Project 8: Xiamen Trip21 - 25 Nov 2011

China Week 2011

Our trip to Xiamen was commenced from 21 to 25 November 2011. Guided by Lilaoshi and Jesus, we were granted myriads of opportunities to learn more about China. Describe the week in a word - enlightening! !e followings are the esscences of our awesome week:

Cultural Performances and ExchangesOn the seond day of our trip, we have made a cultural perfor-mance for the Ximan No. 1 Middle School. !rough perfor-mances like South Asian Dance, North American Dance, and Group Singing, students fom the school were enabled to take a closer look to di"erent cultures, espcially those they are not familiar with. Meanwhile, we have made presentations to intro-duce our own countries, including Macedonia, the United States, Ethiopia, etc.. Students were greatly intrigued and they were eager to present their own culture to us as well! To summarize, it was a really nice experience.

Living in the University of Xiamen, the students of the univer-sity made us a guided visit around the campus which has been renowned for its scenery. A#erthat, we had a casual cultural exchange with performances made by both parties. !eir per-formances on Chinese Dance, Solo Singing and speeches are just amazing, $lling us with utter awe.

Experiencing Xiamen Life

Exploring the architecture styles in China

Not at all, we visited a local social welfare centre and peformed for the elderly of the centre as well. Communicating with the elderly and the person-in-charge of the centre, we learnt a lot more more the social welfare system and the daily life of Xia-men.

!e $rst thing to note is the FOOD we tried! !roughout the 5-day trip, we have tried vari-ous kind of local food in Xiamen, including the Chinese yogurt, barbequed sausages in Chinese traditional herbs, and soup noodles served with goose meat. Each taste was so unique and unfor-gettable. !ose truly tempt me to visit Xiamen again!

Of course, besides food, travelling in Xiamen for days, we have experienced and witnessed dif-ferent aspects of Xiamen life. !e taste of that is samely fabulous.

Another thing which must be mentioned is sightseeings! Visiting the architectural park of Fujian Province, Tulou in the countryside, Nan-putuo Temple, and the Guliang Island we were enabled to take a deeper look into di"erent architecture styles from di"erent parts of China. Our horizons have been greatly broadened.

Much more than that...Along the short but invigorating trip, we truly had lots of fun though sometimes was really exhausting. And the bonding among each of us has been greatly strengthened.

Last but not least.......We sincerely hope to thank Lilaoshi, Jesus and Candy, our dear student leader, who had arranged everything for us.
