    Sunburn

-Amount of UV exposure is greaterthan what canbe protected againstbythe skin's melanin.

-The lighteryour skin, the less melaninithas to absorb UV and protectitself.

    -

responds to continued sun exposure bythickening and hardening ~ Leathery

    ~ wrinkles

    Skin cancer- Ultravioletradiation

    -Energy of sunlight ~ radiation

    Eye damage

    -

Damage tissue of the eyes- Excess exposure to UV radiation mayincrease the incidence of cataracts

    -

the loss of transparency inthe lens, clouding vision.

    Plants :

Transpiration ~ loss of water vaporfrom parts of plants~ cools plants and enables mass

flow of mineral nutrients and water

from roots to shoots. Up to 99% of the water absorbed by

roots is lost via transpiration throughplant leaves

rate of transpiration is directly relatedto the degree of stomata opening,

HOW DIRECT SUNLIGHT CANCAUSE SKIN CANCER?

There are three basic types of ultraviolet radiation:

    UVA (long-wave UV),

    UVB (sunburn UV), and

    UVC (short-wave UV)

    - UV radiation reaches the skin some radiation is reflected away

Remaining radiation is scattered into the tissues just beneath the skin's

surface absorbed by the skin's living cells.

UV radiation damages the fibers in the skin called elastin the skin begins

to sag, stretch, and lose its ability to go back into place after stretching

tears more easilytaking longer time to heal.

    Damage can result in:

    sunburn

increased rate of aging of the skin

    skin cancer.

    How plant adapt in straight

    sunlight????

Enable mass flow of liquid water ,cools plants

Transports nutrients from the soil into the

roots and carries them to the various cells ofthe plant and is used to keep tissues from

    becoming overheated.

Rate of transpiration is directly related to the

degree of stomata opening, Adaptation is necessary to limit the loss of

    water from plant tissue
