Parents Orientation KS1 Saturday 17 th October 2015 Welcome Welcome to Key Stage 1. We would like to go through some important points for this coming year. We are all excited about this year and hope that you are too! Attendance and Lateness Everyday is a school day! It is important to your daughters education that she comes to school everyday. Missing school will affect her report card and she will miss out on learning. School starts at 6.50am and finishes at 1.25pm, any lateness will result in your daughter missing valuable teaching. Early duty is from 6.30am and is in the auditorium for Years 2 and 3. Please ensure your daughter does not stay in class but goes to the auditorium where she will be supervised. Uniform Please ensure your daughters uniform, particularly her jacket, is labelled with name and class, in English. Pay attention to the class timetable as only PE Uniform should be worn on PE days. Years 1-3 will have swimming during the 1 st Term. Your daughters hair must be tied up and stray hairs kept in by hair clips. No nail polish is to be worn by your daughter and nails are to be kept short. No jewellery to be worn in school at all times. Resources Your daughter must bring the following to school: Pencil case, labelled with her name and class. Writing pencils and coloured pencils. Eraser Sharpener Ruler Whiteboard pen Glue stick Scissors Praying in School We are proactive in school and pray every day. Your daughter is encouraged to pray with her classmates and needs to being the correct prayer clothes. Please ensure your daughter brings her sheila, abaya and prayer mat, you can bring it in a separate bag with her name and class on it. We suggested that your bring it to school on a Sunday and take it home on a Thursday to wash it and keep it clean. Homework In Year 2 and 3 your daughter will be given homework on a Sunday, this is to be returned on a Thursday. We do not encourage you to do all the homework in one night, please spread the activities out over the week. Homework is a consolidation of what your daughter was learning the week before. Every Thursday there will be a spelling test, encourage your daughter to learn and use each word, not just memorise for the test. Homework should only be completed by your daughter, we advise supervision for your daughter but the work she submits should be her own. Homework Letter Year 2 and 3 Homework can be done on the homework sheet but must be pasted into the homework copybook. The homework letter will tell you when your daughter has assessments pay close attention to this. Parent Letters Year 2 and 3 This letter will tell you what your daughter will be learning this week. Pay close attention to this letter, if we require anything to be brought in for projects we will let you know. Our parent letter contains valuable information please read it carefully for updates on what is happening in school. Active Learn Logging On We will use Active Learn to give your child reading books and different activities to complete throughout the year. You can access it by logging on. We will send your daughter out their username and password. Active Learn Home Page This is your daughters home page. My Library will contain different books that she can read. The more books she reads, the more questions she answers about those books, the more points she will get. She can use these points to get rewards for her home page. Reading Books Your daughter will get a reading book home from the teacher. If the reading diary is not signed by an adult then she will not receive a new book. Reading should take place every night and should read for approximately 15 minutes every night with an adult. If your daughter looses a book then they will not be allowed a new book until there has been a payment of 50QAR received for this lost book. Quizzes and Assessments Once your child has completed a quiz or an assessment it will be sent home. You must sign and return the papers the following day. If you do not return the papers or sign the papers then you will not be sent any further tests, you will have the opportunity to view these in school. Should you have any questions about the assessments then please do not hesitate to contact your daughters class teacher. Cafeteria In KS1 your child will eat in class. They should bring with them a healthy packed lunch, no chips, nuggets, chocolate or dough nuts. If you wish your child to have food from the cafeteria then this must be purchased before 6.50am, your child will not be given permission to go to the cafeteria during the day. There will be an option for parents to purchase food which will be delivered to her class. Mothers Events Throughout the year we will have different events and activities. We will invite the mothers to attend these events and would encourage you to join us. We would like to ask for your co- operation this year and join us regularly for our events and activities.
