Declutter: From Chaos to Clarity

By Carol Robins

So, how have you been doing with your efforts to declutter? If your goals haven’t been met, don’t beat yourself up. If you talk to five different experts on this subject, chances are that you will get five different ways to approach this issue. It is just a matter of finding out what is the best approach for you.

How do you know when it is time to declutter?

You buy a new item because you can’t find where you have put the old item.

It takes you a long time to look for something important.

Your disorganized life makes you feel like you will never get ahead.

Your lovely things are buried beneath piles of paper or clothes.

You have stopped cooking your favorite dishes because your kitchen feels crowded and cluttered.

You agonize over what to keep and what to throw away.

It is difficult to invite anyone over because you are embarrassed at the appearance of your home.

If the idea of decluttering feels overwhelming, you might want to set a goal of giving away one or two items a day. Before you know it, you will have made major inroads in terms of ridding your home of items that, for one reason or another, you have been holding on to for years and probably will never use.

Maintenance Tip of the Month

WATER CONSERVATION “Please help us to help you”

Park La Brea is keenly aware of the drought and is taking community wide measures to reduce our water consumption. On the landscape watering front, professional consultants have been engaged and they are currently working with our gardeners to evaluate and reset all watering frequencies throughout the property. We are also actively pursuing means to reduce water consumption in our apartment units throughout the property. Over the past 18 months, Park La Brea Management, in compliance with the recommendations of the LADWP, has installed over 7,000 low flow shower heads and replaced / installed thousands of low flow water saving aerators on both kitchen and bathroom faucets. Furthermore, we have installed nearly 3,000 low flow water saving toilets.

Park La Brea is dedicated to being a leader in the water conservation effort.
