Give Thanks to the Lord By: Joshua Kapika

How often do you offer thanks

to God? Do you take time at the

end of your day to say thank you

for the blessings you have

received? It is easy to forget to

offer thanks to God. We often go

through life so worried about

making it through the day that we

often fail to recognize those little

moments when God has either

saved us or blessed us.

In todayʻs gospel, Luke 17:11-

19, we hear the story of Jesus’

encounter with the ten lepers.

He sends them off to show

themselves to the priest and along

the way they are healed, yet only

one returns to offer thanks to

Christ.

It is easy to get caught up in

our day. It easy to overlook the

blessings God gives us, but it is

still important to offer thanks

to God who is the

source of all grace

and blessing in our

lives.

There are many

ways in which we

can practice an

attitude of gratitude

and there is no

better place to start

than at the start of

our day. When we

wake up, we should

be grateful to Christ

for blessing us with

another day of life.

We don’t know the

time or the place

in which we will

be called home.

So every new day

is a blessing worth

thanking God for.

Our days become busy and

we sometimes forget to thank

God right away, but there is

always enough time at the end

of the day to give him thanks

and praise. Before going to

bed and just before our head

hits the pillow, we can offer a

prayer of thanksgiving.

A good practice for night

prayer is to make an examination

of conscience. Here is when we

can examine our day. Did we do

good, have we failed in anyway

and are there any blessings that

we should be thankful for? After

making this short examinination

we can then pray to God and

thank him for all that he is done.

We should always carry

with us an attitude of gratitude.

There are many things to be

grateful for in our life, our

faith, and the people around

us. All these things we have

because of God and therefore

he deserves our thanks. We

may not always realize it right

away, but if we make an effort

to offer thanksgiving at the start

and end of every day we can

begin to live a life of constant

gratitude to the Father.

ANNUAL OCTOBER MASS COUNT

October is the month our Diocese asks

parishes to conduct a count of the number of

adults and children attending the Saturday Vigil

and Sunday Masses.

Beginning first Saturday Vigil and first

Sunday of October, our usher volunteers will

be counting for mass attendance while the

celebration is going on. Don’t be surprise if you see them around

counting. This is one of the things we usually do every year. I

would like to thank our volunteers for doing a wonderful job at

St. Michael and Sts. Peter and Paul. Anyone who is interested to

join the Ministry, please don’t hesitate to call the office.
