Missionary Disciples in Action/Sunday, Nov.1,2020

Missionaries of Good in TijuanaTh e Misioneros Laicos of Mercy live the commandment of love not only by

willing the good of the other but doing something about it.

Last week’s Gospel reminded all of us Christians of the priority of that love plays in our Christian life. Th e whole sum of the prophets and the law Jesus says, is contained in loving God with our whole being and in loving our neigh-bor as ourselves. St. Th omas Aquinas defi nes the love to our neighbor as “willing the good of the other”. Th e Misioneros Laicos of Mercy are a ministry at St. Mar-cellinus that live this commandment not only by willing the good of the other but doing something about it. Every month they take both physical and spiritual nourishment to the most in need of Tijuana. I had the privilege to accompany them this month on their trip on their trip to a convent in the El Nino area of Tijuana. Upon arrival, there was a long line of people awaiting the much anticipated “misioneros de Los An-geles”, a variety of women, children, grandmothers, men, and adolescents. We began with a warm welcoming, pra-yer and singing praise and worship lead by our very own Alex Mota. As the people began to open their heart, I was struck by the beautiful portrait in front of me, the poorest of the poor who were there because they lacked food, clo-thes and essential services but yet were lift ing their hands in praise to God. Here I was reminded of Jesus’ words that encourage us not to worry about material possessions but only worry about the Kingdom of God and our righteous-ness with God and all this will be given to us. I saw this being lived out before my eyes. We then proceeded with a Liturgy of the Word where I was able to proclaim the love of God and share a message with the people.

Th e message was simple, God loves you and there is nothing you can do to change that, we because of our own fallenness stray away from God, but Jesus comes down from Heaven to show us the way and to enact our salvation through His death and resurrection. Th is is the most basic, most beautiful and at the same time most powerful message of our faith, the Kerygma that Paul and the fi rst Apostles proclaimed and by which the Church grew by. I was touched to see so many of God’s children opening their heart to God’s graces that He off ers. We ended the day by sharing the physical gift s, food, clothes, and toys for the children. Th e day ended by a communal prayer with all those that were part of the team, thanking the Lord for all He had done that day. We too here at St. Marcellinus pray in gratitude to our Lord for the gift of the misioneros laicos who continue the work of Jesus here and now.

Discipulos misioneros en Accion/Domingo 1 de Noviembre de 2020

Sirviendo a los más pobres de TijuanaMisioneros de la Misericordia y miembros del grupo de jóvenes adultos lleva-

ron comida y ropa a los más pobres de la frontera sur.El Evangelio de la semana pasada nos recordó a todos los cristianos la prioridad y el role del amor en nuestra vida cristiana. El resumen de los profetas y la ley de Jesús está contenida en amar a Dios con todo nuestro ser y en amar al prójimo como a nosotros mismos. Santo Tomás de Aquino defi ne el amor al prójimo como “querer el bien del otro”. Los Misioneros Laicos son un ministerio de San Marcelino cuyos miembros viven este mandamiento no solo queriendo el bien del otro sino haciendo algo al respecto. Todos los meses llevan alimento físico y espiritual a los más necesitados de Tijuana.El escritor de este testimonio tuvo el placer de acompa-ñar a este ministerio en su viaje de este mes al convento ubicado en la zona de El Niño de Tijuana. Cuando llegamos al lugar, había una larga fi la de perso-nas esperando a los tan esperados “misioneros de Los Ángeles”. Muchas mujeres, niños, abuelas, hombres y adolescentes esperaban ansiosos. Comenzamos con una cálida bien-venida, una oración y un canto de alabanza y adoración dirigida por uno de los pianistas y cantores de San Mar-celino, Alex Mota.

Cuando la gente comenzó a abrir su corazón, me lla-mó la atención el hermoso gesto que tenía frente a mí: los más pobres de los pobres que estaban allí porque no tenían comida, ropa y servicios esenciales, pero que sin embargo levantaban sus manos en alabanza a Dios. Aquí recordé las palabras de Jesús que nos animan a no preocuparnos por las posesiones mate-riales, sino solo por el Reino de Dios y su justicia, ya que todo lo demás nos será dado. Tuve este pasaje de la Biblia escenifi cado ante mis ojos. Luego procedimos con una Liturgia de la Palabra donde pude proclamar el amor de Dios y compartir un mensaje con la gente. El mensaje era simple, Dios te ama y no hay nada que puedas hacer para cambiar eso.Les recordé que nosotros debido a nuestra propia caída nos alejamos de Dios, pero Jesús desciende del cielo para mostrarnos el camino y promulgar nuestra salvación a través de Su muerte y Resurrección. Este es el mensaje más básico, más hermoso y al mis-mo tiempo más poderoso de nuestra fe, el Kerigma que proclamaron Pablo y los primeros apóstoles y por el cual la Iglesia creció. Me conmovió ver a tantos hi-jos de Dios abrir su corazón a las gracias de Dios que Él ofrece. Terminamos el día compartiendo los regalos físicos, la comida, la ropa y los juguetes para los niños. El día terminó con una oración comunitaria con todos los que formaban parte del equipo, agradeciendo al Señor por todo lo que había hecho ese día. Nosotros también aquí en San Marcelino oramos en agradecimiento a nuestro Señor por el don de los misioneros laicos que continúan la obra de Jesús aquí y ahora.
