BUSINESS CHALLENGEIn to da ys ITw orld, efficient monitoring , 24x365 uptime, a nd o ptimized performance are
critical for success. As compa nies a im to use a va riety o f technolog ies to mee t the ir need s,
the co mplexity o f their systems increa ses. They nee d a cost-effective, comm on

BMC SOFTWARE SOLUTIONPATROL for iSeries from B MC So ftwa re auto mat es repet itive monitoring ta sks to red uce
the burden on system administrators, increase management efficiency, and maximize
a va ilab ility in iSeries-AS/400 environme nts .
PATROL mon itors critica l aspe cts o f iSeries a nd AS/400 from a single co nsole, ensuring
consistent ma nag eme nt a cross the d iverse platforms in your orga nization (iSeries, Unix,Microsoft Windows, etc.).
PROA CTIVE MO N ITORIN GPATROL for iSeries pro vide s an e asy -to -use g rap hic view o f all mo nitored syste ms. Rea l-

Alarm values and a ctions enab le you to easily de tect and react to p roblems or events of
interest on yo ur systems. These sett ing s ca n b e co nfig ured either g loba lly or individually
for a ll monitored ob jects. PATROL maintains a comp rehensive history of t hese ob ject s,

> System Monitor overall system-wide metrics, including
total and interactive CPU utilization, average interactive
response t ime, a nd transaction rate.
> Active jobs Monitor reso urce usag e (CPU, I/O, e tc.) and
sta tus informat ion fo r individua l job s o f interest, or g roups
of jobs. You ca n select job s for monitoring using a
comb inat ion o f att ribute s including na me, user, g roup
profile, subsystem, status, and type. Alarms and recoveryactions can be set w hen too many job s exceed a C PU
threshold or a job transitions to an unwante d sta te.
Reports show Top 10 CP U Usag e o r job s mat ching a user-
specified status.
> Message queues Trap, view, a nd t a ke act ion (such as
ema il notificat ion, pa g er, et c.) for messag es of interest
arriving on QSYSOPR or other specified message queues.
Reply features provide manual or automatic answering of
inquiry messages arriving on the queue.
> History Log (QHST) Detect and react to messages sent
to the History Log which match user-specified selection
criteria. Out-of-the-box tracking of a bno rmally end ed job s
and system value chang es is provided .
> Network Stat us (NETSTAT) Monito r status a nd t raffic
information for each interface, and status for each route.
Overall counts a nd lists of co nnections are a vailab le, as

> Integrated File System (IFS) Monito r count and size
information for user-specified directories, sub-directories,
and objects located in the IFS. Scan directories for large
objects.
> Libraries Monitor individua l libraries t o track and react to
size changes or request reports that show current size and
