She started having epilepsy at around the age of 4 or 5 I think, with one fit which lasted probably less than a minute.They never actually lasted more than a minute I would guess, just seems a long time at the time. They gradually increased until about 18months - 2 years months later when she had 5 in one day, the vets then put her on medication - Phenobarb? I believe.This stopped the fits until the dosage needed correcting. Megan had to have regular check ups every 6 months (I think) and the medication did gradually increase. Megan actually contracted Bone Cancer in her shoulder which sadly ended her life at the age of 10 1/2. That's about all the information I can give you I'm afraid - hope it helps in some way.

Medication: Initially Pexion, after 6 weeks Libromide was added This combination was satisfactory for a while but then fits resumed, if anything worse than previously, he then had Epiphen and also Diazapam. Neutered after onset of fits. From the outset His fits were severe and caused significant memory loss and required a lot of retraining etc. We had a honeymoon period when we thought that the medication was going to control the seizures but when they resumed each time he had one it was severe and the recuperation period took longer. He had a very severe cluster of fits which effectively wiped his memory and character. He was very close to death but pulled through. We taught him to walk etc again and after 6 weeks he was basically ok. He was a different dog but he liked us and was content in his life. He then had another severe seizure during the night which left him parylised from the shoulders. We then made the decision that he should be pts. 1st June 2015 aged 3 yrs and 5 months.

Has had two seizures eight days apart in June 2017. Was seen by vet immediately after first seizure and haematology and biochemistry were all normal. Was referred for MRI which was also normal. Both seizures lasted 2-3 minutes approximately and recovered quickly. Second seizure was slightly worse and he lost control of his bladder. Unsure of triggers as first was out on a walk and second agility training. I do however think stress/overarousal could be a possible trigger.

His fits have become less frequent but this may coincide with having all possible test done, including an MRI scan and spinal fluid tap, to diagnose epilepsy and being put on the right medication. Vet confirmed Idiopathic Epilepsy. No identifiable cause for fits. Medication: Pexion 400mg twice daily. One small fit on 28.06.13 whilst asleep on sofa lasting less than a minute, recovered within 10 mins. No further fits until 9th July, when found fitting in the morning. Rectal Diazepam given. Fitted again same day at 3pm, same treatment, but 4 further fits, taken to vet, kept overnight and stabilised. home on the 10th but fitting again between 11am and 2pm so back to vet and again kept in overnight and sedated, Phenobarbitone and on a drip. Had hormone problems, extended heats and very frequent. Was being seen for this and plan was to desex. Had one fit, witnessed. Was mild, turned blue, fell over, only a few seconds, awoke, perfectly clear and normal. No fits for several wks, then had a fit in the night, grand mal, severe, clusters, taken to vet and put to sleep the next day, vet unable to stop them. Unsure if this was caused by epilepsy or some other problem. Vet could find no sighs of tumors, heart problems and all labs normal.

Comments:

Began fitting age 20 months, cluster 1 week before 2nd birthday. Vet. Confirmed Idiopathic Epilepsy after MRI and spinal tap. No identifiable cause for fits. Medication: 2x 60mg Epiphen daily. Has had a handful of mild single fits since medication began, but has days when appears to be 'out of it' & wobbly. Neutered age 19 months.

Initial course of Diazepam for approximately one week; treated with Epiphen twice daily from day of second fit for four weeks. owners report that his epiphen dose had been reduced gradually to 1/4 tablet each day (as he had suffered no further fits after the initial two) with the plan to take him off meds altogether in another week. However, their vet has now advised that the dosage should be returned to 1/2 tablet each day.

The morning of Rhetts first seizure they were spraying the fields across the lane from me, which I later walked all the dogs across.

