“She was just too good. She still does

things wrong, so there is a lot to improve on. She’s going to be a classy

mare for sure.

"I started my apprenticeship for Mick Price and I never rode a winner

for him so to get the opportunity today and ride a Listed winner for him is

massive for me.”

Bred and raced by Geoff Walsh, in conjunction with long-term

partners Lindsay Maxsted and Simon Tuxen, Parlophone (2 f I Am

Invincible - Roulettes by Flying Spur) has had four starts, for two wins and

a placing, amassing $111,550 in prize-money.

She is the fourth named foal out of St Albans Stakes (Listed, 1000m)

winner Roulettes, making her a sister to Skyline Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m)

runner-up Spin and a half-sister to Telemon Stud’s first-season sire Sun

City (Zoustar).

Roulettes herself is a half-sister to two-time Group 3 scorer and All

Aged Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) placegetter Royal Discretion (Royal Academy)

and a full-sister to the dam of Vezalay (Shamardal), who was purchased

by Widden Stud and David Redvers Bloodstock for $1 million at last year’s

Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

The daughter of Flying Spur (Danehiil) has a Deep Field (Northern

Meteor) yearling colt who was purchased by Alan Bell for $800,000 at this

year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, while she is currently in

foal to Dundeel (High Chaparral).

Parlophone becomes the 56th individual stakes winner for Yarraman

Park Stud’s leading sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit), while she

is his 29th two-year-old stakes winner, joining the likes of Loving Gaby,

Invincible Star and Catch Me.

With less than a week left of the 2019/20 season, I Am Invincible sits

at the top of the leading sires by winners list while he is second behind

Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) on the leading sires by earnings table.

The son of Invincible Spirit (Green Desert) stands at Yarraman Park

Stud for a fee of $209,000 (inc GST) in 2020.

Viridine brings up a million in Bletchingly

Godolphin gelding Viridine (Poet’s Voice) made up for his last start

defeat in the Sir John Monash Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) with a win in the

yesterday’s Bletchingly Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Caulfield, and in the

process, hit the million dollar mark in prize-money.

Given a brilliant ride from Damien Oliver, Viridine settled midfield on

the rails and the champion jockey bided his time in the straight before

sneaking through on the inside of Great Again (Viscount) to win by three-

quarters of a length.

Futurity Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) winner Streets Of Avalon (Magnus) ran

on well to finish second with Great Again holding on to finish a neck away

in third.

"He wasn't brilliant away so I wanted to work on getting him relaxed

and let the rest of the race unfold," Oliver said.

"He quickened better today when he spat the bit out. I was kind of

surveying my options when we came to the turn. I could see them opening

up a little bit. One of them was going to the fence and got a bit neat. The

horse was going well enough to push through.

"I think he's well placed around this mark just below the better ones.

The short distances are the key, too. James (Cummings) has got him going

really well and is placing him well."

A multiple stakes winner and a Group 1 placegetter, Viridine (5 g

Poet's Voice - Patina by Anabaa) has taken his overall record to eight wins

from 29 starts while his career earnings now sit at $1,021,210.

He is the fifth foal out of winning mare Patina (Anabaa), making him a

half-brother to Listed placegetter St Edward’s Crown (Epaulette) and two

other winners.

Patina herself is a half-sister to Jerezana (Lonhro), who is the dam of

multiple Group 1 placegetter Osborne Bulls (Street Cry) and the stakes-

placed Badajoz (Commands).

Viridine is one of 19 stakes winners for former Darley shuttler Poet’s

Voice (Dubawi), who stood in Australia for five seasons and covered 504

mares, resulting in 335 foals.

The son of Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) died at Darley’s Dalham Hall

Stud in 2018 aged 11 after suffering a heart attack.

Mugatoo back with impressive Winter Challenge win

If his win in the Winter Challenge (Listed, 1500m) at Rosehill yesterday

is anything to go by, European import Mugatoo (Henrythenavigator)

could be in for a fruitful spring.

First-up since finishing sixth in the Tancred Stakes (Gr 1, 2400m) in

March, the Kris Lees-trained Mugatoo settled at the rear of the field under

champion jockey Hugh Bowman.

The five-year-old veered out around the bend and rocketed past his

rivals to score by three quarters of a length. Sambro (Fastnet Rock) was

second with Taikomochi (Snitzel) a further length and a quarter away in

third.

Lees had been unsure if Mugatoo would be sharp enough to win the

Winter Challenge and said a genuine pace helped his cause.

"We probably got a better tempo than what it looked on paper but he

picked up some nice horses there and he was pretty strong through the

line, which is what we wanted to see," Lees said.

Next month's Premier's Cup (Gr 3, 1900m) at Rosehill is likely to be

Mugatoo's next stop but beyond that, Lees is keeping an open mind.

"He will be entered for everything. He's the type who could go to an

Epsom or a Metropolitan," Lees said.

"He was a little bit fresh today but I shouldn't judge him on that

because he was first-up.

"I'm in no rush to get him to weight-for-age but this could be the

season to try him at that level because he has the acceleration."

Riding for the first time in over a month following a winter break,

Bowman brought up a treble on Mugatoo following earlier wins aboard

Smart Image (Smart Missile) and Dancing Gidget (Al Maher).

He tracked Sam Clipperton on equal favourite Order Again into the

race and said Mugatoo's victory augured well for his future.

