    Welcome to Good Shepherd Chapel

    Scripture

The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back, the injured I will bind up, the sick I

    heal, (Ezekiel 34:16)

Beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul. He guides me in right paths for his n

    sake. (Psalm 23:2)

comed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me. (Mat2

    Reflection

What saints have been Christ to others?

What individuals in our own time are Christ to others?

Have you ever witnessed someone being Christ to others?

How could you be Christ to others?

What ministries in your parish exist for this purpose?Prefer nothing to the love of Christ. (The Rule of Benedict)1 The true peacemakers are those who pr

the peace of mind and body for love of our Lord Jesus Christ. (St. Francis of Assisi)2

Pope Pius XI universally instituted The Feast of Christ the King in 1925 in his encyclical Quas Primas.

Pius connected the denial of Christ as king to the rise of secularism. At the time of Quas Primas, seculawas on the rise, and many Christians, even Catholics, were doubting Christ's authority, as well as the Chur

and even doubting Christ's existence. Pius XI, and the rest of the Christian world, witnessed the rise of dtorships in Europe, and saw Catholics being taken in by these earthly leaders. Just as the Feast of CoChristi was instituted when devotion to the Eucharist was at a low point, the Feast of Christ the King wa

stituted during a time when respect for Christ and the Church was waning, when the feast was most needefact, it is still needed today, as these problems have not vanished, but instead have worsened. Pius hopeinstitution of the feast would have various effects. They were:

    1. That nations would see that the Church has the right to freedom, and immunity from the state (Quasmas, 32).

    2. That leaders and nations would see that they are bound to give respect to Christ (Quas Primas, 31).3. That the faithful would gain strength and courage from the celebration of the feast, as we are remi

that Christ must reign in our hearts, minds, wills, and bodies (Quas Primas, 33).

Christ the King Sunday used to be celebrated on the last Sunday of October, but since the calendar reform1969, the feast falls on the last Sunday of Ordinary Time, which is the Sunday before Advent. It is fitting

the feast celebrating Christ's kingship is observed right before Advent, when we liturgically wait for the pised Messiah (King).

The Beatitudes: Blessed are the MeekThe Beatitudes are a collection of promises recorded in the book of Matthew. They present

seven different attitudes of the heart that come with a promise of blessing. Jesus spoke thesepromises in His Sermon on the Mount, to a multitude of followers who needed more than just

physical healing and deliverance. Jesus was giving them an opportunity to seek an intimaterelationship with God through a right heart.

Each beatitude, which simply means supreme blessedness, begins with the phrase blessedare. These words imply that whoever participates in that right heart attitude will benefit from

being in a perpetual state of receiving God's favor. It was this continual blessing that Jesus knew was going to fulfill theof His followers. The third beatitude is for those who are meek. Jesus said, Blessed are the meek, for they shall inhe

earth.&rdquo (5:5)Jesus was not speaking of something that He did not model Himself. In fact, He was the perfect example of true mee

and gentleness. While He often spoke harsh and direct words to the Pharisees, He understood that their hearts were clo

the truth and refused to accept it. But to those whose hearts were open, He spoke with tender words of hope and life. Andto the receptive, He still had the incredible ability to speak the hard truth while considering the fragile state of those to He ministered. This kind of heart attitude is available to all who desire to learn from His example.

When interacting with other people, those who treat others with kindness are more likely to win their hearts. In so they will open the door to be able to minister to them on a very personal level, even extending to them an invitation to aJesus Christ as their Savior. The souls of those who choose to follow Christ are very precious to God, and the reward of

who help win them to Christ is very great. While the reward should not be the motivator, it still is a promise of God.Meekness is a heart attitude that draws the attention of God, and ushers in

His blessings. By making a habit of considering others before themselves, believers can be effective witnesses for Jesus Christ. As a result, they willexperience and receive everything that cannot be bought: long-term friend-

ships, reconciliation of broken relationships, salvation of loved ones, andmore. Written by Amy Miller. Retrieved from http://www.sharefaith.com
