Our Ministry will be celebrating Christmas with needy families on Sunday Dec. 16 in the Parish Center (Gym). Families who are registered with the Pantry will receive donated gifts and a Turkey dinner. This weekend, Dec. 1-2, we are distributing gift bags after all the masses with suggestions for Christmas toy donations for the children who will attend our celebration. Donated gifts may be returned next weekend Dec. 8-9 prior to any of the masses or to the Parish office anytime before Saturday Dec. 15. Also in addition to gifts, we are encouraging our parish community to consider donating turkeys for our party. Turkeys may be dropped off at the Pantry on Saturday Dec. 15 from 9:00 AM to 1:00PM or on Sunday Dec.16 from 8:00AM to 11:00AM. Watch for more information in future bulletins and please prayerfully consider making a gift donation.
24 HOUR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Eucharistic Adoration is the first Monday of the month. The next Adoration is scheduled in the Basilica for December 3rd Adoration will begin immediately after the 8:30AM Mass and continues to the 8:30AM Mass the next day.

MASSES FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF
THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
Saturday, December 8th, is the Solemnity of the Immaculate
Conception, patroness of the United States.
It is a holy day of obligation. There will be two masses in observance of the Solemnity
in the Basilica. In addition to the normal 7:00 AM Mass there will be a special Mass
celebrated at 10:00AM. Since this day is the 200th Anniversary of the earthquake that
destroyed the great Stone Church with the tragic death of 40 members of the Juaneño community, this Mass will have representa-tives of our Native American community present to mark this important anniver-
sary. Fr. Jim Nieblas, a member of the Na-tive American community, will be the cele-
brant. All are invited to this special celebra-tion in honor of Our Lady.

On December 22, 2012 at 2:00 in the afternoon, the Basilica Mixed Ensemble, with the period instrument orchestra, Les Sauvages Américains, will perform the Christmas portions of the Handel’s famous oratorio Messiah. Our goal is to present this program as a free holiday concert to the Basilica parish and the San Juan Capistrano community. To ac-complish this task we would like to have you consider adopting an instrument or soloist for the concert. A tax deductible donation of $250 can be contributed individually or a group of supporters can adopt an individual instrument. As a contributor you will receive the following:

PREGUNTA DE REFLEXION DE LA SEMANA
Declaración de la Parroquia de la Misión
MENASJE DE LA SEMANA: Hoy iniciamos el NUEVO AÑO LITÚRGICO. Y esto supone algo muy especial para un grupo de creyentes: nos disponemos a vivir, celebrar y alimentarnos -a lo largo de los próximos meses-, de esa Historia de amor de Dios, de su “historia de salvación” para con nosotros. Esto es lo que la Comunidad Cristiana celebra en la liturgia. ¡Cuántas veces podemos olvidar este punto de partida y... entonces, todo es aburrido en nuestras celebraciones! El primer momento clave de esa historia de amor de Dios es la Presencia de Alguien; es el nacimiento de Alguien esperado y deseado; Alguien que dé espe-ranza a ese hombre en tensión, en búsqueda, deseando encontrar un sentido a su vida, a la historia; e, incluso, a la muerte. Por eso, el Adviento es el Tiempo de la Espera, un tiempo para disponernos a preparar los Caminos del Señor: sólo desde esa apertura-disponibilidad será posible Reconocerle. Esto es celebrar la Navidad, vivir su presencia como salvación y esperanza. Éste es el tiempo que iniciamos. De ahí que la invitación de este primer domingo del Adviento sea “estad siempre des-piertos” . Es necesario: sólo así tendrá sentido este Adviento y nuestra fe y esperanza en el “Señor que viene”. JESÚS es nuestra ESPERANZA. ¡Dichosos quienes esperan su venida: porque Él llenará sus deseos más profundos y vitales!

