Built in 1912 as Tao Nan School, this building then housed the Asian Civilisations Museum and now the Peranakan Museum. There are Jubilee Walk markers at three entrances to this historical hill: at the National Museum (2a), Hill Street (2b) and Clemenceau Avenue (2c). Esplanade Park houses memorials such as the Cenotaph which marks the World Wars. Singapore’s first National Day Parade was held here in 1966. The oldest public building remaining, it housed Parliament before becoming an arts venue. The new Parliament House was opened in 1999 to hold a legislature that grew from 48 to 90.
