NURTURING SKILLS AND BUILDING CONFIDENCE IN THE WATERFor more than 150 years, the Y’s goal has been to strengthen the whole person – spirit, mind and body. One of the most effective ways to accomplish this is to teach youth, teens and adults to swim. And, in the land of 10,000 lakes, it’s one of the most important offerings on the list. Swim lessons provide you and your child with new-found confi-dence. They learn skills which could save a life, and will last for lifetime. We’re committed to keeping class sizes small so swimmers get the expert, personal attention they need to succeed. Y instructors have a minimum of 40 hours of training including CPR, AED, First Aid and Oxygen Administration and are nationally certified to build your child’s swim skills and comfort level in the water. Every 7 weeks over 5000 youth, teens and adults choose the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities to learn this lifelong skill. And now you can count on Y expertise for a high-quality learning experience through The YMCA Swim Academy at Maplewood Community Center.

WE’RE HERE FOR EVERYONEAll ages – from infants to seniors – can be a part of Y Swim Academy. We offer expansive day, evening and weekend class schedules offered 7 days a week to fit your family’s busy life.

PARENT/CHILD AQUATIC PROGRAM — AGES 6-36 moThe Y Swim Academy’s Parent/Child classes focus on specific swim skills for infants and toddlers in a safe and fun atmosphere. Along with parents, Y certified instructors build a foundation of aquatic abilities for each child. The three Parent/Child swim levels have integrated, progressive curriculum based on research in child development and aquatic programming to ensure consistency, safety and quality of instruction.

WATER ADJUSTMENT LESSONS — AGES 3-7Classes for the new swimmer who may be apprehensive in the water, or who has never had swim lessons. We offer small class sizes to provide more one-on-one support and attention to the students’ needs.

BEGINNER LESSONS — AGES 3-12Preschool and Youth classes for swimmers comfortable in the water and ready to develop basic swim skills: 4 swimmers per class.

INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED LESSONS — AGES 5-12Youth classes for students prepared to refine swim skills: 6 swimmers per class.

How can I support Maplewood Parks & Rec?

Adopt - A- ParkThe goal of the Adopt-A-Park Program is to provide an opportunity for interested parties to take part in maintaining our park system. By providing this opportunity it not only encourages and promotes community involvement but also allows us to beautify and improve our parks. All Adopt-A-Park projects should aim towards benefiting the majority of park users. This opportunity is available to any individual, family, resident, group organization, or business who is eager to help beautify our parks. The Adopt-A-Park commitment period is between April 1 – October 31. Applications are accepted throughout the year and require a minimum of once a month dedication. For more information email [email protected] or call 651.249.2125.

Adult Athletic Sign SponsorshipThe adult athletic sign sponsorship is a unique marketing opportunity for local businesses. Maplewood Parks & Recreation has started an outfield sign program at Veteran’s Memorial Park (formerly Goodrich). This is an opportunity to purchase one, two, or three 4’ x 8’ outfield signs that are visible from the softball fields, as well as North St. Paul Road. Veteran’s Memorials houses the entire adult softball program (summer, fall and late fall leagues) and hosts multiple youth tournaments throughout the season. The funds from these sponsorships will go directly to maintaining and upgrading this facility keeping the fields suitable for the high level of play they receive. For more information email [email protected] or call 651.249.2121.

Round Up For RecreationHelp Maplewood Youth Participate in Maplewood Recreation! Maplewood Parks & Recreation serves approximately 6,000 youth through our classes, programs, and youth sports leagues. How can you help? Say YES! and we will round up your admission fee at the Maplewood Community Center to the next dollar. The proceeds will go directly to the Maplewood Youth Scholarship Fund to support families who would otherwise be unable to participate in our youth classes and programs. For more information email [email protected] or call 651.249.2125.

Youth Scholarship FundThe Youth Scholarship Fund serves Maplewood residents (under 18 years) who demonstrate a financial need and may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in recreation programs. Qualifying families are asked to pay 1/3 of the program fee and the scholarship fund covers the remaining 2/3 of the fee. Sponsorship of our scholarship program is a great way to show your support for Maplewood Parks & Recreation and the community. Your contribution will make a huge difference in the lives of our participants and enable them to build a positive and healthy lifestyle through recreational programming. Please consider making a donation to the scholarship program and making “wellness, arts, and fun for everyone” a reality for our Maplewood youth. For more information email [email protected] or call 651.249.2120.