"He's certainly a class horse and showed that in the final stages,"

Bowman said. "I think he is still very 'wintry' in the coat and has

improvement in him.

"He put the writing on the wall last preparation and I think he has an

exciting future."

Raced by Australian Bloodstock, Mugatoo (5 g Henrythenavigator -

Elopa by Tiger Hill) has had 12 starts for six wins and 2 placings, earning

$365,545 in prize-money.

He is the sixth foal out of multiple stakes winner and Pretty Polly

Stakes (Gr 1, 1m 2f) third Elopa (Tiger Hill), making him a half-brother

to the Group 1 performed Wedding March (Dalakhani) and Ribblesdale

Stakes (Gr 3, 1m 4f) placegetter Elik (Dalakhani).

Elopa is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Epalo (Lando) and Evening

Breeze (Surumu), who is the dam of stakes scorers Eagle Rise (Danehill),

Eye Of The Tiger (Tiger Hill), Evensong (Waky Nao) and Echoes Rock

(Tiger Hill).

Mugatoo is one of 23 stakes winners for former Coolmore stallion

Henrythenavigator (Kingmambo).

Six for Outreach

Widden Stud resident Outreach (Exceed

And Excel) sired his sixth first-crop winner

Castlecomer (2 g ex Barcelona Girl by Noverre)

took out yesterday’s Kentan Machinery 2YO

Maiden Plate at Gosford. The Chris Waller-

trained gelding scored by a narrow margin

of a nose ahead of Sky Lab (Real Impact) in

second, with a neck back to Solar Apex (Deep

Impact) in third. Purchased by his trainer and

Guy Mulcaster for $150,000 at the Inglis Classic

Yearling Sale, Castlecomer is the sixth foal out

of Barcelona Girl (Noverre), making him a half-

brother to Group 1 winner Under The Louvre

(Excellent Art). Further back, this is also the

family of Coolmore first season sire Yes Yes Yes

(Rubick) and star sprinter In Her Time (Time

Thief). Outreach, the brother to Golden Slipper

Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m)-winner filly Overreach,

stands at Widden Stud for a fee of $5,500 (inc

GST) in 2020.

56 for I Am InvincibleYarraman Park Stud resident I Am Invincible

(Invincible Spirit) sired his 56th individual

stakes winner yesterday when Parlophone (2 f ex

Roulettes by Flying Spur) took out the Lightning

Stakes (Listed, 1050m) at Morphettville. The

son of Invincible Spirit (Green Desert) stands at

Yarraman for a fee of $209,000 (inc GST) in 2020.

Five in a row for Mystery ShotMystery Shot (Shooting To Win) made it a

perfect five from five with his victory at Caulfield

yesterday, but only after giving his trainer

Lindsey Smith some worrying moments. The

gelding took out the Neds Bet Back Handicap

(1400m) to follow successive Caulfield victories

after country wins to open his career at

Warrnambool and Ballarat, although he was

forced to battle a little harder this time round.

"I was doing a bit of twitching on the turn

and thought this is not going to be as easy as

last time," Smith said after Mystery Shot beat

Wicklow Town (Canford Cliffs) by a neck, with

Savvy Lad (Savabeel) another three quarters of

a length away in third. "It's good to win five in a

row and I'll speak to the team, but I'm thinking

he'll go and see a bit of green grass."

Skyman impressive on Australian debutEnglish import Skyman (Mukhadram) made an

encouraging start to his Australian racing career

with a convincing win in the Neds Handicap

(1600m) at Caulfield yesterday. The Chris Waller-

trained four-year-old sat back in the field in the

Benchmark 78 race under Damien Thornton

before sprinting past his rivals on the outside in

the straight to score by two and a quarter lengths.

"He's been with us since December and we've

taken our time with him," Waller said. "We had

confidence that he'd run well but you can never

tell how they'll adapt. Some of these European

horses take their time to adapt to our racing and

others get straight into it. He's got straight into

it.” Waller said they would place Skyman to keep

progressing through the grades. "He's the right

type of horse to come through the back door to

better races.”

Another metro win for Snitzel entireA positive ride from Craig Williams on board

Morrissy (Snitzel) reaped dividends as the rising

five-year-old ran out a comfortable winner of

the $100,000 Neds Boost Handicap (1400m) at

Caulfield yesterday. After taking up the running

early on, Morrissy never saw another rival,

hitting the line two and a half lengths in front of

Ruban Bleu (Artie Schiller), who just edged out

Great Duchess (Canford Cliffs) for second spot.

"He runs his heart out every time and he’s well

managed," Williams told Racing.com of the son of

Snitzel who has now won over $500,000. “Nothing

wanted to take up the lead. I knew that if I got into

the straight and built him up into the bend he’d

give a really good kick. He’s really raised the bar

every time."

High Emocean gets the best of stablemate at CaulfieldProgressive staying filly High Emocean (Ocean

Park) continued her winter rise through the ranks

and in the process ended the winning sequence

of her stablemate Persan (Pierro) when landing

yesterday’s Mark Needham Handicap (2394m) at

Caulfield. Two lengths split the Ciaron Maher and

David Eustace-trained pair at the line, with Lord

Bouzeron (Burgundy) another two and a quarter

lengths away in third. It was High Emocean's third

win in a row after victories at Echuca and Sandown

and Eustace said: "She doesn't put herself into a

race, which is fine but she relies on a bit of tempo

which there was today. Teo (Nugent, jockey) kept

her in a nice rhythm and she enjoys finishing over

the top of them. So there's more to come."

