Hello Yellow Jackets!
The teachers and staff at SAHS are excited to hear about what you accomplished over
the summer break. We had a super 2013-2014 school year and we are aiming high to
achieve a great deal more within the classrooms, community based activities, and extra-
curricular events. Our returning teachers include Mr. Baker, Mrs. Banks, Mrs. Busey,
Mrs. Eaton-Stone, Ms. Eckhoff-Raimann, Ms. Henaghan, Mr. Holleman, Mrs. Kennen, Mr.
Ringwood, and Mrs. Williams.
Furthermore, you may see a few new faces (teachers and staff) within the department.
The teachers and staff are excited to continue their commitment to our students and
inspiring all our students to reach for the stars.
We eagerly await to hear about the great books that you read over the summer.
Go Jackets!!

New Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at St. Johns Tech
High School
The new Academy of Culinary Arts at St.
Johns Tech was recently established in
partnership with Nease High School’s Acad-
emy of Hospitality and Tourism. The Acad-
emies will be in start-up status for the
2014-15 school year, with full student
recruitment for the 2015-16 school year.
Both academies will run independently of
each other but, will work collaboratively
with community partners, opportunities
and events. St. Johns Technical High
School currently offers culinary classes.
By establishing an Academy of Culinary
Arts, SJTHS students will receive more
hands-on, industry relevant experiences
and certifications with the support of our
business partners. The Academy is more
than a cooking class, it is a path for stu-
dents to pursue a career in Culinary Arts.
Summer Bridge Camp at SJTHS
Incoming and current students, grades 6-
12, attended the Summer Bridge Camp at
SJTHS from June 9-26th. The mini session
allows teachers to become familiar with
the new students who will be coming in
and lets education specialists do some
screening. Principal Cynthia Williams said
the summer camp is tied to the St. Johns
County School District’s mission statement
that focuses on lifelong learning. “Our
summer camp is an extension of that vision
and embraces increasing student achieve-
ment, academic support and remediation,”
Williams said. “Additionally, we focus on
transition to the next year, engagement
through the use of technology, character
education, building communities and expo-
sure to career/technology fields.”

Mission Statement: To identify and meet the unique educational
needs of exceptional students and to provide support and resources
to enhance educational opportunities so they become productive
citizens.
ESE programs and services address the unique needs of students who
are gifted in kindergarten through 12th grade and those with mild,
moderate and severe disabilities from age three until they graduate
with a regular diploma or until their 22nd birthday. ESE programs and
services are designed to assist students in reaching their educational
goals through the use of instructional and behavioral approaches which
are research-based and exemplify best practices. Technology is used in
many creative ways to meet student needs as well.
ESE services are available at all district schools for gifted students and
students who have mild to moderate disabilities. Students with more
significant disabilities are served in cluster programs at selected sites.
Program support is provided to students, parents and school personnel
by program specialists based at the district office. Students with disa-
bilities who are not eligible for services through the ESE program, may
be eligible for an accommodations plan under Section 504 of the Reha-
bilitation Act of 1973.
