PVPS-2020-04 23rd January 2020 Dear Parents/Guardians, A [All] Assessment Matters 2020 (Ms Veronica Poon, HOD/Science) Assessment is integral to teaching and learning. It provides useful information to the teachers, your child and you in the learning process. Teachers use a range of assessment strategies such as questioning and giving feedback, peer and self-assessment to support the holistic development of our students. Bite-size assessments; e.g., Topical tests, reading and performance tasks are deployed to support your child’s learning experiences to build motivation in learning. A range of formative and summative assessments are adopted as follows:

P1 to P2: From 2019, P1 and P2 students will have non-weighted Holistic Assessment (HA). Subject

specific Learning Outcomes (LOs) and qualitative descriptors will be used to report their learning progress.

P3: P3 students will have various Holistic Assessment (HA) in Term 1 and Term 3 as well as Semestral Assessment (SA) at the end of Term 4. Do note that there is no mid-year SA in Term 2.

P4 to P5: Similar to P3, P4 and P5 students will have various Holistic Assessment (HA) in Term 1 and Term 3 as well as Semestral Assessment (SA) at the end of Term 2 and Term 4

P6: P6 students will have Continual Assessment (CA) in Term 1, Semestral Assessment (SA) in Term 2 and Preliminary Examinations (Prelims) in Term 3 in preparation for PSLE.

Attached are the ‘Assessment Weighting’ of various subjects in 2020 and Term 1 Assessment Overview for the different levels. We hope these information will better support you to guide your child in his learning. C (All) Total Defence Day Recess Activities (Mr Kang Yong Ngee, Teacher-in-charge) Every year, our school commemorates Total Defence Day to remind our students that Singapore is defensible and is worth defending, and we ourselves must defend Singapore. During the commemoration, the school has planned activities to create awareness on the 6 pillars of defence and how students themselves can play a part in each aspect. Students who are not ready to handle the intellectual rigour and demands of the progamme will struggle with the enriched curriculum and not benefit fully from it.