Stackhouse steers She's A Thief to victoryDaniel Stackhouse moved back to within two

wins of Jye McNeil at the top of the Victorian

statewide premiership courtesy of a victory

on She’s A Thief (Showcasing) in yesterday's

Neds Same Race Multi Handicap (1100m)

at Caulfield. The mare led all the way under

Stackhouse to score by two and a quarter

lengths over Sword Of Mercy (Sebring), while

Causeway Girl (Shamus Award) was another

three-quarters of a length away third. "I'm

trying my best, I can tell you that much,"

Stackhouse said after riding his 135th winner of

the season in Victoria. "It's a bit of fun and I'm

very happy the way things are going."

Mahamedeis outstays rivals at CaulfieldA tilt at October’s Bendigo Cup (Gr 3, 2400m)

is on the agenda for Mahamedeis (Magnus)

after the Nick Ryan-trained galloper took out

yesterday's Laurelle Owens VOBIS Gold Stayers

(2394m) at Caulfield in impressive fashion. Under

the guidance of Rhys McLeod, Mahamedeis

scored by two and a quarter lengths from Sasko

(Teofilo), with Double You Tee (Written Tycoon)

a further three quarters of a length away in third.

"He's really flown the flag for me," Ryan said of

the rising six-year-old. "I think he was in the first

crop of horses that I bought and he's still racing so

good. It's so great."

Eduardo back in the winner’s stall

Almost two years since his last victory, Eduardo

(Host) returned to the winner’s stall when taking

out the July Sprint (1100m) at Rosehill yesterday.

At his first start since switching to the Joe Pride

Stable, the six-year-old scored by a neck. "There

was a bit of a moment of truth for him at about the

furlong but I was happy to see him really respond

under Nash's (Rawiller, jockey) riding and give

that good kick," Pride said. "There's a good chance

we will come here in a couple of weeks for the

Missile but I'm just happy to have him back."

Sales topper eyeing Melbourne assaultSales topper Octane (I Am Invincible) made it five

wins in six starts since joining Phillip Stokes with

a comfortable success at Morphettville yesterday.

After a slow start to his career, the $1.4million

purchase at the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale

has now won half of his 12 races and picked up

$174,730 in prize-money. The rising five-year-old,

who was previously in the care of Ciaron Maher

and David Eustace, beat Rainmoth (Barbados) by

a length and a quarter in the 1110-metre contest,

with Soul Fire (Churchill Downs) another half a

length away in third.

Red Can Man back with Bolton winThe Steve Wolfe-trained Red Can Man

(Gingerbread Man) returned from a break with

a comfortable win in the HG Bolton Sprint

Handicap (Listed, 1200m) at Belmont yesterday.

The gelding defeated Lockroy (More Than Ready)

by a length and three-quarters with Multiverse

(Universal Ruler) a half-length back in third.

Pike breaks record at BelmontA Belmont double helped Willie Pike break his

own Australian record for winners in a season

as he moved on to the 235 mark after a victory

on board Inspirational Girl (Reliable Man) in the

penultimate race. Pike, who had earlier scored

on Truly Great (Dundeel), will look to increase

his tally when he takes rides at two of the three

meetings left in Western Australia this season.

Fleet Dove lands first city victoryKelly Schweida cemented his new association

with top breeder Basil Nolan when Fleet Dove

(Not A Single Doubt) won at Doomben. In a

tight finish Fleet Dove beat Hancora Field (Deep

Field) by a head with a half-head to Kisukano (Bel

Esprit) in the QTIS Fillies 2Y0 Handicap (1200m).

She has now won two of her three starts but

yesterday's victory was her first in city company.

"She is by top sire Not A Single Doubt out of a very

well-bred mare (Fleet Riane) so she has that going

for her," Schweida said. "Drawing barrier one was

handy today so she could race up on the pace. She

is my first horse for Basil Nolan so it is a bit of a

kick along."

Aqua Vite scores first win in two yearsAqua Vite (Northern Meteor) capitalised on

tailor made track conditions at Doomben to

win his first race in more than two years when

taking out yesterday's TAB Long May We Play

Open Handicap (1600m). Starting as the $3.30

favourite, the rising eight-year-old headed to

the front from the outset and hit the line half a

length clear of High Degree (Exceedingly Good)

to record his first victory in 35 starts. Prince Of

Tie (Casino Prince) was another three quarters

of a length away in third.

Tullio completes comeback with Doomben winTullio (More Than Ready) completed a marvellous

comeback from a career-threatening injury with

his fourth straight win at Doomben yesterday.

The equal $4.40 favourite sat behind the pace and

powered clear to beat his Tony Gollan-trained

stablemate Howwonderfullifeis (Your Song)

by three and three-quarter lengths in the Kirin

Handicap (1050m). It was feared Tullio would be

unable to race again after he needed knee surgery

to remove a chip after finishing second at Eagle

Farm in December, 2018.

Ross reveals secret to wet track successLes Ross revealed his secret to getting horses

which handle wet tracks after Mishani

Fraudster (Jet Spur) won at Doomben. Ross

has built up a reputation as an astute trainer

of young horses and also for recording winners

on wet tracks. "People often ask me why most

of my horses can handle wet tracks," Ross said.

