Last Friday’s Family Fun Day (Picnic) at Raumati Marine Gardens was a great success. My thanks to the school staff, the team from Kapati Miniature Railway and our wonderful whānau for making this day a fantastic experience for our students.

Special Moments captured on camera…

The purpose of our annual picnic is to create an opportunity, early in the year, for our school community to come together in fellowship, establishing and/or re-establishing relationships and connections with one another. Over the past few years, Raumati Marine Gardens has provided us with the ideal setting to achieve this purpose.

Suggestions have been made that we consider a closer location for next year’s picnic. These suggestions will be considered for 2019. The reason Raumati Marine Gardens remains our preferred location is due to the following factors…

There is no ‘body of water’ present in the park (a significant Health & Safety consideration).

All activity areas are contained within an easily observable/patrolled space.

The gardens provide a playground, sandpit, flying fox, water splash pad, open area for sports and BBQ facilities…

The Kapiti Miniature Railway is part of the park.

Raumati Marine Gardens is not too busy during the school day.

Feedback captured about the day…

“I loved the water splash pad!” Natasha

“The sausage sizzle and ice blocks were awesome! Elisha

“The playground was fun, especially the see-saw!” Cassia

“I loved climbing the trees!” Jefferson

“What a nice quiet day!” Office Ladies :o)

Looking Ahead…

Teaching staff are currently working on establishing a new Home Learning initiative for Year 3 to 8 students. This is a series of optional Home Learning Challenges that we will encourage students to try. More information will follow in upcoming weeks… stay tuned!

Care Monkey— Very Important

As you will have noticed, we use Care Monkey a lot! This is a very important tool for us to collect information through, therefore it is really important that all eForms are completed as quickly as possible which minimises needing to send reminders. Thank you for your help in this. If anyone has any trouble with accessing CareMonkey, please contact the office—we’d love to help! Please also remember to update your Care Monkey profile if any of your contact details have changed over the holiday period (including any important medical information regarding your children). The office receives notification from Care Monkey of any changes made to your profile, and we update our school management system from that. Please also remember to include an emergency contact name and number on your profiles in case of emergency.

Mathletics The annual rollover of Mathletics has been completed. Students user names and passwords are unchanged. New students should have received this information from their class teacher. Please contact the class teacher if you/your child has forgotten their login details. Maths groups have been, or will shortly be, set by each class teacher. Please also contact the class teacher for queries about maths groups. It’s encouraging to see the enthusiastic participation of students using this programme!

News from the PTA Hotdogs!! These are not open for orders yet. We are currently looking into our obligations under the new Food Safety Act. If we do carry on with them, we’d love some more volunteers to help prepare & serve them on Fridays. Please email [email protected] —full training given!

PTA AGM & Meeting Thursday 8 March,

7.30-9.00pm at Maranatha.

All welcome!

Book Amnesty for “readers”!

Please have a look for any reading books at home and send them in. Thanks!
