Step 1
• STEP 1: You must have a Google Gmail account to access these programs
• To open a Gmail account go to: http:mail.google.com/mail/signup or
search “gmail.com” and create a Gail account
• Or if you have a Gmail account access Gmail and leave open
Step 2: Access: https://sites.google.com/Create a new Google sties web page
using a customized template (Pre-made template recommended for novices)
What is a wiki?
A wiki is a Web site that allows a community of users to access it collaboratively and edit Web site content via a Web browser using a WYSIWYG text editor (Wikipedia, 2010). Wikipedia, the free collaborative encyclopedia, is an example of a wiki.
STEP 3: Add and edit content one way is from inside google Sites, edit a page by clicking on “Edit Page” (icon in upper right) to load a WYSWYG
editor

STEP 5: ADD GADGETS• To enhance the use and utility of
your site
• Definitions: Gadgets are pre-complied scripts that you can import into your google Sites web site.
• Examples of a google Sites gadget is “Calendar”
• Others are written by google users and not supported by google. Make sure an imported gadget works before saving it as a permanent feature of your site.
Step 5: Add a gadget cont.From the location in google Sites you wish to insert a gadget, click “Edit Page”

STEP 6: Create, Share, or Upload google DOCS (e.g., into google Sites )
• google Docs allows multiple users to collaboratively create and edit word documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and forms online. You can access your files from any computer with an Internet connection and a standard browser.
• Open your browser and go to http://docs.google.com OR • Access it from google’s main page• click on arrow next to the “more” column and
select• “Documents” to go to main page of google docs

google Docs has advantages and disadvantages + many can work on doc in near real time
- google retains all docs on their server

STEP 9: For information collection, create a Google ALERT
• Go to google Search Click on Advanced Search (on right side, below google search box) Click on "More" and "Even More" Click on "Alert"