"I tell them it is a secret but really it is because

I work them hail, rain or shine. A lot of trainers

don't like training their horses on wet tracks

because they have expensive price tags. It's one

benefit of having cheap horses."

Doomben abandoned after seven racesPersistent rain forced the abandonment of the

Doomben race with two races remaining. The

track was rated a Soft 7 when the nine-race

program got underway, but by mid-afternoon

it had been downgraded to a Heavy 10. Chief

steward Peter Chadwick said visibility was the

major concern as misty rain and clods of turf

kicked up by horses made it difficult for jockeys

to ride safely. After consultation with jockeys,

stewards abandoned the meeting after race seven.

Adkins taken to hospital after horror fallAndrew Adkins was taken to Westmead Hospital

following a sickening fall that marred the opening

race at Rosehill yesterday. Adkins was aboard the

Danny Williams-trained Hot 'N' Hazy (Snitzel)

who appeared to run out of room in the straight

and crashed to the turf. The colt, who Williams

this week rated his best horse in a decade, suffered

a broken shoulder and was treated by vets on

course but was unable to be saved. Adkins was

attended to by paramedics before racing officials

confirmed he had regained consciousness and

was talking to medical staff. He was transported

to Westmead Hospital with a suspected fractured

leg and possible injuries to several ribs and his

collarbone.

Williams and Rodd hit with bansCraig Williams and Michael Rodd will both miss

next Saturday's season opener at Moonee Valley

after the pair picked up bans for winning rides

at Caulfield yesterday. Williams was given a ten-

meeting ban after pleading guilty to careless riding

aboard Morrissy in the Neds Boost Handicap.

Rodd will spend longer on the sidelines, having

incurred a 14-meeting suspension for shifting

inwards aboard Mystery Shot when not clear of

Michael Walker aboard Savvy Lad in the $100,000

Neds Bet Back Handicap.

Alligator Blood findings releasedThere was no evidence anyone connected with

trainer David Vandyke's stable administered the

prohibited substance which saw Alligator Blood

(All Too Hard) stripped of his Magic Millions

Guineas (RL, 1400m) win, it has been revealed.

Racing Queensland yesterday gave details of

Thursday’s behind closed doors hearing which

resulted in Vandyke being fined $20,000 after

traces of Altrenogest, more commonly known as

Regu-mate, were found in the gelding's post-race

urine sample. Chief steward Peter Chadwick said

there was no indication about how the substance

was administered to Alligator Blood. Vandyke

avoided suspension after being found guilty of

breaching rule AR240(2) - presenting a horse to

race with a prohibited substance. Alligator Blood's

owner Allan Endresz confirmed he will challenge

the disqualification decision in the Supreme Court

after $1.1 million in prize-money was forfeited.

Matchmaker makes impressive debutPromising two-year-old Matchmaker (Makfi)

got her career off to the best possible start when

she raced away to an impressive victory at

Riccarton yesterday. The filly took on her age-

group rivals off the back of an eye-catching trial

win at Rangiora last week which saw her heavily

supported in the 1000-metre dash on the Heavy

10 surface. She didn’t let her backers down, as

she settled nicely in midfield before easing into

a challenging position approaching the home

bend and then bolted clear to win, easing down

by three lengths. Co-trainer Nick Wigley, who

prepares Matchmaker with Kayla Milnes, had

been expecting a good performance from the

filly who he believes has the potential to go a lot

further. “She’s a big strong filly who has always

shown us plenty,” Wigley said. “I’m just pleased to

see her get through the heavy going.”

Major Tom on target for Winter CupMajor Tom (Red Giant) cemented his bid for

the Winter Cup (Gr 3, 1600m) at Riccarton next

month when he scored handsomely over 1400

metres at Avondale yesterday. Co-trainer Kenny

with daughter Krystal Williams-Tuhoro said: “It

was a very good win although I would have been

just as happy for him to finish second or third as

long as he was closing off strongly. He was on

trial for a trip south for the Winter Cup and I can

confirm that he is 110 per cent going now. I’m just

hoping he doesn’t get too much of a penalty for

the win.”

Tiley continues red-hot run with Avondale four-timerNigel Tiley continued his fine run of form when

he saddled four winners at Avondale yesterday.

Tiley and his apprentice Callum Jones, who have

combined for six wins in the past month, kicked

the day off in fine style when Now Is Now (Battle

Paint) produced a powerful finishing burst to

register her first victory in the opener. Three races

later Macushla (Dalghar) made it back-to-back

wins when she overcame a wide run to dash clear

for a comfortable four-length triumph. However, it

was the win by Demonetization (All Too Hard) that

left Tiley with an immense sense of satisfaction as

the talented but injury-plagued galloper registered

his first win in over 18 months. “It was great to see

him back as he is a good horse,” Tiley said. “We’ve

had so many problems with him and when we took

him to Brisbane last year, he got very sick and we

nearly lost him. His owner has just been fantastic

and very patient, which was rewarded today.”

Tiley rounded out the day with a win for Rhuzick

(Zed) who charged home down the outside rail to

register her maiden victory at her third start.

