Term 3, Week 9

Monday night was full of activity for some of our Year 6

students. Two of our School Ambassadors, along with

Mr Hoey, attended the presentations as part of the

Student Leaders Congress, at the Lighthouse Theatre.

This is an exciting event and in front of a packed venue,

students highlight the projects happening in their

schools across our region. Our students presented the

work we are doing in Positive Education and in

particular, Growth Mindset origami project, ‘Learning to

Fold, Folding to Learn’.

Also on this night, eight students presented their

passionate speeches to the members of Rotary and

their families. Their speeches highlighted their insight

and commitment to creating a better future. I was

really impressed with the quality of their presentations

as were the Rotarians. At the end of the evening, Sue

Robertson, (Rotarian) presented the school with a

cheque for $2000 to go towards the student-led project

which is focused on building a small soccer area.

This week I would like to acknowledge Jade King who

shows compassion and empathy towards our younger

students when helping in the Café. Just recently, a

small boy thought he was having a pie and when he

discovered that was not the case, became upset.

Jade immediately went over to him and spoke to him

for about 15 minutes, helping him to calm down and

reassure him that it was going to be ok. Well done Jade!

I have met with Tricia Smith and Linda-Mary from the

local theatre group. They are organising a special

Pantomime for primary aged children that will be

performed in January. For more information look for the

information page later in the newsletter.

Hoping everyone enjoys the sunshine this weekend!

Foundation 1/2’s :

In Reading we have been continuing to find the Main Idea (What

the story is mostly about). In Writing we have been writing

narratives and taking the time to learn the parts of a narrative. In

Maths 1/2 D and 2A have been learning about Multiplication and

thinking about arrays and F-V and F/1 W have been investigating

money.

Grade 3/4’s :

A reminder that all camp forms and payments are due this Friday,

we are really looking forward to next term and finalising camp

preparations. This week in Reading we are learning to identify the

author’s purpose. In Writing, we are learning about connectives

and punctuation to help us with our narratives. In Numeracy, we

are continuing to investigate the relationship between

multiplication and division.

Grade 5/6’s :

This week in Maths we have been calculating the distance

between locations we will be visiting during Melbourne Camp. In

Writing students have been enjoying researching and composing

information reports. In Reading we have been exploring

Parliament house and the different symbols and traditions

involved in Government and law making. A reminder to Grade 5

students to continue to think about resources for scrap

booking. Additionally, well done to our School Ambassadors

who presented at the Student Leaders Congress, also our public

speakers for reading their speeches at the Rotary dinner when

accepting a generous donation going towards a new soccer

pitch.

5/6 MELBOURNE CAMP

Parents/Carers, the Melbourne Camp will be upon before we know it, therefore it

is essential that we have everything in place and are aware of what is

happening.

$370 must be paid, along with a medical form and permission slip - either on

XUNO or paper copies, are due by Sep 16th.

We really need to know numbers so that we can finalise bookings for

accommodation, events and transport, therefore, please notify us if your

child is not attending. If you have financial difficulties, please let us know so

we can work something out.

Please discuss with your child how diligent they will need to be in Melbourne’s

CBD. The stress it puts on teachers is extremely high due to plethora of

traffic; people, trams, cars and the general fast-paced lifestyle it entails. 5/6 Team

MEALS ON WHEELS

We are coming up for our second round of Meals on Wheels.

Week 4 of Term 4 - October 28th to November 1st. Please

contact the school office if you are able to assist with this

important program as there are still spots available,

we need seven volunteers still.

All volunteers are required to have a current Working With Children Check, Drivers

Licence and Insurance, which all need to be sighted by the school as evidence.

BUS TRAVEL

Another reminder of the importance of good communication to the school office

surrounding student country bus travellers.

Children who are registered as bus travellers, but who will NOT be utilising the bus

service occasionally, do require a signed notification to the school that the

student will not be on the bus, for a specified morning or night.

If your child does not use the normal bus travel on a regular basis, i.e. Basketball

night, etc. a notification to the effect that every Thursday night your child will not

be on the bus, can be used for convenience.

Term 3 - 2019 :

Warm up this winter with a $6 freshly prepared meal from

our café Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday). Each meal has a

snack (baked goods and fruit) and a main meal. We are excit-

ed to bring you the winter menu that has been a selection of our best sellers.

