Why Do Church Revitalization? (Adapted from an article by the Kansas Nebraska Convention ReFocus Ministry)

Change is tough—tough to lead and tough to live through. It is difficult, emotionally draining, fear-

building, and usually results in some sort of loss. What’s more, thriving in a climate of rapid-fire

change is even more demanding. Unlike the mantra of our present government, we need change,

but ―spiritual change‖ is the ONLY cure for our generation.

Church revitalization is a quest to discover NOW what is God’s unique calling for your church

and the surrounding community in which you now serve. The Revitalization process is an

opportunity to come together, hear from the Spirit of God, and then move in obedience to His

purpose and calling.

Revitalization is a spiritual discovery process that promotes spiritual renewal and church health in

local churches. As churches seek to link ministries and work together for a common good, within

the sovereign purposes and plan of God, they experience the growth of the church and advance

the kingdom of God. This leads to renewed vigor and passion to attempt new avenues for

penetrating the community and to impact communities that do not have an evangelical work. It

encourages prospective/new leaders, incites new church plants, and begins externally-focused

ministries.

Man cannot renew the church. Renewal is not something we

can manufacture; regardless of how good his tools,

resources, or processes. God brings renewal to His church.

It is the by-product of man’s obedience to the Word and

calling of God.

There are three distinct steps to the revitalization process.

First is evaluation – ―How did we get here?‖ Second is

envisioning – ―Where do we believe God wants us to go?‖ And third is implementation – ―How

do we get there?‖

Revitalization is a community of believers who are joyfully working together to accomplish the

plans and design of God. Partnering different ministries allows for unified manpower, expanded

creativity, economy of resources, and multiplied effectiveness. It helps answer some valuable

questions for healthy church growth:

1. What is our church’s purpose?

2. What do we do well?

3. Who is our Target Audience?

4. What do we Value most?

5. Where does God want us to go?

“The tragedy of modern man is not

that he knows less and less about

the meaning of his own life, but

that it bothers him less and less”

--- Vaclav Havel

Excerpted from the Letter of Randy Newberry, Executive Director of the Galveston Baptist Association in response to the gift from the

TEBA Annual Celebration of more than $2200 to assist their member churches…

Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for your demonstration of care and encouragement to the Galveston Baptist Association. It is very impressive to me that you would even think of taking an offering to assist our churches in the rebuilding and restarting after hurricane Ike. Many of our churches are still struggling financially, they are hurting emotionally but they are strong spiritually.

Last night at the evening session, we sang that song that says, “The anchor holds in spite of the storm.” I could really feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in the room because the people were singing from their experience that he does hold us through the storm. Your gift to the Association is a real encouragement that others still care. Please express our thanks and sincere gratitude to the churches of the Tryon Evergreen Baptist Association for this gift.

Dr. Mark Estep welcomes

the churches to the first

Annual Associational

Celebration hosted at

Spring Baptist Church. Pastor Doug Long receives a

Bible from Tracy Jaggers of

the TEBA for bringing the

most church members to the

recent Equip 2009 Conference.

Dr. Jay and Dianna Gross

congratulate Lewis and

Mary Fitts on his retirement

from serving as the Financial

Administrator of the TEBA.

Dr. Steve Brazzel and

other pastors shared

how God was at work

in the churches and

ministries of the TEBA.

The family of Hugh and

Bobbie Durham join

together in celebrating

his retirement as the

Associate of Church

Growth and New Work

for the TEBA.

Dr. John Kramp of Lifeway

Christian Resources was the

keynote speaker.

Dr. Randy Newberry

accepts a check from

Dr. Roger Yancey on

behalf of the Galveston

Baptist Association

from the TEBA.