Kamaruddin lands first winnerTe Akau apprentice Joe Kamaruddin rode the

first winner of his career when the seven-year-

old gelding Al Haram (Sea The Stars) struck at

Avondale yesterday. However, the Malaysian-

born apprentice had to survive a protest lodged

by connections of the runner-up Windy Height

(Electronic Zone) and was suspended for three

days for shifting in when Insufficiently clear of

Magnanimous Man (Nom Du Jeu).

13 for Wootton BassettGroup 1 winner Wootton Bassett (Iffraaj)

sired his 13th individual stakes winner when

Chindit (2 c Always A Dream by Oasis Dream)

followed up his eye-catching Doncaster debut

win with an equalling promising performance

to land the Pat Eddery Stakes (Listed, 7f) at

Ascot yesterday. The Richard Hannon-trained

juvenile quickened nicely under Pat Dobbs to

score by a length and three-quarters and earn

quotes of 25-1 for next year’s 2,000 Guineas (Gr

1, 1m). Cobh (Kodi Bear) kept on for second

spot, a length and a half in front of favourite

Naval Crown (Dubawi). Chindit is the first foal

out of the winning Oasis Dream (Green Desert)

mare Always A Dream, who herself is out of

Always Remembered (Galileo), a half-sister to

Epsom Derby (Gr 1, 1m 4f) winner Motivator

(Montjeu). Wootton Bassett stood at Haras

d'Etreham in France alongside his Group1-

winning son Almanzor for a fee of €40,000 in

2020.

16 for DynastyThe late Dynasty (Fort Wood) sired another

winner of the Durban July (Gr 1, 2200m) and

victory by the favourite Belgarion (4 g ex Riva

by Acatenango) in yesterday’s Greyville feature

provided him with his 16th individual victor

at the highest level. Trained by Justin Snaith,

Belgarion was winning for the seventh time

in ten starts and registering his fourth stakes

success, when beating Got The Greenlight

(Gimmethegreenlight) and Do It Again (Twice

Over). Multiple Group 1 winner Dynasty died

last year at Ridgemont Highlands, where he had

stood since 2005, at the age of 19. A four-time

Group 1 winner himself, Dynasty was named

Equus outstanding sire in 2010, 2014, 2015 and

2017.

Kastasa picks up the winning threadKastasa (Rock Of Gibraltar) started this season

the way she ended last by winning a stakes race,

as she posted her fifth successive victory when

staying on to take out the Vintage Tipple Stakes

(Listed, 1m 6f) at Gowran Park yesterday. The

Dermot Weld-trained four-year-old beat Nan

Yehi (Camelot) by three-quarters of a length,

with Traisha (Invincible Spirit) another length

away in third.

Aspetar comes out on top in York shockAspetar (Al Kazeem) lowered the colours of

his much more fancied rivals in convincing

fashion when coming out on top in a running of

yesterday’s York Stakes (Gr 2, 1m2½f) in which

all the big guns blew out. The Roger Charlton-

trained five-year-old built on the promise of his

recent return at Sandown with a length and a half

win at odds of 11-1. Fox Chairman (Kingman)

finished second at 8-1, with 16-1 chance Lord

Glitters (Whipper) another half a length away

in third. Favourite Elarqam (Frankel) dropped

away tamely to finish sixth of the seven runners.

The winner’s effort impressed the bookmakers

who gave him quotes of 8-1 for next month’s

Juddmonte International Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2½f).

This was a fourth stakes win for Aspetar, whose

finest hour came when bagging a Group 1 contest

in Germany last year.

Reliable Man’s Akribe claims third stakes successAkribie (Reliable Man) added a third stakes

success to her CV yesterday at Hannover when

taking out the Grosser Preis Von Rossmann

(Listed, 2200m) for Markus Klug and owner

breeder Gestut Rottgen. The four-year-old got

the better of Arktis (Jukebox Jury) by half a

length while Candy Crush (Lord Of England)

returned third of the eight runners, a further

length and three-quarters away. Runner-up on

her last two starts in Listed company, Akribie

has now won four of her 13 starts, including last

year’s Diana Trial (Gr 3, 2000m). She is one of

13 stakes winners for Reliable Man (Dalakhani)

who stands at Westbury Stud where his 2020 fee

will be NZ$15,000 (+ GST).

Six for Duke Of MarmaladeTemple Grafin (4 m ex Inner Temple by Greys

Inn) sprung a surprise and became the sixth

Group 1 winner for her sire Duke Of Marmalade

(Danehill) when taking out the Garden Province

Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Greyville yesterday. Sent

off at 40-1, the mare got the better of last year’s

winner and favourite Celtic Sea (Captain Al) by

three-quarters of a length while Pretty Young

Thing (Jackson) was only a head away in third.

A dual Group 3 winner, Temple Grafin also ran

third in the Majorca Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) in

February and fourth in this race last year, while

she has now won four times from 17 starts.

Former Coolmore stallion Duke Of Marmalade

stands at Drakenstein Stud in South Africa for a

fee of R25,000.

Nine for American PharoahCoolmore shuttler American Pharoah

(Pioneerof The Nile) sired his ninth stakes

winner on Friday when Turned Aside (3 c ex

Sustained by War Front) took out the Quick

Call Stakes (Gr 3, 5.5f) at Saratoga. The Linda

Rice-trained colt defeated Old Chestnut

(Speightstown) by a length and three-quarters

with a neck back to Fore Left (Twirling Candy)

in third. Turned Aside is the only named foal

out of Grade 3 placed mare Sustained (War

Front), while he is also related to multiple

stakes winner Good And Tough (Carson City).

