Changes to Park Rulesin order to consider and address the concerns of residents on an ongoing basis, mayor Koblenz and the Board of Trustees established the park Rules Review Committee. The committee is Chaired by donna Liebowitz and members include: Rebecca altman, odellia Fischer, Jeff Glennon, Lynne Kanner, adam Lustig, natalie mansbach (Recording secretary), eric meyer, Brian meyerson, Jill perlman, walter Reed and samantha sohmer. The committee meets regularly to discuss, analyze and vote on recommendations submitted by residents, and to propose and vote on new changes, ideas or programs. These changes and recommendations are then proposed to the Board and if accepted, are incorporated into the park Rules statute. all residents have the benefit of reviewing the park Rules statute, as it is updated, on the village website at www.villageofeasthills.org.

Recent Changes to the Park Rules include: 7 nanny card fees were increased

to $150 for the calendar year from $125.

7 Grandparent Cards were reduced to $125 per couple from $150 and are now annual cards instead of seasonal to encourage greater use of this program. The access rights for these cards have been expanded. The new rules

allow use from memorial day weekend through Labor day that grandparents can access the park monday through Friday. The remainder of the year grandparents can have access to the park 7 days a week. in the past, the card was valid from april through the end of october monday through Thursday only.

7 a senior resident’s partner, who is under 62 years of age will enjoy

the same privileges as the senior when accompanied by the senior. This is limited to one partner or significant other per summer and that person must be registered with the park office.

7 all snow sledders must wear a helmet. sledding in the park is prohibited in all areas other than snow mountain. Children under 13 (formerly under 15) must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

7 Children under 15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times while in the Bark park.

7 village Lounge, meeting Room and Court Room rules were all added and the name of the senior Lounge was changed to village Lounge due to the diverse usage by all residents.

Thanks to Rallye motors, we are planning the biggest and best fireworks display ever for July 4th. Residents and guests will gather at the park, to celebrate our nation’s independence, by enjoying dinner and dessert as a community before sunset. once it’s dark, the sky above east hills will be lit up with extravagant, colorful displays that are guaranteed to take your breath away. The rain date for this event is July 6th, but we are counting on a beautiful night for this very special annual tradition in our village. Come early to enjoy food with your neighbors before the fireworks start. we will begin enjoying the evening at 6 pm. The fireworks display will start at 9:15 pm.

Four guest passes will be given to each family who are residents. The passes can be obtained at the park Grille, or weekdays in the park office.

The Senior Activity Committee Taking Great Steps

The senior activity Committee (saC) has been stirring things up in east hills, proving that fun isn’t only for the young!

This winter, the seniors held technology workshops led by students from Roslyn high school, learning invaluable skills with tools like ipads, iphones, and e-mail. as a result of these workshops, east hills remains on the cutting edge in terms of senior engagement with the latest technology. The students gain invaluable experience, while being given the rare opportunity to engage in wonderful, reciprocal learning with the seniors.

“The seniors greatly benefit socially from a sense of community and interaction,” said natalie mansbach, Chair.

other recent highlights include the senior Brunch, where attendees were treated to a full breakfast at tables decorated in the theme of musicals from Broadway’s Golden era, and a performance of songs from hollywood icon Judy Garland’s repertoire by Roslyn resident Lisa Berman.

Super Senior EventThe saC Committee, (senior activity Committee), sponsored another spectacular event on Thursday, June 6th. a BBQ prepared by the park Grille restaurant and entertainment by JC Revue made the evening dynamic. Thanks to the saC, senior residents did not have to go far to participate in an evening with friends or meet new ones, while enjoying sumptuous food and outstanding Broadway music. The evening would not have been possible without the theater and other facilities at the park. The seniors stressed their appreciation to the village staff, led by park director Bill Gavin, who helped to make the event run comfortably and smoothly.

as the seniors enjoyed a buffet of hot dogs, burgers, salads, steak, and chicken, they were totally surprised by the smorgasbord dessert “finale” prepared by Jerry stamatinos.

JC Revue added to the spectac-ular evening by performing pop show tunes, country music and old time favorites. The seniors raved about her performance.

to nuture and care for the plants. This year, the village of east hills launched a new initiative to recognize the outstanding charitable contributions of local youth. Called “The Good deed award,” this program honors students of any age who have made significant contributions to a worthy cause. students can be nominated online via the village of east hills website, and winners are selected periodically throughout the year by the mayor and Board of Trustees.

The winner of the inaugural east hills Good deed award was Zach michaels, a shining example of the kind of philanthropy of which young people are capable. Zach was nominated by his middle school principal, Jack palmadesso, with whom he worked as a member of the principal’s advisory Council.

palmadesso said, “Zach was motivated to act in response to the needs of Long island families in the aftermath of hurricane sandy. he organized a charity football game on Thanksgiving weekend 2012. he recruited participants, created email lists, helped to select a worthy charity, set up fields/teams, helped to collect donations, awarded trophies, and kept notes to plan for future Turkey Bowls. Zach played an important role in getting 40 10th grade boys to participate. The event raised $2,130 for all hands volunteers after being motivated by the effects on the victims of hurricane sandy. it was matched by an anonymous donor for a total donation of $4,260. This event was the largest single student generated fundraiser for this cause.”
