About The Types of
Catholic Wedding Ceremonies
There are two forms of Catholic wedding
Liturgy:
The Wedding or Nuptial Mass:
Often referred to as a “full Mass,” it is the
celebration of the Mass with the wedding
ceremony inserted in the middle of the
Liturgy. It presupposes both parties are
practicing Catholics and receiving Holy
Communion after a proper spiritual prepa-
ration.
The Wedding Ceremony:
This has all the elements of the above
(music, readings, vows, etc.) but without
the celebration of Mass. This form is suit-
able for general congregations and is of
shorter duration than the above.
PLEASE NOTE: Nuptial Masses are
NOT celebrated on Sundays. The ONLY
exception is when a visiting priest is
invited by the family, approved by the
Pastor and is willing to offer a Nuptial
Mass on Sunday.

In 2019, SVDPLI provided help for more than 145,000 people, including financial aid,
material assistance and spiritual comfort. We have already seen a 144% increase in
requests for assistance as many Long Islanders seek support to recover from the
current crisis.
If you are in a position to give financially, any amount would be greatly appreciated.
Checks should be written to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and may be sent to our
parish office at St. Matthew or given to Mike Brennan or Helen Campa.

DAILY OFFERING PRAYER -
God, our Father, I offer You my day. I offer You my prayers, thoughts, words, actions, joys, and suf-
ferings in union with Your Son Jesus' Heart, Who continues to offer Himself in the Eucharist for the
salvation of the world. May the Holy Spirit, who guided Jesus, be my guide and my strength today so
that I may witness to Your love.
SEPTEMBER: Respect for the Planet’s Resources
That the planet’s resources will not be plundered, but shared in a just and respectful manner.
The Apostleship of Prayer is a worldwide association of Catholics and
other Christians who strive to make their ordinary, everyday lives apostolic-
ally effective. Through the Apostleship of Prayer, the Pope gives his monthly
prayer intentions to the entire Church. For this reason, the Apostleship came
to be known as "the Pope's own prayer group."

Labor Day gave us an opportunity to take stock of the ways
workers are honored and respected. As Pope Francis pointed
out, "Work is fundamental to the dignity of a person. . . It gives
one the ability to maintain oneself, one's family, to contribute to
the growth of one's own nation."
For many people today, especially the poor, or those who may
be unemployed or underemployed, the struggle to support
their families is a daily battle. Please consider supporting the
Catholic Ministries Appeal which supports the programs and
services that assist families and individuals struggling in our
communities.
PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A GIFT TO THE 2020 Catholic
Ministries Appeal! Every Gift Makes a Difference in the Lives of Others.

September 20 - Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
On September 27, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Vincent de Paul, who
knew that “God had sent him to bring good news to the poor.”
Together with your gifts, the members of the Society of St. Vincent
de Paul continue his work and mission in our parish.
Hello Everyone,
Since there is really nothing worth writing about due to this dreaded
virus, I am inserting something that was a favorite of Deacon McQuade and
was read at his Memorial Mass.
THE DASH -
I read of a man who stood to speak at a funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning to the end.
He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke of the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time they spent alive on earth
And now, only those who loved them know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own, the carsB the houseB the cash.
What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our DASH.
So think about this long and hard; are there things you’d like to change?
For you never know how much time is left that still can be rearranged.
To be less quick to anger and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives like we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile....
Remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.
So when your eulogy is being read, with your life’s actions to rehash...
would you be proud of the things they say about how you lived your Dash??
- Linda Ellis
Remember to pray for everyone, especially our first responders.
The world is in turmoil and Satan is doing a happy dance. Put it in the hands of Mary, our coun-
try’s best hope.

My Dear Parishioners,
On August 27th, I will be having a knee
replacement. It is my 2nd knee surgery on this knee.
(After the Covid test, I have to quarantine for a few days
prior to hospital admission.) Having had three surgeries on my other knee, this is my 5th
knee surgery and hopefully the final one. It is a good thing that I only have two knees!!.
I have missed so many of you these last months during the pandemic and have been
praying for you and your families. With God’s help, we will all be back soon.
Please pray for me and know that you will be, as always, in my heart and prayers.

Focus on Religious Freedom

The Constitution of the United States
This “Miracle in Philadelphia” Was Grounded
in America’s Judeo-Christian Values
"The happy union of these states is a wonder; their Constitution is a miracle; their example the
hope of liberty throughout the world. Woe to the ambition that would meditate the destruction of
either!" - James Madison, 1787
Judeo-Christian values are foundational to America, beginning with the Declaration of Independ-
ence "endowed by their Creator" to the principles found in the U.S. Constitution honoring God-
given Life and Liberty.”
"Our Founding Fathers separated church from state, but they wisely did not separate God from
state. They acknowledged God as the source of our rights and were careful to place Biblical
morality directly into our founding documents and laws, and into our values and culture, precisely
to help prevent a future totalitarian or tyrannical rule in America," wrote author Dr. Ronald R.
Cherry

It is alarming that many today have turned a blind eye to the required connection between God
and Liberty and forgotten the warning from John Adams and Thomas Jefferson that Liberty cannot
survive among men without its Divine connection.
"Remember that a Constitution which gives to the people so much freedom and entrusts them with
so much power, rests for its permanency, on their knowledge and virtue," wrote Arthur Stansbury,
in 1828. "An ignorant people are easily betrayed, and a wicked people can never be ruled by the
mild influence of their own laws. If you would be free ... cultivate knowledge - flee from vice. The
virtuous citizen is the true noble."

Happening Now: Freedom of Religion & Freedom of Speech Denied
Florida State University's former head of the student senate is suing the school, charging his reli-
gious freedom was violated when he was removed from his position following comments he made
in a private chat forum for Catholic students. He had commented that policy positions of some
protesting groups that embrace disrupting the nuclear family and are hostile to the Gospel, contra-
dict the teachings of the Catholic Church.
"While FSU students claim they're creating a 'safe space', they've tried to cancel Jack's freedoms
and discriminate against him because they don't like his beliefs in direct violation of the First
Amendment," said Alliance Defending Freedom.(3) "Florida State should be fostering real diversity
of thought and not punishing individuals based on religious convictions or political beliefs."(4)

who are feeling overwhelmed due to substance use, mental illness and/or
other life stressors. The program features a mobile response team of
licensed professional experts who will come to your community and
conduct an assessment, develop a safety plan, and if necessary,
recommend outpatient services or a higher level of care. DASH also features a crisis hotline that
provides telephone triage, clinical assessments and therapeutic support.
This unique facility, run by Family Service League, is a beacon of hope for Suffolk County children
and adults who are struggling to cope and serves as an alternative to an emergency room. The
center at 90 Adams Ave, Hauppauge, is open 24/7 (although during Covid it is advised to call
first.) FSL’s DASH Crisis Stabilization Center & Hotline open 24-Hours, 7-days a week!
