DEAR STUDENT Congratulations on your acceptance to Rollins and welcome to our international student community. The Office of International Student & Scholar Services (OISSS) is available to assist you during your initial transition and in the years to come.

The office acts as a resource center for students, faculty and administrators by encouraging and supporting the enrollment of international students and scholars. The college is committed to international education and to working with the community to achieve the goal of internationalizing Rollins.

Enclosed is your Form I-20 or Form DS-2019, needed to acquire a student visa which will permit you to enter the United States as a Rollins student. Please read the form carefully and notify the office immediately if anything is inaccurate.

This Passport to Rollins has been prepared to assist you in planning your arrival. Please be sure to read the following pages for important information related to obtaining your student visa and preparing for college life at Rollins.

International Student Orientation is a mandatory program for all international students. Dates vary by program of study and are noted on page 13. Details of the program will be emailed to you in the coming months.

REVIEW YOUR FORM I-20 OR DS-2019• Make sure all information printed is correct.• Read printed instructions on the back of form and sign. • Note that you have been given a reporting date, which is based on your program

start date. This is the date by which you should enter the U.S. with your I-20 or DS-2019.

• You are allowed to enter up to 30 days prior to this date.

CHOOSING YOUR ARRIVAL DATECRUMMER EDBA STUDENTS should arrive in Orlando by Thursday, August 15 in order to check-in and attend International Student Orientation.

CRUMMER EAMBA & EMBA STUDENTS starting Fall 2019, should arrive in Orlando by Thursday, August 29 in order to check-in and attend International Student Orientation. Spring 2020 students should arrive by Sunday, January 5, 2020.

COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS AND HOLT SCHOOL STUDENTS starting Fall 2019, should arrive in Orlando by Sunday, August 18 in order to check-in and attend International Student Orientation. Spring 2020 students should arrive by Thursday, January 9, 2020.

• When purchasing your flight, please note that undergraduate residence halls are closed during winter and summer breaks.

• Please notify us by email of your planned arrival date and time.

• If arriving before check-in date, you will need to make hotel arrangements.

WHAT TO BRING: • Clothes for layering, as it is very hot in summer and chilly in winter

• Raincoats, umbrellas, rain boots

• We recommend ordering bed linens from rhl.org/rol or purchasing them when you arrive. Please note that the residence hall beds require extra-long sized sheets.

TAX OBLIGATIONSAs an international student, you will be required by law to file tax forms annually. If you are receiving a scholarship, part of it may be taxable. Taxable scholarships may require you to pay the tax to Rollins during each semester. You will need to work with our Tax Compliance office during orientation to determine your obligations.

HEALTH INSURANCEPlease note that ALL international students (F-1, J-1, and J-2) are required to enroll in the College’s student health insurance program.

The College’s international student health insurance program is managed by Insurance for Students. Students will be automatically enrolled in the College’s insurance plan, and their health insurance premium will be charged to their student account. Information regarding the College’s health insurance plan can be at insuranceforstudents.com/rollins.

• A student who already has adequate health insurance coverage may apply for a waiver of the College health insurance by submitting an Alternate Insurance Compliance form. Waivers are not guaranteed to be approved. The policy must meet our requirements as listed on the waiver form.

• The deadline for completing this form is August 16, 2019 for Fall 2019 students and December 20, 2019 for Spring 2020 students.

• We advise all students to get medical, dental, and vision checkups before departing for the U.S.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

• Your passport, Form I-20 or DS-2019, and luggage will be inspected

• U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer will stamp your passport and return it to you.

• You will be given information on printing your Arrival / Departure Record (Form I-94). It is important to check this record every time you enter the U.S. - cbp.gov/i94

Your passport will be stamped with your date of entry and entry

classification of F-1 or J-1 and D/S meaning duration of status.

Make sure that the passport is stamped correctly before leaving

the officer’s desk.

As a new international student at Rollins, you represent a unique and treasured addition to our student community. In order to provide you with the tools and information necessary for a successful transition to the U.S., Florida, and Rollins, we provide this special orientation, which focuses on the issues that are particular to international students. The program is designed in addition to the College’s orientation programs for all new students.

PRIOR TO ARRIVAL AT ROLLINS:Check passport expiration date. It should be valid for six months after entering the U.S.

Obtain Form I-20 or DS-2019 and apply for F-1 or J-1 student visa.

Rollins College address is 1000 Holt Avenue, Winter Park, FL 32789. Be sure to have that to provide to a driver. Directions are available at rollins.edu/map.

Make and confirm housing arrangements. If living on campus, be sure you receive your housing assignment from the Office of Residential Life & Explorations or Graduate Housing.

Make arrangements for tuition payment—DO NOT CARRY a lot of cash; bring $300-500 in U.S. dollars for immediate use before opening a bank account. You may wish to have lower denomination bills and coins for taxi service.

Make copies of immigration documents; leave one set of copies with your family and pack a set of copies in your luggage.

Pack your passport, original Form I-20 or DS-2019, and a set of financial documents in your carry-on luggage, not in your checked luggage.

UPON ARRIVAL AT ROLLINS:Students living on campus should report to Rice Family Pavilion to check in and receive keys.

If arriving after business hours, please go to Campus Safety to check in, and to receive keys and arrival information packet.

SETTLING INTO YOUR ROOM:

Buy necessities for residence hall room.

Open bank account with a local bank. Information on this procedure will be provided at Orientation.

Visit the Office of Student Account Services to check if payments for tuition, housing, insurance, and meal plans have been received or to make arrangements for payment.
