Task 1: Next lesson you will need to be able to memorise the key countries and locations on the map below. You may need to download a bigger copy of this.

Task 2: Research and answer the below questions for each of the following empires

Byzantine Empire, Seljuk Turks, Holy Roman Empire, Norman Empire and Norman England

1. Who are the key leaders/what key events have occurred?2. Is it in a position of strength in the 11th Century?3. Does it have any links/relations with the other empires?

Task 3: Next lesson we will be discovering the importance of the city of Jerusalem. To prepare for this you will need to read about, and bring information to the lesson about the following (rather strange sounding) locations.

- The Temple Mount aka Dome of the Rock aka Haram al Sharif

- The Church of the Holy Sepulchre

- The “Wailing Wall”

Why might they be a cause of trouble in Jerusalem and the Middle East?
