ and freaked out.I couldn’t have much movement in my hand

or bend it.“It was devastating. I wanted to play for my

team and couldn’t.”Forsyth (16-10) dominated Crane, jumping

out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and addinga single tally in the second and four more runsin the fifth.

The Lady Panthers also received two hitsfrom third baseman Sydnee Cotter and a pairof RBIs from catcher Jessica Carley.

Forsyth’s hitters had to adjust from excep-tionally slow pitching on Monday versusSpokane to much faster pitching from Crane.

“It was challenging because it was a big dif-ference,” Stiffler said. “We worked on it inpractice. Coach cranked up the pitchingmachine high so we could get (adjusted) tothe speed.”