Michelle and Nicola have been working hard in the café to keep our kids warm

and full of fresh and wholesome foods prepared each day. The café is a part

of the school kitchen garden program and fits in perfect with our 5 - star

sustainability ethos with food being local and freshly prepared. Keeping our

food miles low, we shop locally at IGA, Sheehan’s butchers and Village Bakery.

We would like to acknowledge the very kind and very generous donations

from Shaw River Buffalo Cheese for the fabulous cheese. This brings our

program alive and is a wonderful contribution to making our café menu

deliciously local.

SPECIAL DIETARY : You will notice that the meals have been allocated

according to diet preference. Please check the food offered especially if you

are putting in a term order, as we cannot accommodate all diet needs on all

meals. CAFÉ EXTRAS : If you would like to have an extra serve on any day

just add $2 to your order and let us know ( for example writing on an envelope

that you are having an extra serve). Please make sure that you LABEL YOUR

LUNCH ORDERS so that the office knows who it belongs to and for when you

want café. Eg On an envelope / plastic bag with the childs/children's names,

class/classes and the date they would like café ( eg Friday 28/6/19 )

Thank you to those parents who have now offered to help

out with the Fresh Fruit Friday program.

We have the rest of term three covered, and will put out a roster for term

four shortly. Whilst we do now have two helpers each week for the

remainder of the term, now is a good chance to join in and get to know

what is involved.

The more the merrier!

Friday 13th September Ruth Everitt Jayne Lynch

Friday 20th September Ruth Everitt Jayne Lynch

Term 4 is approaching rapidly which means that the swimming program is just around

the corner. We are very lucky to have a fantastic program run by Jason Lamb’s Splash

Factory, at Belfast Aquatics. Needless to say, especially living by the ocean, swimming

and water safety skills are essential for our children. Students will be placed in ability

groups by the Splash Factory instructors. Foundation students and new families, need to

return the swimming information form ASAP (xuno).

Lessons will run on Wednesdays and Thursdays, through Term 4 for 8 sessions (7 lessons

plus a fun day). The pool is undergoing renovations the first week back in Term 4 so we

will commence week 2. Please ensure your child has appropriate swimwear and gog-

gles if they require them. Please make sure all items are clearly labelled, as each year I

end up with “stray” goggles and other personal items.

Next Thursday a group of 5/6 students will participate in the Brauer Netball fun day, run

by the Brauer Netball Academy students. This is a fantastic day of round robin games, all

about participation and fun. It is also an opportunity for the Brauer students to develop

their leadership, coaching and umpiring skills. As we can only enter 2 teams on the day,

those selected have been uploaded to Xuno for excursion approval.

Port Fairy Theatre Group

We are seeking Expressions of Interest from students from Foundation to Year 6. In total,

we will need twenty players, from both Port Fairy schools. If we are inundated with

enthusiastic students, we may be able to accommodate them in other ways.

The stories selected for the performance include adaptions of Aesop’s Fables:

The Dog and the Bone

The Tortoise and the Hare

The Lion and the Mouse

The Fox and the Grapes

It is crucial that selected, successful students commit themselves to rehearsal and perfor-

mance dates.

For PFCS students, the initial practice sessions will take place in the library. Then it will

move to the Lecture Hall.

The date for the play reading is the 14th October and auditions will be on the 21st

October, both of these take place in the Library at 3:30pm.

Students, who are interested, will need to tell Mrs Tanner by the 7th of October.

At the auditions, we will need to receive contact details for the children involved.

The Theatre Group has secured photocopy rights and negotiated performance fees.

We will need parental permission to video auditions and to take promotional photos for

publicity purposes.

We will get the students to fill out nametags for readings and auditions.

Parents/custodians can involve themselves in a variety of ways, e.g costumes, backstage,

supervision, transport, make-up, publicity etc.

All adults involved will need a “Working with Children” Voluntary Status Certification.

The Pantomime is to be performed on the 11th & 12th January 2020.

Tricia and Linda-Mary are the contact people and their details are:

Tricia – 0439 884120 Linda-Mary – 0417 159608

We look forward to working together when displaying the students’ talents and bringing

local organisations together to foster harmonious community connections.

There is also a possibility that the Theatre Group may enter a float for the Moyneyana

parade on New Year’s Eve. Students would have the opportunity to participate in this.
