Honors Criteria for Math
● iReady score of early to mid 6th
grade in the majority of categories
● Mastery of basic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division) using
whole numbers
● Able to compute all types of fractions and decimals
● Ability to problem solve in different ways
● Ability to work with mathematical concepts in fluent, flexible, and creative
ways
● Persistence and motivation in solving difficult problems
● Has been able to maintain a 4 on a standards based report card in the majority
of categories
● Completes homework on time
● Outstanding work ethic
● Can self-monitor
● Teacher Recommendation
Differences Between Math 6H and Math 6 AH
Math 6H
● 7th grade standards
● Should be able to skip a year of grade
level math
● Early 6th grade level in iReady

● 7th and 8th grade standards

Special Education-SAI
● Our department is led by 4 dynamic and highly trained teachers and one amazing school
psychologist
● We work closely as a team to best meet the unique needs of your children
● There are Special Education support classes for English, Math, History, and Science
● We provide 100% access to the general ed curriculum while working on their IEP goals
● All other support services that a student receives in elementary school, like speech,
Adapted PE, and occupational therapy will continue per their IEP at Las Palmas.
● Our school psychologist and teachers meet with the elementary schools to ensure a
smooth transition for your child and to review their IEP services.

What is AVID?
● Develops Organizational and Critical Thinking Skills and Prepares
students for COLLEGE!
● Tutors 2 times a week to assist with Academic Classes
● Weekly Binder Checks to help stay organized - Supplies/Notes/Agenda
● Uses WICOR strategies: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization,
Reading
● 2 College Field Trips
Physical Education● Students will have a Physical Education class
everyday.● Students will receive a lock and locker to store the
Las Palmas PE uniform (purchased during registration)
● Students will participate in a wide variety of team sports and will perform daily physical fitness exercises.
● Units taught throughout the year: Volley-Tennis, Basketball, Soccer, Ultimate Football, Softball, Frisbee Golf, Line Dancing, Physical Fitness (Mile Run)

● Built on belief that students can help students succeed
● Selected 8th grade students are trained as positive role models and
leaders who guide our 6th graders to discover how to become
successful in middle school

Las Palmas After School Athletics Program
The Las Palmas Sports programs offered are:
Football, Girl’s Volleyball and Cross Country (September)
Basketball (December)
Track and Field (March)
● Las Palmas participates in the East San Gabriel Valley Middle School League● There is a 3 day try-out process before a team is formed.● All students can participate in any of the after school sports programs.● All Student-Athletes must maintain a 2.0 Grade Point Average in order to participate.● All Student-Athletes must maintain good citizenship marks.
