THIS N’ THAT
Last weekend, you have heard about the “Discovering Christ” program that we intend to start soon. Please give some thought to signing up. Those who have taken part in the program speak glowingly as to how it has affected their spiritual lives.
*******
If you still need to register for the St. Stephen’s Reli-gious Education program please come into the of-fice. Notice for registration went out over a month ago. Please don’t let the faith formation of your child get left out. Remember sport skills and dance ability will not earn us eternity.
******* Although the weather did not cooperate, those who took part in the Parish Picnic had a great time. A big thank-you goes out to the Knights of Columbus, the members of the Parish Council, all those who volun-teered and those who contributed to the chili and pie contests. Success was measured by the fact that there was hardly much food left over!
*******
Some of the Renew and Rebuild monies have been used to pave the cemetery road. Last week the church pews were cleaned and shampooed profes-sionally; what may have been for the first time. We are still in the process of getting Town/Village ap-provals for the major work planned.
******* There is always a lot of activity going on in St. Stephen’s Parish. Look over the bulletin for upcom-ing events and see if you can be part of all or some of them.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

If you are interested in joining us, or if you know some-one who is interested, please call Deacon Tom at 845-988-6289, or the church office for more information about becoming a candidate.

Ministry Spotlight
Lectors
Being a Lector is more than just being a good reader, although technical skill is very important. Lectors should above all have a deep and genuine love of God’s Word, embracing the Scriptures as part of daily prayer life. When the Sacred Scriptures are read in Church, God himself speaks to his peo-ple; lectors are literally instruments in the service of the Lord, proclaiming God’s very presence with their voices. If you feel the Holy Spirit is calling you to this spe-cial ministry, please call Kathy Weyant at 973-702-1039. On Saturday, October 27, join us for the 9:00 Mass, followed by a morning of reflection and re-commissioning ceremony for ALL lectors. Train-ing will also be offered for any new lectors who are commissioned that day.

LIFE CHAIN is a peaceful and prayerful public wit-ness of pro-life individuals standing for 90 minutes praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. It is a visual statement of solidarity by the Christian community that abortion kills children and that the Church supports the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception until natural death.