Sábado, 8 de diciembre, es la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción, patrona de los Estados Uni-dos de América. Es un día de obligación. Tendremos dos misas para celebrar la Solemnidad de María en la Basílica. Además de la misa diaria de las 7:00A.M. habrá una a las 10:00A.M. ya que este día es Aniversario del Segundo Centenario del terremoto que destruyó la Iglesia de Piedra en la Misión Histórica con una pér-dida de 40 vidas. La “puerta de la fe” y nuestras “puertas” Meditación
“La puerta de la fe” (Hechos 14:27) está siempre abierta para nosotros. Nos introduce en la vida de comunión con Dios y nos permite la entrada en su Iglesia. Se cruza ese umbral cuando la Palabra de Dios se anuncia y el corazón se deja plasmar por la gracia que transforma (ver Benedicto XVI, La puerta de la fe, 1). Este Año abre la puerta de la fe invitándonos a renovar nuestra amistad con Cristo y a redescubrir las enseñanzas de la Iglesia, y el Adviento abre la puerta de un nuevo año litúrgico. Con la apertura de estas “puertas” espirituales, con-sidere cómo parecen las puertas físicas en nuestras vidas: nuestra iglesia parroquial, nuestra casa o apartamento, in-cluso mi habitación. ¿Qué ve la gente, afuera, antes de que abre la puerta? ¿Hay ramas, flores, una corona de Advien-to—adornadas a lo mejor con cintas o tejidos de colores (¿litúrgicos?) apropiados—que ofrecen una bienvenida sin palabras que proclama un saludo afectuoso y personal? Además de información práctica, es posible que el vestíbulo de la iglesia ofrezca una meditación visual también. Durante este Año de la Fe, ¿por qué no hacer lo mismo en casa por el resto del año? Las decoraciones navideñas, adentro o afuera, ya son la costumbre. ¿Por qué no planear algo similar para el Adviento, la Cuaresma, la Pascua o incluso el Tiempo Ordinario? Coloque el pesebre navideño de la familia en un lugar de honor justo dentro de la puerta, para que los visitantes a su casa puedan verlo inmediatamente. Durante la Cuaresma, reemplácelo con un crucifijo, luego un icono de la Resurrección o un cirio pascual, una imagen de Nuestra Señora durante el mes de mayo, etcétera.

X Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano En la Vigilia Pascual, además de recibir el Bautismo, también reciben la Confirmación y la Sagrada Comunión. Durante el proceso, se participa en distintas etapas, así como ritos. Estos nuevos miembros, pueden ser desde ni-ños mayores de 7 años hasta adultos, que:
A) no han sido bautizados, o fueron bautizados en otra religión y quieren ser católicos; B) o son católicos bautizados que nunca recibieron ninguna formación bíblica o doctrinal sobre la
Iglesia de su propio bautismo, y por lo tanto no han recibido los Sacramentos de Comunión ni de Confirmación.
A éste proceso, o camino de fe, es conocido como Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos, y se le llama de una ma-nera mas corta como R.I.C.A.. Es un privilegio que aquí en la Misión Basílica contemos con éste proceso, que desafía nuestro estilo de vida. ¡NO ESPERES MAS! Si eres mayor de 18 años y aún no has recibido los sacramentos de BAUTISMO, CONFIRMA-CION o COMUNION. Te invitamos a que vengas y te prepares. Tenemos clases para ti. Durante el pasado año el Consejo Pastoral ha trabajado diligentemente en desarrollar una encuesta parroquial que estará disponible para todos los feligreses este diciembre. Las parroquias que toman en serio el servir y mantener vibrante la vida parroquial, constantemente buscan el mejorar la presencia del ministerio por medio de la gente que es llamada al servicio. El propósito de esta encuesta es la de “escuchar atentamente” a todos y cada uno de los miembros de la parroquia para poder servirle mejor en el futuro. ¡Este pendiente!

¿Qué debo hacer al prestar mi casa para una posada? No tenga miedo prestar su casa para una posada. La responsabilidad no es solo de usted, sino que hay un grupo que le ayudará en todo. Su responsabilidad sería la siguiente: Estar presente a la hora asignada, cuando lleguen los peregrinos. Abrir las puertas y dar la bienvenida. Comunicarse con la persona que está asignada a la fecha de su posada. Si es posible, arreglar su casa con arreglos navideños. Invitar a sus vecinos a participar. Asegurar que hay un lugar donde romper la piñata. Colocar señales para saber donde está el lugar de la posada y marcar donde más se va a pedir posada. Hablar con la persona de la Iglesia para saber con que puede usted y su familia cooperar (canela, aguinal-
dos, dulces, etc.). También hablar sobre la seguridad y los límites en el uso de su casa. La persona encargada en la Iglesia será responsable de: • Guiar el rosario y pedir la posada. • Traer lo desechable (platos, vasos, cucharas, etc.), si es necesario. • Traer la(s) piñata(s) y aguinaldos. Los que se necesiten. • Traer el palo y el paño para cubrir los ojos. • Notificar al Depto. de Policía sobre la posada para asegurar que no hay problema. • Cuidar el orden durante la posada. • Recoger todo lo que llevó y ayudar a los anfitriones en la limpieza. Dejar la caja con todas las cosas para la posada del día siguiente. De antemano, les damos las gracias por abrir sus puertas y su corazón lleno de bondad al dar un espacio a Jesús por medio de está celebración. No tenga miedo, Jesús siempre tiene algo para los que le abren las puertas.
