    others within a defined structure and to apply within theirsupervisory role the policies, procedures and best practicerelated to the protection of people.

    Students are introduced to Word Processing, Spreadsheets,

    Database and PowerPoint. The Office Administration moduleencourages active evaluation of business communications andgives an insight in to underpinning legal aspects of theoffice/business environment.     Award you will require to achieve a total of 30 credits (fromHNC and HND).

    Optional units may include (numbers dependent): Creating aCulture of Customer Care, SAGE, Payroll, Leadership atWork, Introduction to Law, Medical Terminology for Administra-tion Staff, Hospital Patient Administration.

    The HND extends the knowledge and understanding from theHNC with students studying core units in Advanced WordProcessing, Advanced Spreadsheets, and AdvancedDatabases. Individual presentation skills will be furtherenhanced and developed in the Presentation Skills module.The Office Management unit equips students with importantknowledge pertaining to contemporary business conceptssuch as Change Management, Recruitment and Selection and

    PDA Book-keeping ILA200This qualification comprises of units in Book-keeping, Payrolland Sage Accounting. This course is studied on an evening orDistance Learning basis. The PDA Book-keeping is suitablefor candidates employed in the accounting/business sectorwho wish to enhance their career prospects or anyoneseeking to gain skills in the book-keeping area. The course willprepare students for employment within the accounting andbusiness services sector for positions such as AccountingAssistants, Payroll Clerks and Financial Administrators.

    The course will develop manual book-keeping skills as well asusing financial accounting software to record accountingtransactions. It will also develop skills in basic payroll proce-dures using manual and computerised systems. The unitsstudied will be Recording Financial Information or RecordingFinancial Transactions, Using Financial Accounting Softwareand Payroll.

    businesscoursesWorkbased Qualifications ILA200SVQs are work-based qualifications, which set a level ofoccupational competence for each sector of the economy.Industry lead bodies made up of experienced practitionersfrom employers, professional bodies, trade unions, educationand the voluntary sector have designed the qualifications.Each lead body is responsible for developing nationalstandards which define what employees, or potential employ-ees, must be able to do, how well, and in what circumstancesto show that they are competent at their work. Each SVQ mustfit into a broad framework which allows for comparison ofqualifications in the UK and throughout Europe. SVQs arespecified at 5 levels, which reflect the various skills, knowl-edge and experience that employees should have as theyprogress in their industry.

    For all SVQs, the level at which you can qualify depends onyour current job role. There are no formal academic entryrequirements for the course as it is fundamentally vocationallybased.

    We deliver the following Vocational Qualifications:

    Business & Administration (Levels 1 4): TheseVQs take you from basic clerical tasks to dealing withmanagerial issues such as budgeting, staffing and resourceallocation. Each level consists of core units that are funda-mental to the Business & Administration area and optionalunits from which you can choose thus ensuring the qualifica-tion route you select is relevant to your particular workcircumstances.

    Management(Levels 3 & 4): These VQs range from level

    3 for managers with some responsibility for managingresources, allocating work to others and ensuring health andsafety requirements are met to level 4 which is for managerswhose responsibilities include implementing operational plans,allocating work to others, achieving results and providingleadership.

    Team Leading (Level 2): This VQ is for those managerswho are in their first managerial role and/or have a limitedarea of control. They are also likely to have a tightly definedarea of responsibility.

    Customer Service (Levels 2 & 3): If you have regularcontact with customers this is the qualification route for you.Develop your customer care skills, monitor and resolvecomplaints and develop good customer care strategies toimplement improvements and enhance your organisationsreputation and service.

    coursesHNC Accounting PFGThis practical course will introduce and develop your skills insupplying, interpreting and advising on financial information. Itallows entry on to the career ladder and gives you the choiceof which direction you wish to pursue. For those in theworkplace, the course can be studied on day release over aperiod of two years (full-time numbers permitting). Alterna-tively, it can also be studied through a range of flexible anddistance learning options.

    Entry requirements to this course are two Highers (includingEnglish) or relevant industrial experience or NC Administration& Information Technology (with Finance Options).

    The HNC can act as a springboard for those wishing toprogress on to a professional accounting qualification. Thisincludes exemption from the Association of Chartered CertifiedAccountants (ACCA) Level 1 examinations. Successfulcompletion of the HNC may also give direct entry to a range ofdegree programmes at university.

    Successful students can find employment opportunities suchas assistant accountant, payroll clerk, senior book-keepers orpurchase/sales ledger supervisors in industry and business inthe private and public sectors.

    The main aims of the HNC in Management are to provide arange of managerial competences which are required by bothpublic and private sector organisations. This includes topicssuch as leadership, motivation, teambuilding, recruitment andselection, performance appraisal and quality management.Students who do not wish to commit to the full course canstudy two units as an introduction to the study of manage-ment. This includes; Leadership at Work and Managing &

    Working with People.

