NEWSSalvatorian College
!Dear parents
It has been a busy and productive last week of term.I would like to extend my thanks to all teachers and pupils at the school, for their hard work and dedication to our school improvement agenda during this term. There have been many very positive successes, and I know that parents appreciate the hard work that the school is undertaking on behalf of our pupils.
We know that we are constantly making improvements and enabling our pupils to be successful both academically and spiritually. These are essential features of Catholic education. I would like to express my thanks to pupils in Year 11 who have conducted themselves in an exemplary way during the recent pre-public examination period.Pupils have been developing the most responsible attitudes to the examinations and the team of invigilators have been impressed. I look forward to seeing the Mock results in January! The pupils have set a very high standard for establishing and continuously improving our school culture and I am very proud of the progress they are making.I would like to thank parents and pupils for their generosity to our Christmas hampers appeal, which appears to be our most impressive effort so far. The pupils’ generosity is a reall testament to their families’ support and a deep recognition of our mission of helping those people who are less fortunate than themselves.
At the Carol service, we presented our Community Partnership Award to Waitrose, who have supported this year’s appeal and were so generous.
I would like to express my thanks to those colleagues who are leaving at the end of term, Ms Sheridan, Mr Doherty and Ms Watson and Mr Ayo, for all the work with staff and pupils. I would like to wish all colleagues every success in the future.I would like to wish all pupils and their families a happy and holy Christmas and a successful 2015.We look forward to welcoming pupils back to school on Monday, 5 January at 8:35.Yours sincerely,
!

Last
week
the
Duke of
Cambridge unveiled a
memorial to the Christmas
Truce. At the outbreak of the
war many believed they
would be 'home by
Christmas'.
Alas this proved not to be the
case and soldiers found
themselves still at the front
come Christmas 1914. !Pope Benedict XV has called
for an official truce, asking
'that the guns may fall silent
at least upon the night the
angels sang'. !This was rebuffed by the
commands of all sides.
However over the festive
season many unofficial truces
broke out on the Western
Front. British and German
troops sang carols together
from their trenches at night,
and during the day met in
no-mans land to fraternise,
give each other gifts and
even play a game of football
(the Germans won 3-2). !The truce reminds us that
Christmas is the time for
'peace on earth and goodwill
to all men'. !This is because the true
Christmas Truce is found in
the manger in Bethlehem.
The birth of Christ is truce
between God and humanity. !The symbolic exile of Eden is
over and once again God
walks with us: even more so
God is one of us. !The Christmas Truce of 1914
was sadly not repeated in
1915 or 1916. !The True Christmas Truce
continues.
!On Tuesday night the School
community gathered for
carols and readings by
candlelight. !The readings and carols
reflected the movement
salvation history towards
the Incarnation. !In his sermon Fr. Alex
reminded us that whilst
Founder’s Day celebrates
the foundation of the
Salvatorians; it is
Christmas, the birth of
the Divine Saviour, that is !
!the patronal feast of the
order and the college.
Carol Service
As in previous years this
endeavour has been
taken up by the boys
with great enthusiasm
and generosity. !Since the first week of
Advent form-groups
have been bringing in
food and gifts to make
up hampers for those
nominated by the
parish of St. Joseph's. !On Monday, teams of
boys working in shifts,
wrapped and packed
57 Hampers.
On Tuesday an eight-
strong crew of students
loaded up a mini-bus
and delivered hampers
around the borough. !As a school community
we also thank our
partners Waitrose,
Harrow-Weald and Mr.
Keith Savage of the 9th
Kenton Scout Group. !!!!Mark Davoren, School
Chaplain !There are some

St Dominic’s Interviews for Year 11
I am delighted to report that the Year
11 Mock Exams went extremely well. ! The boys showed maturity and
respect in entering the Exam Hall.
The Invigilators commented on how
well the boys behaved and the effort
they put into their exams. I am really
proud of the Year 11’s.
Thank you to the staff members that
supported the boys and assisted
with Exam Day procedures.
Thank you to the parents that
helped to make sure their sons were
prepared with the correct
equipment and were punctual to
school.
Thank you to the invigilators that
work tirelessly for the boys and have
worked closely as a team to ensure
that the boys get the best exam
experience here at Salvatorian
College.
I wish everyone a very merry
Christmas and look forward to a
successful new year. !Lesley Jones
