Pastor's Corner
Dear SVDP Parishioners,
The Gospel of last Sunday raised a very interesting question
regarding giving to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and givingto God what belongs to God. Many religious groups andchurches take these responsibilities more dutiful than weCatholics. Some even promote tithing or giving a percentage oftheir income to provide support for their Church activities andupkeep. Catholics have always relied on volume to provide forthe upkeep of the Church. In recent times, with the decline inChurch attendance, we have seen many parishes havingdifficulty surviving.
So they have introduced a new way to get the faithful to look at“Plan Giving” under the heading of “STEWARDSHIP.” The giftto God is the acknowledgement of our Time, our Talent, andour Treasure. Those parishes that have adopted thisparticipation have seen a significant participation within theircongregations.
The arrival of Covid 19 has brought an awareness of our ownsituation. The closing of church gatherings means that we aremore reliant on the generosity of the few than the many. Wemay ask the question “WHAT DOES GIVING TO GOD" mean?We have no doubt what giving to CAESAR means.

Becoming a member of a parish community is a very important aspectof our Catholic life. It is in the parish setting where we receive the
Body and Blood of Christ, listen to the Word of God proclaimed, findforgiveness of our sins in Reconciliation, communal support, and waysto give life to our faith. The parish is a living, breathing entity because
in it God interacts with His people.
