The Ministry of Education is pleased to welcome you to the third Edition of the Palestinian Science Festival. This annual happening has become a major event in the school life of our students and we are proud to be part of it alongside our partners the Consulate General of France in Jerusalem, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Al-Nayzak, the main Palestinian Universities of An-Najah National University, Al-Quds University, Birzeit University, Palestine Polytechnic University and the Qattan Centre for the Child in Gaza.

Le Ministère de l’Éducation est heureux de vous accueillir pour la troisième édition de la Fête de la Science en Palestine. Cette manifestation annuelle est devenue un événement majeur dans l’année scolaire de nos élèves et nous sommes fiers de prendre part à ce festival aux côtés de nos partenaires du Consulat Général de France à Jérusalem, l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour l’Education, la Science et la Culture (UNESCO), Al-Nayzak, les principales universités palestiniennes telles que l’Université An-Najah, l’Université Al-Quds, l’Université de Birzeit et la Palestine Polytechnic University à Hébron, ainsi que le Qattan Centre for the Child à Gaza.

THE THIRD PALESTINIAN SCIENCE FESTIVAL

SCIENCE FOR EVERYONE The Science Festival fulfills our desire to offer the young Palestinian generation an easy access to the world of science and to contribute to the fostering of an enlightened and inspired youth. During the days of the festival, students will discover, in a playful and interactive way, how science is all around us and can be applied to our daily lives.

LA SCIENCE POUR TOUSLa Fête de la Science répond à notre souhait de proposer à la jeune génération palestinienne un accès facile au monde de la science et de contribuer à l'éclosion d'une jeunesse éclairée et inspirée. Durant le festival, les élèves vont découvrir, de manière ludique et interactive, comment la science est partout autour de nous et peut se traduire dans notre vie quotidienne.

IN A FEW WORDSThe Science Festival will be held from the 5th to the 14th of November 2012 in different cities throughout Palestine, in the West Bank and Gaza Strip (Nablus, Abu Dis, Hebron, Birzeit and Gaza) in partnership with several universities. The activities program will offer workshops and scientific games, experiments demonstrated by Palestinian students and French organizations, interactive exhibitions, screenings of short movies and mini-shows.

EN QUELQUES MOTSLa Fête de la Science sera organisée dans différentes villes à travers la Palestine, en Cisjordanie et dans la bande de Gaza (Naplouse, Abu Dis, Hébron, Gaza et Birzeit) en partenariat avec des universités, du 5 au 14 Novembre 2012. Un programme d’activités proposera des ateliers et des jeux scientifiques, des expériences présentées par des étudiants palestiniens et des organisations françaises, des expositions interactives, des projections de courts-métrages, et des mini-spectacles.

ACTIVITIESPROPOSED BY THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

INTERACTIVESCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENTS

The activities proposed by the Ministry of Education are scientific experiments and innovation projects carefully designed to promote the idea of science in real life. This challenge to present the best, aims to spark the curiosity of the Palestinian youth in science, technology and innovation and to urge school students to convert what they learnt at school into tangible creative works. The general aim is to encourage students’ collaborative work and stimulate their analytical and critical thinking abilities.

This corner includes interactive scientific experiments in general science, physics, chemistry and biology, with three experiments at each site offered by school students, especially those who have achieved high results at the School Olympics. It will also include 16 experiments selected from science fairs implemented at the district level.

STUDENTINNOVATION FAIRThis exhibition presents 16 innovative scientific projects by school students, with four projects in each location. These projects achieved outstanding results at the Palestine Science and Technology Fair that was hosted by the Ministry of Education.

SOAP BUBBLESBY THE COLLECTIVE EBULLITIONS

In the morning, you will be greeted under a rain of giant soap bubbles floating in the air. Later on in the afternoon, with the help of presentations, workshops and short conferences you will learn all about the art of giant soap bubbles in a magical and extraordinary environment.

ACTIVITIES PROPOSED BY THE FRENCH INSTITUTE

HELLO, PLANET? – BY NICOLE BONTEMPS

Nowadays we communicate all over the world through the Internet and mobile phones. This workshop aims to present the central role played by electromagnetic waves in these means of communication as well as the principle of information coding.

EXHIBITION“EVERYTHING IS CHEMISTRY!”BY CENTRE SCIENCESIN FRENCH AND ARABIC

Come and discover a constantly changing world of chemistry which explores unexpected aspects of our daily life through 12 simple and playful experiments and 15 thematic posters. Press, shake and observe!

SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENTSBY THE FRENCH HIGH SCHOOL ROMAIN ROLLAND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF IVRY

Scientific workshops will be presented by students from the Science Académie program. They will show you simple and amazing experiments related to practical life as well as give you some scientific tricks!

CHALLENGE YOURSELF CORNER

This interactive corner aims to increase the visitors’ critical and creative thinking depending on the thinking games that are used in Al Nayzak’s different programs.

SCIENTIFIC CINEMA

A unique scientific movie will be displayed in an atmosphere of visual effects. The movie screening aims to capture the audience’s attention and increase their research and discussion about the presented scientific phenomena.

Scientific experiments in physicsCome and see : Illuminated Electronic Welcoming Board; Game Set Nerves in which the buzzer will sound and the red LEDs will be lit when the circuit is closed; Electronic Counter Gate Garage which counts the number of cars entering into a garage and subtracts the amount of cars exiting from it; Parking Infrared Sensor Car which stops when it is very close to a wall; Constructing a Simple Motor; Generated Static Electricity using Van de Graff generator; Magnetic Field Shape Lines from rectangular magnets.

ON MONDAY THE 5TH AND TUESDAY THE 6TH OF NOVEMBER IN NABLUS

Scientific experiments in biology and medical lab scienceBiodiversity Conservation using plant tissue culture techniques, modern evolution; Tree of Life Slideshow provided with living organisms photographs; Anatomical Models for different animals; Microbial Diversity as number of bacteria were cultured on different media, Antimicrobial Effect of Medicinal Plants demonstration on different types of bacteria, in addition to that there are several posters on biotechnological experiments using molecular techniques and bioinformatics analysis. In addition, there will be several Medical Tests to enable identifying human blood groups; Complete Blood Analysis; and First Aid Live Performances Show.

Scientific experiments in chemistryVolcano Simulation by water hydrolysis; Secret Ink Use; Moving Balls up and down as a result of the interaction of acid with sodium bicarbonate; Electrochemical Hydrolysis Demonstration to show redox reactions and products; Liquid density Show illustrates that liquid high density stay at bottom and low density stay at the top; Making Slime trials that will clarify a simple method for manufacturing polymers and ceramics as a result of the interaction of white glue or glue with Borax.

ACTIVITIES PROPOSED BY QATTAN CENTRE FOR THE CHILD1001 inventions exhibition Based on the “1001 inventions” book, we will create simulations of many inventions of the Golden Age of Muslim Civilization. The scientific and cultural achievements, from the 7th to the 17th centuries, will be introduced to visitors of Qattan Centre for the Child.

Palestinian inventions exhibitionYoung Palestinian inventors will get the chance to explain the specific features and advantages of their inventions to visitors and receive feedback. Visitors will also get the chance to try and perform experiments in an interactive environment.

FROM TUESDAY THE 6TH TO THURSDAY THE 8TH

OF NOVEMBER IN GAZA

Crazy Science showA fantastic method of teaching science concepts. This show will combine science, magic, bubbles, music and the arts.

Time tunnel Children can play, learn and touch through a handmade tunnel showing them past and present innovations and give them the chance to imagine what the future could hold.

Lab of young Inventors Children participate in many science activities which are designed to encourage them to think like scientists. This section is divided into roughly three zones, as follows:

• Physics zone: children will enjoy trying physics experiments, which some of them can try again at home.

• Chemistry zone: children will see and try some funny chemical interactions as well as watch a magic show.

• Biology zone: children can discuss some biological phenomena such as osmosis and photosynthesis which they have already learnt about in school or will learn about in the future.

ACTIVITIES PROPOSED BY PALESTINE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY

FROM WEDNESDAY THE 7TH TO THURSDAY THE 8TH

OF NOVEMBER IN HEBRON

Interactive Scientific experiments and demonstrations in chemistry, physics, mathematics, and electronicsAround 25 interactive scientific experiments and demonstrations, such as student innovations and graduation projects, in all disciplines will be demonstrated by well trained students.

PhysicsThe presentations will demonstrate some amazing aspects of physics and life.

ChemistryThe chemistry interactive experiments will show the role of oxygen as an oxidizing agent, coupling reactions, dye synthesis, the primary production of polymers as well as other fascinating chemical reactions.

