PART 3 - WHAT TO PRAY


Q. WHAT IS PRAYER?

A. Our PERSONAL means of communication with the One who created the world

Luke 11:1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him,

"Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."


Matthew 6:9-13

“Our Father which art in heaven,Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come,Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, for ever.Amen.”


OUR TEMPLATE FOR PRAYER1. PRAY TO THE FATHER

“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”

Hallowed (hagiazoto): to make holy

Prayer starts with respect for the Father, not the requests of the Father’s children.

Our – the relationship that we share with other ChristiansFather - our relationship to God.



“Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”

His desire must be our desire

2. PRAY FOR GOD’S KINGDOM TO COME AND HIS WILL TO BE DONE



“Give us this day our daily bread.”


3. PRAY FOR GOD’S PROVISION

God’s concerns take precedence over our concerns.



Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:9-11





“Give us this day our daily bread.”



And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:19





4. PRAY FOR GOD’S FORGIVENESS

“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”

Not forgiveness that leads to salvation, but the forgiveness that leads to harmony within the family of God.






“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9






“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

5. PRAY FOR GOD’S DELIVERANCE

We are engaged in a spiritual conflict, and His intervention give us spiritual deliverance.






For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4







No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1 Corinthians 10:13



Prayer is a great privilege that demands a deep commitment.
