The Burleigh® Advantage in MicromanipulationOnly Piezoelectric Technology offers the solid-state stability and smoothness in complete and easy-to-use products for cellular micromanipulation. When controlled by Burleigh® drive electronics and ergonomic controls, extremely precise, fast, solid and stable positioning is easily achieved. Total control means your fingertip commands are instantly and precisely converted to smooth and predictable pipette motion without drift, unlike the unpredictable motion of hydraulics or stepper motors.

Easy Pipette Exchange with Adjustable Home and Work Positions Quick and simple pipette exchange is accomplished using the two rotary pivot stages each with adjustable set stops, consisting of a brass block, a locking ring, two set screws and a pin stop.

By loosening the set screws, you can rotate the locking ring until the pin rests against the brass block. Tightening the set screws with the pin in this position establishes your precise and repeatable Home position. Locking in Home and Work positions promises ideal and consistent approach angles at all times. When working space or distance is critical on upright or inverted microscopes, this standard feature is a must for easy set-up.

Electrical Noise PreventionThe Burleigh® PCS-5000 linear low-noise electronics and cables are fully shielded and carefully grounded to ensure that electrical interference during recordings is negligible.

Burleigh® Piezoelectric TechnologyThe heart of the system is the Piezo Flexure Assembly which is integrated into the linear stage. The aluminum stage utilizes cross roller bearings and provides manual coarse control through a 32 thread-per-inch leadscrew with a range of 25mm. Fine control is provided through the Piezo flexure with optional ranges of 150 or 300 micrometers and a resolution of <60 nanometers. The solid-state nature of Piezo actuators produce virtually zero heat while ensuring consistently smooth, predictable motion, free from backlash and drift.

Wide Range of Accessories Available for Additional Productivity The PCS-5000 is compatible with a wide range of accessories, providing maximum flexibility and easy customization.

Accessories include:Steep/Shallow Headstage Adapter (Fig. 1)

Allows orientation of the headstage and pipette holder at very steep or shallow angles and simplifies pipette exchange even in the tightest spaces. Symmetrical design works on the left and right side of the microscope.

Can be used to mount to a magnetic surface. This allows quick attachment and detachment of the micromanipulator for more versatile positioning on a magnetic surface.

Expand your OptionsThe Burleigh® PCS-5000 Micromanipulators include a PCS-PS60 Power Supply, a PCS-503 Axis Control Unit and a PCS-520 Micromanipulator Assembly. The PCS-PS60 Power Supply provides a regulated, ultra-low noise, constant 60 volt output for the Axis Control Unit. Easily share a single Power Supply between two PCS-5000 micromanipulators/ACU systems to minimize cost and space consumption when multiple manipulators are required on the same microscope.

Eliminate Drift WorriesPiezo actuators are resistant to internal thermal drift. When external thermal changes are considered, a Burleigh® system contributes the same or less thermal position drift than other components such as the microscope, mounting structure and headstage. No other micromanipulator has inherently lower drift than a Burleigh® micromanipulator.