ElectronicsHow do we open a garage door with a wireless system? How does a dimmer circuit control the light intensity of a lamp? How do capacitor circuits, digital counters or school bus alarms work? These experiments will try to answer these technical questions.

MathematicsThe mathematics department will play with numbers, through interactive games with decimals numbers or fraction circles as well as a device that measures the angles of elevation.

Hand BatteryPut the palms of your hands flat on two metal surfaces which are connected to the same button (pole) and notice the micro-ampmeter reading. Wash or wet your hands and try again. The human body conducts electricity. Current forms when your hands touch the different metals (galvanic principle). When your hands are moist, conductivity is much better.

FROM SUNDAY THE 11TH TO MONDAY THE 12TH

OF NOVEMBER IN BIRZEIT

ViscosityThe three tubes contain liquids with different viscosities. In each tube we placed identical steel marbles. Rotate the system gently, and observe the time of fall for each. Which liquid is more viscous?

Kinetic- Electromagnetic transfer of EnergyThe two coils can move freely and cut the magnetic field lines of strong magnets. They are connected to each other by flexible wires allowing the flow of current. One of them will vibrate and create current that is transferred to the other. This kind of vibration will create an AC current. That’s why the other coil, touched by magnetic field, will vibrate too. Because of the transfer of current from one to another respectively, the two coils will seem to move in harmony.

Chaotic pendulumLet the pendulum vibrate. You can notice that the amplitude is not the same, and the motion is not in the same plane.

Double cone and inclined plane A wooden triangular shape is placed on top of a wooden block to form an inclined track. The angle of inclination is changed through sliding the triangular track on top of the wooden block. If you place the double cone on the inclined track, it will “roll up”. The double cone is in fact descending, not ascending. Watch and try to understand why.

During your visit, you will discover the Science Museum where you will discover scientific experiments involving playing with electricity and attraction towards magnets. You will see your watch working faster in a strong electromagnetic field and your shadow colored for the first.

The mathematics Museum will astonish you with Fibonacci series and sequences. Sessa bin Zahir will exhaust you counting just as he exhausted the King of India before you.

In the counting corner, you will enjoy more combination and permutation quizzes and you will go through a journey of algorithms with the Tower of Hanoi.

FROM TUESDAY THE 13TH TO WEDNESDAY THE 14TH OF NOVEMBER IN ABU DIS

At the ecology stations, you will move across the steps for waste water purification and get to know many types of rocks and soil that surround you. You will also be introduced to the potential sources of renewable energy. You will go through the magic and chemistry areas and will make candies yourselves in the food processing corner. With life sciences, you will explore the wonders of the origin of live through the embryo’s life cycle and you will also learn how to preserve plant samples.

لديك مخروط ثنائي، ولديك مثلث خ�س��بي اأجوب، يرتكز �س��لعه الق�سير

على قطعة خ�س��بية اأخرى على �س��كل متوازي م�ستطيلات، حيث يمكنك

تغيير زاوية ميلان الم�سار ال�ساعد بتغيير الم�سافة بين نقطة ارتكاز المثلث مع

ال�سطح الاأفقي والقطعة الخ�سبية.

�س��ع المخروط عند اأ�س��فل الم�سار، حاول اأن يكون و�س��عه ب�سكل متوازن،

�ستلاحظ اأن المخروط ي�س��عد ال�سطح. ماذا يحدث؟ في الواقع اإن المخروط

لا يتحرك �سعوداً واإنما نزولا. كيف يحدث ذلك؟ حاول اأن تتحقق مما نقول؟

هل هناك علاقة بين قطر المخروط وزاوية الميل؟

كيف يوؤثر الميلان على �شرعة المخروط؟

الإن�سان كبطارية كهربائية �سع/ي كفيك على اللوحين المعدنيين، ولاحظ/ي التيار الذي

يجري في الاأميتر. ماذا يحدث؟

اإن اأحد اللوحين هو من النحا�ض والاآخر من الاألمنيوم. عند

لم�سهما تحدث تفاعلات كيميائية مختلفة بين �سطح الجلد

والمعدن، فجلد الاإن�سان عليه اإفرازات ملحية ودهنية على

�سكل محاليل. التفاعل بين اليد والنحا�ض يوؤدي اإلى نق�سان في

ال�سحنات الكهربائية الموجودة داخل النحا�ض، اأما التفاعل بين

اليد والاألمنيوم يوؤدي اإلى زيادة في ال�سحنات الكهربائية للاألمنيوم.