US Triple Crown winner American Pharoah

stands at Jerrys Plains for a fee of $55,000 (inc

GST) in 2020.

Regally bred Frankel colt off to perfect startDhahabi (Frankel), Godolphin’s 3,100,000gns

purchase from the 2019 Tattersalls October

Yearling Sale, showed early promise with a

debut victory over seven furlongs at Newmarket

yesterday. The colt, who is by Frankel (Galileo)

and a half-brother to Epsom Derby (Gr 1, 1m

4f) winner Golden Horn (Cape Cross), was the

second most expensive yearling to pass through

a sales ring in Britain in 2019. Despite missing

the start, the Charlie Appleby-trained juvenile

moved up on the outside and was always doing

enough to hold on for victory by a neck to Dinoo

(Starspangledbanner). Frankel saw a second

juvenile claim a debut victory yesterday, as

Zabeel Queen won impressively in the two-year-

old fillies event at Ascot, defeating fellow Frankel

juvenile Snow Lantern by one and a quarter

lengths. Frankel is available to cover mares

on southern hemisphere time at Juddmonte’s

Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket and his

Australian-bred offspring include Group 2 winner

Miss Fabulass.

BY PAUL EACOTT | @ANZ_NEWS

The Queen may have missed her

regular visit to Ascot last month,

but the queen of the turf lit up the

royal racecourse yesterday when

Enable (Nathaniel) registered a history-making

win in the King George and Queen Elizabeth

Stakes (Gr 1, 1m 4f).

In beating Sovereign (Galileo) by a cosy

five and a half lengths, Enable became the first

horse in the 69-year history of the race to win it

three times, took her own personal tally to 11

successes at the highest level and saw her prize-

money close in on the £11 million mark.

"She's unbelievable," said Frankie Dettori,

who was winning the race for a seventh time,

taking him level with the legendary Lester

Piggott as the King George’s winning-most

rider. “I love her so much. My favourite girl!"

As expected Sovereign took up the role of

hare under William Buick, with Dettori aboard

4-9 favourite Enable, and Ryan Moore on Japan

(Galileo), happy to bide their time half a dozen

lengths or so away.

Turning for home Buick was soon hard at

work on board last year’s Irish Derby (Gr 1, 1m

4f) winner, with Dettori, in the rain sodden silks

of Juddmonte Farms, still to play his hand.

Cruising to the front, the three-time

champion jockey looked around for the

expected challenge of Japan, only to find

Moore’s mount toiling. At that point it was all

over as a contest and the John Gosden-trained

six-year-old strolled clear to win with goodness

knows how much in hand.

"John has done an unbelievable job to

keep her going,” Dettori added in the post-

race celebrations. “Three King George's has

never been done before, and now we'll try the

impossible and go for three Arcs.”

A third victory in the Prix de l’Arc de

Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) may have proved

beyond Enable when she finished second

behind Waldgeist (Galileo) in the Longchamp

showpiece last season, but the bookmakers

expect her to right that wrong this time round,

cutting her to 5-2 favourite for Paris in October.

While the ease of Enable’s success may have

shocked onlookers, Gosden, who was winning

the race for the fifth time, was not among that

number.

"She's really trained beautifully for this race

and is back in top order, there's no doubt about

that.” he said. “We've been thrilled with her at

home. I was expecting to see that but life can be

full of disappointment.

"I remember great horses like Swain and

Dahlia, those who won it twice, so to come back

from injury and win it three times and do it as

a three, five and six-year-old, she's some race

mare."

Enable’s sire Nathaniel (Galileo), himself a

King George winner for Gosden when triumphant

in the race back in 2011 as a three-year-old, stood

at Newsells Park for a fee of £25,000 in 2020.

BY TOM PEACOCK OF THE RACING POST

Disruption to this breeze-up sales

season from all directions has

failed to alter the appetite for

ready-to-run prospects and the

trend continued as the swing drew to a close in

Newmarket.

The Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Sale

tends to be more bread-and-butter than

five-star fare and, after deciding to shift an

already postponed event across from its usual

home at Fairyhouse only a fortnight ago to

circumnavigate potential travel disruption for

clients, the executive might have harboured

hopes for a respectable clearance rate as much

as anything.

A top lot of £220,000 for a daughter of

Kitten’s Joy (El Prado) comfortably exceeded

last year's highest figure and competition for

three other six-figure purchases were further

evidence of a market which has cocked a snook

at what were admittedly low expectations.

Lot 74 represented a fabulous turnaround

for Brendan Holland of Grove Stud, who had

selected her for just US$27,000 at Keeneland

last September. Her dam, the Chester House

(Mr Prospector) mare Desertstormelite, was

quite useful in the US and has shown some flair

from the paddocks.

It was Jamie Spencer, only just back in the

competitive action after a broken hip, who saw

off agent Alex Elliott to see the deal, although

the jockey confessed he was jobbing on behalf

of trainer David Simcock and an existing client.

The combination had earlier secured

Knockgraffon Stables' impressive-breezing

Free Eagle (High Chaparral) colt (Lot 17) for

£82,000.

Holland said of the Kitten's Joy: "I bought

her off my pals at Hunter Valley. I saw her

when I went over last year, thankfully they sold

her to me. She has done really well, she's a

lovely, lovely filly, she has loads of quality. I'm

delighted, it's a great result."

