Why are the Champions involved in this Catalyst?
The HIP Model aligns with our vision of abstraction of the network into a domain structure, and our vision of a NaaS (Networks as a Service) layer customised for Telstra’s requirements.
We are experimenting with enhancing the model to address our unique environment and operational automation requirements
We are working closely with Ciena and others to establish the domain framework and APIs similar to the Catalyst’s standards based approach.
Looking to standardise services exposure with TMF OpenAPIs
Orange supports MEF APIs toenable much smoother intercarrier service delivery
Orange has been a leading API design contributor in the MEF working groups
Aligns with Vodafone’s unique structure, where multiple Local Markets leverage other Local Markets’ or Group-wide Services
Vodafone implements Open API based Service Ordering for existing physical & new virtualised services.
Vodafone also aligns to the MEF 'Third Generation Network Vision'

Catalyst Objective – phase 2.1
Objective: Demonstrate fulfilment of an Ethernet Virtual Connection (EVC) order to connect on-net
customer site with off-net customer site showing:
1) Use of the MEF Sonata interface to the off-net SP for their end of the Operator Vertial
Connection (OVC).
2) Use of TMF OpenAPIs (TMF/Legato) to provision the On-net OVC Service as part of
the EVC.

Rapidly construct a new product offering based on a new network
service and within minutes be able to sell that offering
Co-ordinating fulfilment with other CSPs to deliver cohesive services
for your customer. Standards based – TMF & MEF aligned (SID, eTOM, OpenAPIs)
Cloud based – rapid deployment
Agile – streamlining creation of new products and provisioned through
catalogue driven order management.
Flexible – Able to support all manner of network services (legacy &
next gen) enabling CSPs to be innovative in the products they take to
market (Wholesale, Enterprise or Retail)

On-net Configuration first – if this can’t be achieved, there is no point ordering service from the partner SP

Off-net order may take a longer period of time – little control
of how long
Once the off-net service has been
provisioned, activate the on-net service to
start the customer facing service

Catalyst Effort
Component Architecture Phase 2.1
The off-net SP is effectively a black box, but they will also have a full stack internally.
The HIP layer is passing API requests straight through in this release, but future releases will enable it to do protocol translation and handle multiple southbound domains.

Summary
Through the catalyst programme, we’ve shown:
TMF APIs for resources configuration & activation TMF HIP Architecture MEF Legato payload on TMF APIs MEF Sonata for ordering off-net resources
To prove : The standards do work The architecture is valid Standards alignment eases integration and with full
conformance coding can be avoided.