اإن ج�سم الاإن�سان يعمل في هذه الحالة كبطارية، فال�سحنات

الزائدة ت�شري من لوح الاألمنيوم وتنتقل عبر الاأميتر اإلى لوح

النحا�ض لتعوي�ض ال�سحنات الناق�سة، اأما ج�سم الاإن�سان

فيغلق الدائرة، ولا ن�سعر بالتيار المار ب�سبب مقاومة الج�سم

العالية.

يقوم المكثف بعمل دائرة، وكيف يقوم العداد

الرقمي بالعد و اأي�سا كيف يعمل جهاز

محاولة للاإجابة على هذه الاأ�سئلة التقنية.

عر�س جنون العلوميقدم العر�ض طرقاً رائعة لتعليم الاأطفال المفاهيم العلمية

با�ستخدام األعاب ال�سحر، والفقاعات الكبيرة، والمو�سيقى،

والفنون.

مختبر المخترعين ال�سغاري�سارك الاأطفال في العديد من الاأن�سطة العلمية التفاعلية

التي �سممت لتحفيز الاأطفال على التفكير مثل العلماء.

ويتوزع هذا الق�سم على ثلاث مناطق، على النحو التالي:

• منطقة الفيزياء: يقوم الاأطفال باإجراء التجارب الفيزيائية

التي يمكنهم اإعادة اإجرائها في البيت.

• منطقة الكيمياء: ي�ساهد الاأطفال ويجربون تفاعلات

كيميائية مثيرة وكاأنها عر�ض �سحري ممتع.

• منطقة الأحياء: يمكن للاأطفال مناق�سة بع�ض العمليات

البيولوجية مثل التمثيل ال�سوئي، والتنا�سح، التي

خبروا البع�ض منها في المدر�سة، اأو التي �سيتعلمونها في

الم�ستقبل.

معر�س “األف اختراع واختراع”معر�ض م�ستوحى من كتاب األف اختراع واختراع، وي�ستمل على

محاكاة للعديد من الاختراعات والمخترعين في الع�شر الذهبي

للح�سارة الاإ�سلامية.

يتعرف زوار مركز القطان للطفل خلال هذا المعر�ض على

الاإنجازات العلمية والثقافية للم�سلمين في القرن ال�سابع وحتى

القرن ال�سابع ع�شر.

معر�س "مخترعون فل�سطينيون"يتيح هذا المعر�ض الفر�سة للمخترعين الفل�سطينيين ال�سباب

ل�شرح ميزات ومزايا اختراعاتهم للزوار وتلقي الملاحظات. كما

�ستتاح الفر�سة للزوار لمحاولة تجريب الاأ�سياء في بيئة تفاعلية.

نفق الزمنيمكن للاأطفال التعرف على منجزات الما�سي والحا�شر، من خلال

اللعب والروؤية واللم�ض بدخولهم نفقاً تم ت�سميمه بطريقة

فنية ومنحهم فر�سة لتخيل ما يمكن اأن يكون عليه الم�ستقبل؟

تف�سيلي م�سور للكائنات الحية ح�سب ت�سل�سلها التطوري والت�سنيفي الحديث، عر�ض

مج�سمات ت�شريحية ومل�سقات لكائنات حيوانية متعددة، تعريف بالكائنات الدقيقة بعد

زراعتها على اطباق تربية خا�سة، وم�ساهدات للاثر الم�ساد لبع�ض م�ستخل�سات نباتات

طبية على نمو انواع مختلفة من البكتيريا، ا�سافة الى عدة ومل�سقات عر�ض كبيرة لتجارب

بيوتكنولوجية ي�ستخدم بها تقنيات الجزيئية وحو�سبة بيولوجية. كما ان هناك عدة

م�ساهدات طبية ي�ستطيع الطلبة من خلالها تحديد زمرة الدم، وتحليل مخبري كامل للدم،

ا�سافة الى عرو�ض حية حول طرق الا�سعافات الاولية.