The consignor was happy to draw stumps

on the show for 2020, although he will soon be

back at the crease.

"Personally we have done fine," he said.

"Most consignors are relieved it is all over and

everyone is still in the game, I'd say. I look

forward to relaxing and watching Goodwood

next week, but we've got yearlings in and are

starting to prep them."

Simcock is set to receive another big

pinhooking success story as Richard Brown

of Blandford Bloodstock was stood alongside

the Newmarket handler when snapping up a

£140,000 Dialed In (Mineshaft) colt (Lot 244).

Named Onesmoothoperator, he was bought

by Ger and Yvonne Kennedy of Sherbourne

Lodge for just US$5,000 at Fasig-Tipton and left

as the day's third top lot.

Walsh on the podiumThe Kitten’s Joy filly was knocking a Night

Of Thunder (Dubawi) colt (Lot 26) from Katie

Walsh’s Greenhills Farm draft off the top of the

table.

Mark McStay of Avenue Bloodstock had

been successful with an offer of £160,000 for

the first progeny of the unraced Fastnet Rock

(Danehill) mare Kymera.

He is rich in heritage further down his page as

his third dam, Saganeca (Sagace), produced the

likes of Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m)

hero Sagamix (Linamix) and Newsells Park’s blue

hen Shastye (Danehill), but it was the en-vogue

Night Of Thunder which was the pull.

"The sire speaks for himself, he's doing

fantastic things," said McStay.

"This horse did an exceptional breeze, he

vetted particularly well and was well presented

by Katie. I'm delighted to get a Night Of Thunder,

they're only going to get more expensive as the

year goes on.

"He's for an existing client, goes to Ireland

and probably to John Oxx."

Walsh explained that the colt was

representing a familiar face.

"Micheal Ryan of Al Eile Stud bred him,"

she said. "They didn't go to a yearling sale and

decided they would go to the breeze-ups. My

father (Ted) trains for Michael Ryan, Micheal's

father, so there's that association.

"When they asked if I would take this horse

to breeze, I said 'absolutely, no problem'. The

sire is on fire and he breezed really well."

Walsh had received the colt in the middle

of January and the delay of this event since late

May had not been a concern.

"He's an April 6 foal and the breeders

wanted to give him every chance - he is tall,

scopey and rangy and so this Goresbridge sale

was always the plan.

"Personally, I was delighted to see the sale

moved to here, you need the British clientele

and the British-based clients, this is where they

are. It is apparent when you go into the sale

ring."

Walsh's day was not even done, as she

also prepared a Lope De Vega (Shamardal)

colt (Lot 172) from the family of classy French

performers Corre Caminos (Montjeu) and

Racinger (Spectrum) for £100,000.

He was bought by Peter Nolan on behalf

of a new client and is heading to Ireland along

with several others from the sale.

"It's not been an ideal year for everyone,

but trade has been really good and everyone's

getting them sold, that's the main thing," said

Walsh. "We can all go back shopping in a couple

of weeks now, and that's what it's all about, it's

been a short turnaround for everyone."

Prices hold upFinal figures were a little like comparing

apples with oranges, or pounds and euros, to

be precise, at least before conversion.

A total of 125 from 147 lots were sold at a

clearance rate of 84 per cent, a little down on

the 91 per cent of 14 months earlier, and for an

aggregate of €3,800,006.

An average of €30,894 was up 10 per cent

from €27,992, while the median of €21,978 was

an impressive improvement of 22 per cent.

At the conclusion of the sale, Tattersalls

Ireland director Simon Kerins commented:

"Firstly, I would like to thank the vendors who

have risen to the challenge of today's sale being

relocated to Park Paddocks at the 11th hour!

"Like many in the bloodstock industry,

the breeze-up consignors have had to deal

with difficult circumstances in the run up to

the season, notably with today's sale original

dated in May, and they have met the change

in date and venue with tremendous positivity

and it was pleasing to see several vendors have

excellent results.

"The bloodstock industry is truly resilient,

and this was evident today by the strong

demand for the choice lots. It was immensely

satisfying to sell the second highest price ever

for a two-year-old at the Goresbridge Breeze-

Up Sale with Grove Stud's Kitten's Joy filly

selling for £220,000 to David Simcock."

He added: "There were considerable

increases in the average of £27,284 and median

of £20,000 considering that the numbers offered

were down significantly on 2019, while the high

clearance rate of 85 per cent also needs to be

acknowledged.

"We can now look forward to the Tattersalls

Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-Up Sale returning

to Fairyhouse Racecourse and Tattersalls

Ireland respectively in 2021.

“The Tattersalls Ireland team look with

positivity to hosting our Derby Sale and May

Store Sale on the 18 to 20 August, followed

by the August NH Sale on 27 to 28 August in

Ireland."

