The Louise H. Batz Patient Safety Foundation was founded in Mayof 2009, ten days after Louise Batz lost her life to a preventablemedical error. Since that day, we have gone on a life-changingjourney from tragedy to hope! Our mission is to help families andpatients to truly become a part of their healthcare team andreduce the number of preventable medical errors. Over the past 11years, The Louise H. Batz Patient Safety Foundation has raisedover $2.5 million for patient safety, published 10 unique “BatzGuides for Bedside Advocacy”, developed our Batz Patient GuideApps, established the Batz Foundation Europe in Amsterdam, andshared Louise’s story across the United States, Canada, Europeand South America.

Each year in the US, roughly 200,000 people die and another 2 million fall victims topreventable medical errors during their stay in the hospital. Preventable medical errors arethe third leading cause of death in the United States, and they cost the healthcare systembillions of dollars each year.

As we recognize World Patient Safety Day this year, we will continue to support ourhealthcare workers, make patients and families feel educated and empowered, andencourage all of us to work together as a team so that we can improve patient safety.During this COVID-19 pandemic, our work providing people and organizations withguidance and support is now more important than ever.
