Thirty First Sunday in Ordinary Time Contemporary Rite, p. 63

Penitential Rite, p. 66

Entrance Hymn V. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; R. Reform your ways and your deeds, so that I may remain with you in this place. V. Glory be... R. As it was…

A Reading from the Book of Malachi Malachi 1:14b-2:2b, 8-10

A great King am I, says the LORD of hosts, and my name will be feared among the nations. And now, O priests, this commandment is for you: If you do not listen, if you do not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name, says the LORD of hosts, I will send a curse upon you and of your blessing I will make a curse. You have turned aside from the way, and have caused many to falter by your instruction; you have made void the covenant of Levi, says the LORD of hosts. I, therefore, have made you contemptible and base before all the people, since you do not keep my ways, but show partiality in your decisions. Have we not all the one father? Has not the one God created us? Why then do we break faith with one another, violating the covenant of our fathers? This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Psalm

In you, Lord, I have found my peace. (Psalm 131) A reading from the First letter of St. Paul to the Thessalonians. 1 Thessalonians 2:7b-9, 13

Brothers and sisters: We were gentle among you, as a nursing mother cares for her chil-dren. With such affection for you, we were determined to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our very selves as well, so dearly beloved had you become to us. You recall, brothers and sisters, our toil and drudgery. Working night and day in order

Deacon’s Dialogue Rev. Mr. Richard Kasprzak

Four hundred years before the time of Christ, Israel was conquered by Alexander the Great, who added Israel to his empire. Now, Alexander was a Macedonian, but he had been educated by some of the greatest Greek teachers, the greatest of which was Aristotle. From them, he acquired a love of Greek culture and language, and he brought this love in-to the countries that he conquered, including Israel. The Hebrews had four hundred years to absorb some of this Greek culture, and saw a widespread use of the Greek language in Israel. Greek was one of the languages in which was written the message on the placard nailed over the head of Christ on the cross. That still leaves two languages that were in-scribed on the placard. The common language spoken by the people was not Hebrew as was thought. Hebrew was used by the well-educated members of society, priests, scribes, etc. The language spoken most often was a version of Aramaic, called Jewish Palestinian Aramaic, and was most probably the language spoken by Jesus. Pilate was the one who had inscribed unto the plac-ard, and he would not have used a language that was common, probably did not even know it, so Aramaic would not have been on the placard. He had it inscribed in Hebrew, and the last of the three languages was Latin, which was the language use by Romans for official business. So the three languages were Hebrew, Latin and Greek. Another tragedy today, Tuesday in New York. People were killed and injured by a pickup truck driven into a bicycle path by a person whom, we hear on the news, presumably is Muslim. This time, the man was injured by police, taken to hospital, and is currently under-going surgery. Not good.

not to burden any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. And for this reason we too give thanks to God unceasingly, that, in receiving the word of God from hearing us, you received not a human word but, as it truly is, the word of God, which is now at work in you who believe. This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God

Gospel Acclamation V. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia V. You have but one Father in heaven and one master, the Christ. R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. Matthew 23:1-12

Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees have taken their seat on the chair of Moses. Therefore, do and observe all things what-soever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens hard to carry and lay them on people's shoulders, but they will not lift a finger to move them. All their works are performed to be seen. They widen their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels. They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues, greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation 'Rabbi.' As for you, do not be called 'Rabbi.' You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers. Call no one on earth your father; you have but one Father in heaven. Do not be called 'Master'; you have but one master, the Christ. The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted." This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to You, Jesus Christ.

Prayer of St. Michael

Holy Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God cast in-to hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

A Note From the Pastor! This week, we will continue our Angel Wing production at 9 AM each day. This is

an enjoyable and necessary part of our Parish existence, however, let us not lose sight of the fact that we do this fundraiser, and others, so that we can continue the mission of the Church… to praise God, to further the Kingdom of Heaven, and to be able to worship each day of the week the Holy Mass.

Have a blessed week! Fr. John