Analysis: Consistent Godolphin-raced sprinter Viridine took his record to eight wins from 29 starts in registering his fifth stakes victory here, aided by a very good Damien Oliver ride. After settling in sixth place on the rails, he improved along the inner to be just behind the leaders at the turn. Oliver then steered him along the rails to hit the front at the 100m and he then fought back to win well. Streets Of Avalon had a nice trip in third place, just behind the leaders. He moved up well on turning for home, challenged strongly nearing the 100m and then fought really well for second in a smart first-up run. Great Again shared the lead, racing on the rails, but was pressured on his outer (by Jungle Edge). He got a break on straightening and then battled back gamely after his early efforts for third. Sansom raced in fifth place, one off the rails, moved up at 200m and kept fighting on well for fourth with She Shao Fly making good ground, after being second last into the straight, to finish (2.6 lengths) fifth. After leading early on from his inside barrier (1), he eased to track the new leader (Majinika) before going to the front at the 300m. He then safely held off his opposition to win impressively. Lockroy settled in fourth place on the rails, got through to be in a challenging position at the 200m and then fought well for second. Multiverse settled midfield but trapped wide. He moved up (deep) coming to the turn and did well in fighting on to take third in a photo from Cup Night who was beyond midfield on the rails before getting a split in the straight and then fighting on nicely for fourth. Analysis: Parlophone followed her very smart first-up performance at Sandown-Hillside on June 24 when she stormed home to win in a Two-Year-Old Fillies’ Handicap (1000m) with another impressive victory, advancing to stakes class here. She again settled back in the field and was eighth (between runners) in a packed field before improving (wide out) rounding the turn. She then sprinted well, hit the front at the 100m and then drew clear to score by three lengths. Three-year-old gelding Streetcar Stranger went back from his wide barrier (11), settled in last place, improved along the inner coming to the turn, got through to challenge at the 200m and kept battling well on to take second in a photo. Three-year-old filly Just Zerene, who had enjoyed a good trip in fifth place on the rails from her inside barrier (1), continued through on the rails to take the lead on straightening. She then kept fighting on quite well for third after appearing to have had every chance. Flostar raced in fifth place, between runners, got into clear running on turning for home and then fought on for (3.6 lengths) fourth. Knowles made ground from last at the 600m after gaining a split at the turn for (4.2 lengths) fifth while the winner’s stablemate Euphoric Summer had a wide trip back in tenth place and ran on well, when clear late, for (4.7 lengths) sixth. Then followed: Order Again (NZ), Dealmaker (AUS), Special Missile (AUS), Girl Tuesday (AUS), Grey Lion (IRE), Invictus Prince (GB) & Noble Boy (AUS), last.

Analysis: Irish-bred import Mugatoo, who was unbeaten in his first three Australian runs last preparation, which included a victory in the Canberra Cup (Listed, 2000m) in March, staged a smart first-up performance in winning here. He was ridden patiently by Hugh Bowman and after settling at the tail of the field, improved nicely (wide with cover) nearing the turn. He then finished solidly, wide out in the straight, proving too strong over the latter stages to win well, and at a distance short of his best. Sambro raced in fifth place on the rails, improved between runners at the turn, challenged at the 200m and then fought well for second. Taikomochi went to the front as expected, set quite a reasonable tempo and held on well under his top weight (59kg) to take the minor placing in a photo in a sound first-up effort. Order Again settled towards the rear, improved (wide) from the 600m, moved up at the 200m and then kept battling on well for (2.2 lengths) fourth. [KB]

VERDICT A race that’s been upgrade to Group 3 status this year. The twosuggestions against the field are the John Gosden-trained 3yos

SHIMMERING and Love And Thunder in that order of preference. They aresimilar types who remain open to further improvement. Billesdon Brook appears tohave a good chance at the weights but her three best performances have come atNewmarket. The weather is a big factor for Agincourt, who needs it to stay dry, andMiss O Connor, who ideally needs a downpour.[Steve Boow]

back up their Queen Mary and Duchess Of Cambridge efforts. Queen Mary flopMore Beautiful remains capable of better but ISABELLA GILES is a tempting betat bigger odds. The Clive Cox-trained filly is two from two and has Group 3 potentialif taking after her dam.[Steve Boow]

BETTING FORECAST: EvensiBarney Roy, 3iPatrick Sarsfield, 7iDurance,15-2iQuest The Moon, 9iSpotify, 25iNaida, 33iWai Key Star.

VERDICT While unlikely to represent anything in the way of value,BARNEY ROY would seem the most probable winner of a

top-flight event. He has posted plenty of good performances since being gelded andeasily won a 1m1f Group 1 at Meydan in March, when stable companion Spotifycame home third. His third in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes when last seen reads wellcompared to a lot of form on offer here, so has leading claims in this company.

Patrick Sarsfield has taken a significant step forward since a geldingoperation, having won a 1m1f handicap at the end of June off an official mark of 86.He beat a solid Listed-class performer when making a successful step up to Group 3company just over two weeks ago, so he is at least very much at the top of his form. The slight niggle with him, apart from the hike in grade, is that his recent hat-trickwas achieved in a fairly short space of time, meaning a fresher type could take hismeasure here. Adrie De Vries rides for the time.

The home defence is led by Durance and Quest The Moon, who have meteach other on their last two starts, taking it in turns to finish in front of each other inGroup 2s. The horse that finished between them at San Siro is a talented sort, buthas since been beaten, albeit not far, in a Listed event a few days ago at Vichy, suggesting that form may not be strong. Both are consistent, and the filly gets a 3lballowance, but both would probably need a career-best to beat the selection if he rananywhere near his peak.

It won’t be a huge shock if the aforementioned Spotify can get into contentionfor a place for all that he’s pretty exposed. [David Toft]
