Vacation Bible School was enjoyed by all…. The students from the different par-ishes, the teachers, and other helpers had a wonderful time of sharing and working to-gether. It was fun and learning experience
for James, our seminarian.
All learned that they were created by God. Incredible bible-learning experiences through see-ing, learning, tasting and touch students were able
to learn how faith shapes their lives.

On the weekend of August 12th –13th, we will schedule a second collection which will go to assist the family of Stephen Kernan. Steve has been a very faithful Altar Server for many years here at Church. He usually servers the 11:30 Sunday Mass with his sister Emily and his parents Mary Lou who is a Eucharistic Minister and his father Patrick who is a Lector. Stephen was in a very serious automobile accident a few weeks ago on his way home. Expenses for his recovery I am sure will be very high and therefore I thought we could help with a free-will collection at all of the Masses. Our parish is always kind and generous with those in need of help and assistance. His family or parents were not aware of my idea! A word of THANKS and praise to our Gardeners who have worked so diligently on Saturdays to beautify our courtyard next to the church. I am most grateful to them for assisting God in making the courtyard so in-viting and beautiful. The Vacation Bible School was once again extremely enjoyable and successful serving fifty-nine of our youngsters. It was because of the hard work of the Director’s of Faith Formation in the parishes of Lee Center and Rome. They along with their good staff insured that the kids learned about God’s love for them and how they could love God each day. A thousand thank you’s to all! A very special THANK YOU to Kate and Scott Connor and their children Cooper, Malcolm, Zoe, Annabel and Daniel for providing the marvelous scenery and sets for the Vacation Bible School. Their pa-tience , artistic talents and creativity truly set the tone for the week. I am most grateful! This is the last full week for our seminari-an James Buttner as he returns to school. I will put his address in a future bulletin.
Dear Padre, Is it a sin to purchase goods and services from a business that financially supports morally objectionable behavior? This question requires us to back up a bit and ask two more fundamental questions: “What is sin?” and “To what degree am I allowed to participate in an objective evil?” A moral action has three necessary components: the object, the intention, and the circumstances. These are the what, the why, and the context. For something to be sinful, all three of these components must be taken into account. I must know what I am doing is sinful, I must fully intend it, and there must not be any mitigating circumstances that lessen my degree of culpability. Sin, in other words, requires knowledge that the action is sinful, the will to perform it, and circum-stances that do not unduly inhibit my knowledge and freedom to act. To purchase goods and services from a business that supports morally objectionable behavior is sinful if we are conscious that the business supports such behavior, if we intend to purchase the product as a way of showing our support of this morally objectionable behavior, and if there are no mitigating circumstances inhibiting our knowledge and freedom of action. As a general rule, we should avoid purchasing goods and services from such businesses. We should not, for example, buy products from companies that fund grave objective moral evils such as embryonic stem research, contraception, abortion, assisted suicide, capital punishment, or euthanasia. Specific cases must also take into account the distinction between grave and less serious matters. Fr. Dennis J. Billy, CSsR

ST. PETER’S CHURCH HISTORY
(continued) At the direction of his Bishop he supervised the construction of the new Parish, St. Paul’s Church and Rectory on Bedford Street in Rome, and cele-brated the Mass of Dedication on October 26, 1958. He also purchased adjoining property to the new church which was reserved for what is now Rome Catholic High School. Once before he has been called to similar duty when he completed the build-ing of Holy Cross Church and Rectory in DeWitt while serving as pastor of Our lady of Solace in Sy-racuse. In both instances he shouldered the extra responsibility a new church and rectory along with the task of directing aaa large parish of his own. Between 1957 and 1960 the exterior of St. Peter’s Church was cleaned and repaired, and the interior was redecorated by the D’Ambrosio Studios of New York. (to be continued)
Pope Francis Speaks to our hearts!! The Church Is a Living Body
The church is not a welfare, cultural, or political association but a living body that walks and acts in history. And this body has a head, Jesus, who guides, feeds and supports it. This is a point that I would like to emphasize: if one separates the head from the rest of the body, the whole person cannot survive. It is like this in the Church: we must stay ever more deeply connected with Jesus. But not only that; just as it is important that life-blood flow through the body in order to live, so must we allow Jesus to work in us, let his Word guide us, his presence in the Eucharist feed us and give us life, his love strengthen our love for our neighbor. and this forever!