    Attendance is part-time and can be studied;

    At College, two days per week over one year or one day aweek over two years.

    SVQ Level 2 Food & Drink ServiceILA200The qualification consists of eight units, four of which aremandatory and the other four are selected by the individualcandidates. It has specialist units relevant to all aspects offood and drink service, including:

Students can expect the course to focus on FoodPreparation at Level 2, Hot and Cold Desserts at Level 2,Food Production at Level 2 and Practical Food Hygiene.

    Students will work in the Restaurant 56 production kitchen,producing food for tomorrows restaurant customer. By theend of the course they will be able to select and carry out avariety of cooking techniques appropriate to the food beingprepared and to be able to carry out prep and plan workingmethods effectively.

    Students will be assessed throughout the course with amixture of practical and online theory tests.

    SVQ Level 3 Professional CookeryILA200This advanced SVQ is aimed at those already in employmentin a professional kitchen, or who have achieved the entrancerequirements (SVQ Level 2) and wish to reinforce and developtheir knowledge and skills.The aim of the course is to providestudents with necessary modern practical skills to meet thedemands of employers within the Hospitality Industry.

    Course ContentStudents will complete a range of units, according to theirinterests, careers ambitions and any previousstudies/experience. Units may include:

    Establish and develop positive working relationships inhospitality

    Maintain the health, hygiene, safety and security of theworking environment

    Maintain food safety when storing, preparing and cookingfood

    the demands of the course which is aimed at Intermediate 2level. Applicants should be employed in a relevant industry buta place could be offered to enthusiastic amateurs dependingon experience. Entry is subject to interview.

    The course is taught in both a classroom and practical settingby well-qualified, experienced staff. It will run on the Collegecampus and at St.Vigeans Glebe and will include a number ofeducational visits. Students will attend theoretical and practicalsessions in soft landscaping, garden design, machinery,horticulture, plant identification, hard landscaping and estateskills.

    One year part-time (one day per week) or it may be possibleto study individual units.

    The aim of the course is to equip students with knowledge ofthe structure and function of the key animal body systems,including the building blocks of life, the cells and tissues. Youwill be required to develop a working knowledge of anatomicallanguage and descriptions. You will then go on to learn thepractical skills required for handling, restraint, sexing andbasic bandaging techniques before learning to recognise andact upon a range of first aid conditions

    Assessment of your knowledge is by written, short answerassessments, practical work and a large written report.Applicants should, therefore, have a sound grasp of communi-cations skills.

    Delivery of the course will be based on one half-day class perweek over the course of an academic year. (September -

    Prices stated are for session 11/12. Pricing will likely change for session 12/13.Pricing should be confirmed for

    session 12/13 by April 2012 approx.

    For Highers and Intermediates, students will be expected to complete within 1 academic year (September -

    May) and will be supported during this period only. If you are studying by Distance Learning your funding will

    need to be in place by the end of September to enable you to begin your course. There may be exceptions tothis for those who have already achieved their NABs (this will be looked at on an individual basis).

    Any payments can be made by credit/debit card, cheque or by cash. Instalments are non-refundable unless you

    leave your course due to medical reasons

    Part-time Funding

    Individual Learning Account (ILA) Scotland 200 FundingIf you earn less than 22,000 per year, are aged 16 or over and are a resident in Scotland then you may qualify for 200

    funding each year from ILA Scotland.

    ILA Scotland 200 funding can be used towards the cost of many courses but you must have your account activated by

    ILA Scotland before the start date of your selected course otherwise you may be unable to use this type of funding. If the

    cost of your selected course is more than 200 then you will be liable to pay the balance before we can proceed with

    your ILA booking.

    Part-time Fee Grant(formerly known as ILA500)

    This scheme provides up to 500 a year towards the cost of tuition fees.

    Eligibility

    To qualify for this funding, you should have an individual income of 22,000 a year or less. You also need to be studying

    a part-time Higher Education course, Professional Development Award (PDA) or Continuing Professional Development

    (CPD) at levels 7-11 of the Scottish Qualifications Framework (SCQF) and complete between 40 and 89 SCQF credits

    per year. You must also be studying at a Scottish Institution. Eligible learners studying less than 40 SCQF credits may

    qualify for the ILA200 offer. Students must be studying 40 SCQF credits or more in any academic year and would be

    liable to pay the balance if the cost of the course is more than 500.

    Applications for funding can be obtained online from SAAS at www.saas.gov.uk

    You should have your funding in place before the start date of the course otherwise you may be unable to use this type of

    funding.
