St. John’s Baskets & Bucks Bingo St. John’s School will be holding a Baskets & Bucks Bingo (Longaberger® Baskets and CASH/gift cards!) on October 9, 2015 in the Monsignor Harris Center.

We are hoping that most of the baskets/prizes will be sponsored by local businesses and the friends and families of St. John’s School and Parish. If you are willing to sponsor a basket (fund the cost at a discounted price, which ranges from $20 to $150) or donate a door prize, please contact Angela at [email protected] or Phyllis at 301- 373-5871 .

Special Olympics Needs Your Help! Volunteers are needed to help run the local Special Olympics Soccer Tournament on October 11th at Chaptico Park. Adults and teenage youth are needed. Please contact Mark Fondren 301-873-8405 or [email protected] by October 1st to register. Students may apply the hours they volunteer toward their Community Service hour requirements.

Did you ever think you could change someone's life for the better? Each year the parishes of St. Mary’s County have a unique opportunity to reach out to the community and spread the Good News of Christ and our Catholic Faith at the County Fair. This is an experience of a lifetime! Would you prayerfully consider volunteering for a 2-hour shift at the Catholic Evangelization booth? You don't need to be a television evangelist to inspire others to know Christ. You can make a difference. If interested, please see the following link to sign up: http://www.saintaloysiuschurch.org/st-marys- county-fair-2015/

St. John’s Parish Mission. Plan on attending an exciting parish mission right here at St. John’s, Monday-Wednesday, October 5-7th. John Pridmore, ex-gangster and international bestselling Author of book and Lighthouse Catholic Media CD ‘From Gangland to Promised Land,’ will be speaking on God’s Love (Mon), God’s Mercy (Tues) and God’s Healing (Wed). John Pridmore has appeared several times on EWTN, as well as on RTE’s Nationwide, BBC, ITV, TV3, UTV, and various radio shows. John has worked with people such as Mother Teresa and was a friend of Pope St. John Paul II. Millions have heard John Pridmore speak. Please help us spread the word!

Give a weekend to God! Ignation Weekend Retreat—”The

Way”. The men of the Parishes of Southern Maryland go on retreat each year at Loyola on the Potomac—A Jesuit Retreat House in Faulkner, MD. This retreat is conducted in an atmosphere of prayful silences and based on the essence of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. It is open to anyone who desires to grow in their relationship with God through prayer. The retreat includes generous amounts of time for prayer and personal reflection. The retreat begins Friday evening and concludes with lunch on Sunday.

For more information or to make a reservation contact Dan Ichniowski at [email protected] or 301-994-1310. The fee is $235 ($185 for first time retreatants and/or young adults up to 30). You can also make reservation online at www.loyolaonthepotomac.com. “Come away and rest awhile”.

How is your Walk with Francis pledge going? Have you followed through? Jesus encourages us with the joy and beauty of humble service in the Gospel today when He teaches, “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” If you need help getting started, check out the opportunities featured in this bulletin or find more at WalkwithFrancis.org. With Pope Francis about to arrive in the United States, take this opportunity to challenge family, friends, and coworkers to take the pledge as well! Share your pledge and challenge others on social media using #WalkwithFrancis. The best way to welcome Pope Francis is to #WalkwithFrancis!

All men are welcome to join the St. John's Men's Group on Saturday mornings at 6:30am for light breakfast and fellowship followed by prayer and Sunday's Scripture review and then Holy Mass at 8:00am. Come find out why Fr. Ray is 'soaring with the Eagles' on Saturday morning and see how the Holy Spirit is working in our parish's husbands and fathers. For more information, please contact Dan Seep at [email protected] or (757) 291-0262.
