ENDOWMENT NEWS
An Endowment Moment…
“Leaving a Legacy”
1 Leaving a Legacy…Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church has a rich
heritage. The Legacy we share was handed to us by The Rev. William
Passavant. Our roots go back to a small railroad paint shop near the Ohio
River. Rev. Passavant had a vision for what the church could be. In a like
manner, Jim Baldwin, Paul Baldwin, Clarence and Ann Turner, Juanita
Bonzo, Lou Emerick, Phyllis Grant, Elmer Enigson, Bob and Lavada Cleis,
Bob White and Ted Wilson shared that vision by making provision in their
estates for Grace Church. They helped perpetuate our heritage. The
Legacy each of us can share is to provide for a portion of our estates for
the future of our congregation. What we do today can determine what the
church will be able to do in the years to come.
Imagine if the current endowment fund of $1,100,000 were to be
$2,000,000! With a return of 5% ($100,000) the Church’s utilities and
other fixed expenses would be paid with income from the endowment.
Current offerings would be used for the ongoing ministry, for community
outreach, youth programs and activities for seniors.
Those of us today can leave a Legacy for the generations to come
and create a strong viable congregation that certainly will be needed to
face the challenges that lie ahead.

POETRY CORNER
“Throwing Stones”
Sometimes we throw the stones of hate To those who come to pray
And with condemning bitter words We drive them far away.
If you can say you have no sin, Pick up that stone and throw. But you will stumble over it No matter where you go.
Instead of a stone within your fist, Reach out with an open hand.
Embrace the one that you condemned And say you understand.
Our church is built upon a rock But it can crumble too
Our Savior wiped your sins away And now it’s up to you.
_-Dolores Fruth
BACK TO SCHOOL HUMOR?
Early one morning, a mother went in to wake up her son.
'Wake up, son. It's time to go to school' 'But why, Mom? I don't want to go.'
'Give me two reasons why you don't want to go.' 'Well, the kids hate me for one, and the teachers hate me, too!'
'Oh, that's no reason not to go to school. Come on now and get ready.' 'Give me two reasons why I should go to school.'

Could you use a rest?
The summer months have flown by! The kids are back to school, the temperatures are getting cooler, and the days are getting shorter. It seems that no matter what time of year it is our schedules are always so busy. We went from the summer schedule of vacations, picnics, and outdoor activities to our school year activities that include homework, performing our roles in organizations that we belong, working, and entertainment. We are all so busy, busy, busy all the time. Where do God, worship, and our church community fit into our schedule? We cry out, “We don’t have enough time!”
God has the answer for all of us busy people. I have to admit it was an eye opener for me the first time someone told me that God has given us the gift of rest. God set an example by creating the world in six days and resting on the seventh. God also made it one of the Ten Commandments, “Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy.” We were created to work and to serve, but we were also created to rest and spend time in God’s presence, even God the creator of the universe took time to rest and reflect, surely we can too.
Let us hear that command from God, giving us permission to schedule rest and worship in our busy weeks.