التجارب العلمية في الكيمياء محاكاة لبركان مائي عن طريق تحليل الماء، وم�ساهدات

لا�ستخدام الحبر ال�شري، الكرات المتحركة والتي يتم عر�ض

حركتهالاعلى والى ا�سفل نتيجة تفاعل حام�ض مع بايكربونات

ال�سوديوم، عر�ض للتحليل الكهربائي للماء وتو�سيح طريقة

تحليل الماء الى غاز الكجين وغاز الهيدروجين، وم�ساهدات

لل�سوائل ذات الكثافات المختلفة وكيف ان ال�سائل ذو الكثافة

المنخف�سه يطفو الى اعلى، تجارب �سناعة المبلمرات وال�سيراميك

حيث �سيتم تو�سيح طريقة ب�سيطة ل�سناعتها نتيجة تفاعل

الغراء الاأبي�ض او ال�سمغ مع البوراك�ض

ثانياً: معر�س البتكارات الطلابية

وهو عبارة عن عر�ض م�ساريع طلابية عدد )16( اأربعة

م�ساريع في كل موقع من معر�ض الابتكارات الطلابية.

هذه الم�ساريع حققت تميزاً في معر�ض فل�سطين للعلوم

والتكنولوجيا الذيتم ا�ست�سافته من قبل وزارة التربية

والتعليم.

اأولً: التجارب العلمية التفاعلية

تتميز العرو�ض والتجارب باأنها تطبيقية تنقل تعلم

الطلبة اإلى �سياقات حياتية وحيوية تفاعلية ت�سجع

الطلبة على العمل التعاوني والتفكير الاإبداعي

والتحليلي. هذا التحدي لتقديم الاأف�سل يهدف لاثارة

ف�سول ال�سباب الفل�سطيني في العلم والتكنولوجيا

والابتكار ولحث طلاب المدار�ض لتحويل ما تعلموه في

المدر�سة لاأعمال اإبداعية ملمو�سة. والفكرة الرئي�سية

هنا هو ت�سجيع اأعمال الطلبة التعاونية وتعزيز قدرة

تفكيرهم التحليلي والنقدي.

وهي عبارة عن تجارب علمية تفاعلية في العلوم العامة

والفيزياء والكيمياء والاأحياء ثلاث تجارب في كل موقع

يقوم بعر�سها طلبة متميزون ممن حققوا نتائج

متقدمة في الاولمبياد المدر�سي، وكذلك تجارب مختارة

من المعار�ض العلمية عدد )16( التي تنفذ في مديريات

التربية والتعليم.

العلوم للجميعيعمل مهرجان العلوم الفل�سطيني على الا�ستجابة لتوقعاتنا

من خلال تي�سير و�سول جيل ال�سباب الفل�سطيني اإلى عالم

العلوم ب�سهولة وي�شر، وكما يعمل على الم�ساهمة في توفير

حب العلوم، و�سوف يكت�سف الطلبة الفل�سطينيون خلال اأيام

كل مكان حولنا، ويمكن اأن تترجم في حياتنا اليومية اإلى واقع

عملي مثير.

SCIENCE FOR EVERYONE The Science Festival responds to our expectations by offering the young Palestinian generation an easy access to the world of science and by contributing to the hatching of an enlightened and inspired youth. During the days of the festival, students will discover, in a playful and interactive way, how science is all around us and can be translated in our daily life.

في بضع كلمات�سيتم تنظيم مهرجان العلوم الفل�سطيني الثالث لهذا العام

2012 في عدة محافظات في ال�سفة الغربية وقطاع غزة وهي

)نابل�ض، اأبو دي�ض، الخليل، بيرزيت وغزة( بال�شراكة مع الجامعات

الفل�سطينية ابتداء من 5 اإلى 14 من �سهر نوفمبر 2012 ،

وهناك برنامج مقترح للاأن�سطة المتوقعة، حيث ي�ستمل المهرجان

على ور�سات عمل مختلفة والعاب علمية، وتجارب علمية رائعة

من قبل طلبة المدار�ض الفل�سطينية والفرن�سية ومعار�ض

تفاعلية، وعرو�ض لاأفلام ق�سيرة، وعرو�ض لاإبداعات طلبة

الجامعات.

IN A FEW WORDSThe Science Festival will be organized in different cities throughout Palestine, in West Bank and Gaza Strip (Nablus, Abu Dis, Hebron, Birzeit and Gaza) in partnership with universities, from the 5 to the 14 of November 2012. A program of activities will propose workshops and scientific games, experiments shown by Palestinian students and French organizations, interactive exhibitions, screenings of short movies, and mini-shows.
