Promoting Positive Behavior
Some students are starved for attention.
For some students, the type of attention does not matter.
The behavior you pay the most attention to is the behavior you will get more of in the future.
Increasing Positive Interactions
3:1 Positive to negative interactions by scanning the area to “search” for reinforceable behaviors.
Increase the time you spend on positive interactions vs. the time you spend on negative interactions.
Build a relationship with your students.
Decreasing Negative Interactions
Analyze the physical setting, schedule, organization. Are there any potential trouble spots?
Line up, enter, and exit the area in a systematic manner.
Precorrect a misbehavior before it occurs by giving a prompt or frequent reminder.
Decreasing Negative Interactions
You can also praise a student for a correct behavior to see if the misbehaving student changes their own behavior.
Intervene only if the student does not change the behavior and don’t forget your 3 positive interactions.
CHAMPS Professional Development
All professional staff will be responsible for presenting 1 chapter from the CHAMPS book, in order to promote learning and progress within our school learning community.
