AYSO REGION 102PARENTS MEETING
MARCH 2020
AYSO SPRING 2020 SEASON
We are currently evaluating the season startup in light of the COVID-19 restrictions. This is being done in conjunction with AYSO National policies and local policies and requirements. Currently activities will not start until after Easter, April 12, 2020 at the earliest
We will keep everyone informed via emails, our website (ifsoccer.org), and our facebook page.
What is AYSO ?
Vision Statement
To provide world class youth soccer programs that enrich
children’s lives.
Mission Statement
To develop and deliver quality youth soccer programs, which
promote a fun, family environment based on the AYSO
Philosophies
AYSO PHILOSOPHIES
Everyone PlaysOur program’s goal is for kids to play soccer—so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least half of every game.
AYSO PHILOSOPHIES
Balanced TeamsEach year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible —because it is fair and more fun when teams of equal ability play.
AYSO PHILOSPHIES
Open RegistrationOur program is open to all children between 4 and 19 years of age who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing.
.
AYSO PHILOSPHIES
Positive CoachingEncouragement of player
effort provides for greater
enjoyment by the players
and ultimately leads to
better-skilled and better-
motivated players.
AYSO PHILOSPHIES
Good Sportsmanship
We strive to create a positive
environment based on mutual
respect rather than a win at all
costs attitude, and our
program is designed to instill
good sportsmanship in every
facet of AYSO.
AYSO PHILOSPHIES
Player DevelopmentWe believe that all players should
be able to develop their soccer
skills and knowledge to the best of
their abilities, both individually
and as members of a team, in
order to maximize their enjoyment
of the game.
AYSO is a volunteer-run organization.•Coaches, Referees and administrators are volunteers. Over 220,000 parents, neighbors, relatives and friends lend their time and talents so that each child gets a terrific AYSO experience.
•AYSO’s volunteer foundation ensures that it is all about what is good for the kids. It also makes AYSO very affordable. AYSO operates in a business manner, but volunteers ensure its “profits” are happy, healthy kids playing a sport they can enjoy for life.
How much do volunteers get paid?
We are all Volunteers and
work from home.

Referee Abuse
The following 3 slides show a concernthat alarms us regarding referee abuse
Referee Abuse• Referees are volunteers
• They strive to do their best
• The main reason there is trouble getting
referees is Referee abuse/harassment
• Help us help the game and don’t allow
Referee abuse
• 70% new referees quit after 3 years
due to abuse
Referee Abuse
• A 17-year-old soccer player in Utah pleaded guilty to homicide by assault in the death of referee Ricardo Portillo.
• “It’s not the ignorance of the child, it’s the poor manners of the parents. The yells and insults from the sideline from the parents make kids more violent.”
Referee Abuse
A Referee in Michigan dies after
being punched in the head by a
player he was about to send
off for a serious foul.

GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP
AT ALL TIMES
WHAT KIDS DON’T LIKEAccording to a survey reported in the Wall Street Journal, what kids dislike the most about soccer is the car ride home. Too often, the first thing a parent may say after a game is a critical remark, an accusatory question or offer “you should haves!” to their kids. This can cause any player to lose interest in playing and start to dread anything to do with participating in sports.
Parents often don’t realize the impact of their words and forget that kids seek approval and want to impress them during games. When players feel put down, they can lose their love for soccer.
