PARENTS NEWSLETTER TERM 4, WEEK 3 28 October 2016 Maranatha Christian School 180 Hill Road, Belmont, Lower Hutt 5010, New Zealand T 565 0749 E [email protected] W maranatha.school.nz Dear Parents/Caregivers, I trust that you all had a blessed time with your families last weekend. I researched the background to Labour Day and came up with this interesting information: The year 4, 5 and 6 camp has been a big focus this week. Mr Farrand, Mr Viljoen and a group of parents have worked hard at preparing what is hopefully going to be a wonderful time for the students to learn and grow in different and exciting ways. We pray that this will be an experience that the students will look back on as one of the highlights of their time at Maranatha Christian School. Thank you to the staff and parents who have sacrificed time and energy to make this a special time for the students. Thank you for your prayers for safety and protection for all those involved. Athletics is another focus this term and the year one to eight students participated in field and track events building skill and fitness. A team has been selected to participate in the Western Zone Athletics meeting next Tuesday. We wish them well as they represent our school and our Lord, both on and off the track. The New Entrants, meanwhile, work on developing their fundamental movement skills which are more appropriate to their level. During the 19th century, workers in New Zealand tried to claim the right for an 8-hour working day. In 1840 carpenter Samuel Parnell fought for this right in Wellington, NZ, and won. Labour Day was first celebrated in New Zealand on October 28, 1890, when thousands of workers paraded in the main city centres. Government employees were given the day off to attend the parades and many businesses closed for at least part of the day. The first official Labour Day public holiday in New Zealand was celebrated on the second Wednesday in October in 1900. The holiday was moved to the fourth Monday of October in 1910 and has remained on this date since then. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

Tumanako Christian College Tumanako Christian College will be holding an information evening at Maranatha Christian School hall on Wednesday, 9th November 2016 at 7.00 pm. Anyone interested in learning more about the new school is welcome to come along. Please visit their website here for more information.

Summer Uniform

All children should be in their full summer uniform now. Sunhats are required every day otherwise the children will need to stay in the courtyard during morning tea and lunchtimes. If you are putting something underneath the blouse/shirt for extra warmth, please ensure it is the same colour so it doesn’t stand out. NZ Uniforms will be opening a shop in Lower Hutt in December which is great news!

Lost Property

Please remember to name every item of clothing for your child/ren! We have quite a number of uniform items in our lost property box with no names and have no way of knowing who they belong to. Please remember to check the lost property box (outside the library) frequently. The office have loaned out quite a number of uniform items (PE shorts, undies, shirts etc) and have not had these returned. Please look through your child/ren’s bag/drawer to see if any of them have “office” in the label. We need these back for “little accidents” that happen regularly. Thanks!

MUSIC LESSONS at Maranatha Christian School with Goodtime Music Academy are available for just $12.50 p/w! Students have the opportunity to learn the guitar, ukule-le, drums, or keyboard. These are weekly 30min lessons which take place at school, within school time for your convenience. ENROL your child by simply going to goodtimemusicacademy.co.nz Spaces are limited, so get in quick!!