Fitting began aged 16 months. Not vet confirmed as Epilepsy. Medication: see below. First fit 28.10.14 - seizure in the afternoon, followed by a slow but full recovery to normal state. Second fit 29.10.14 at 7am. Seen by the vet after each seizure and blood tests undertaken. Vet advised diagnosis of idiopathic epilepsy at this stage but as yet no MRI or spinal tap has been carried out. He is otherwise fit and well with no further seizures as of 2.12.14 .. Bloods have been sent to Epiphen to assess viability of phasing out medication. 24.9.14 castration under general anaesthetic; vet treated with Advantage for possible fleas same week; 1.10.14 first year vaccination; 25.10.14 routine worming with Panacur. Fitting began aged 4.9 months. Vet confirmed as Epilepsy. Nothing unusual happened although breeder says could be any number of influences such as sofa, underfloor heating river water etc. No relevant injury but has been treated by chiropractor of misaligned pelvis in past two weeks. . 4 fits so far each approximately 10 days apart. Medication commenced 23 June 14 - too early to determine. MRI scan to be carried out 2 July. Entire. 20.07.14 Up date. Kez had MRI & Spinal Tap at R Vet College 2nd July, result 'Unremarkable' therefore epilepsy confirmed. Epiphen 60mg twice a day. Due to the way the fitting started Consultant thought that I should expect Kez to fit every couple of weeks but so far he has been clear and in good health showing no effects of the drug. Consultant did not feel that I should go through the same procedure with my other, related, BC as the result would likely be the same. update 2.10.15: Kez, after starting medication in July 14 very few isolated fits but they resumed in Sept 15 as clusters - at least 6 in 24hours. Vet added Libromide, 325gms a day after a 5 day loading period. Also Epiphen 90 2 x daily. clear since 4 Sept, Frequency: No fits from July to Feb after

After first cluster of focal seizures in June 16, Bilbo was taken to AHT and prescribed Epiphen. He went on to have further fits and is now on Epiphen 75mg twice daily, and KBr 325mg twice daily.

Nothing unusual happened that might have caused the fits although the bredder suggested that sleeping on the sofa might be the cause. - there seems to be many fitters in breeders lines. Fed Raw - Natures Menu No change to diet since fits began. First episode lasted approximately 90 seconds with full recovery after 30 minutes. Subsequent episodes - 5 over 36 hours much more intense and lasting around 5 minutes each time. Neutered around 16 months - First fit 9 April 2014 so neutering not thought to have had any impact. 20.07.14 Update to Rosmarinus Golden Crown. Further cluster fitting 7 weeks after previous episode, vet have prescribed Pexion 400 2 x daily as homeopathic medication was not effective. I discussed Switch's condition with Consultant at R Vet College - it was his opinion, that due to pedigree history that there would be no benefit an MRI scan and spinal tap. If severe cluster fits in future has recommended Keppra be prescribed. Otherwise Switch is in good health currently. Update 2-10-15 Fitting

He was eating quite a lot of cheese for training and as trick training.Vet said cheese can trigger seizures in some dogs. Suffers from focal seizures affecting his back right leg. After a severe one at 15 months lasting over an hour, decided to medicate. Vet prescribed 30mg Epiphen, twice a day. Was fed on a complete natural wet food and some kibble until diagnosed. After research switched to raw feeding. He is now fed on Natural Instinct food and Natural Instinct treats. I can't stress enough how strict we follow this diet, he never gets any human or dog treats that are not his own. As he was seizure free for 6 months on medication, Vet suggested taking him off medication. He has now been off tablets for a month and has been seizure free. Entire.

Fitting began aged 4 years 7 months. Vet confirmed as Epilepsy. Medication: Epiphen 60mg twice daily - first prescribed 29.12.14 .He had a bad ear infection and was sedated then anaesthetised where his ear was flushed. We originally thought he had something in his ear as he was head shaking. With the drug Epiphen in his system the fits are less severe though still as debilitating but not for such a long period. He was neutered before the fits began. He had a retained testicle-removed early on then a benign lump in the remaining testicle/overgrowth of hormonal cells. the testicle was removed in 2013. He is on Green Dog Turkey and Rice kibble and has always been on this food. It has never been changed

Suspect Stimulus:Fitting began age 26 months. Vet. confirmed as Epilepsy. Medication 1.25 Epiphen 3x daily and Libromide 1x daily. First fit in form of cluster age 26 months (April 2012). Minor facial seizure in August 2012 & cluster fit in November 2012. X-ray, Spinal Tap & MRI on brain, all OK. Neurologist suggested Idiopathic Epilepsy. Neutered. Given sleep 09/01/14, following a cluster of fits.

Fits began aged 8 months. Vet confirmed as Epilepsy. Medication: Initially Valium and Phenobarbitone. Then Potassium Bromide and epilim added after specialist advice. Doses systematically increase which increased the space between fits but did not reduce the intensity when the cluster fits happened. These required large doses of iv vallium and Phenobarbitone for 12 hours. iv dexamethasone was given the following day and subcutaneously the next 2 days. No changes made to diet. First few were single fits then every fit was a cluster fit. Response to increased medication doses was to increase the time between fits. There were no fits between Feb and June 92 then the intensity got increasingly worse. Neutered on Vets advice, but made no impact on fits. Euthanised in July 1992 when fit frequency increased to less that 1 week between clusters and the drugs were affecting his liver. His personality also changed and he lost the ability to remember simple commands.
