Book pickup yesterdayIt was so nice to meet almost all of you! Students from different homerooms received different items (on purpose). Please double check that you have these items, and if you did not attend, ask for these when you pick up books at school: ***Students have the same Hebrew book as last year. If they have it at home, they did not get one yesterday. If they lost it, and didn’t get one yesterday, please contact the Hebrew team. ***We HIGHLY recommend downloading the Google Chrome browser to your child’s device. We will primarily use Google Classroom, and this browser is the most user-friendly.
Supplies for Virtual Learning- Computer or tablet (NO cell phones)- Headphones - ELA: Notebook, markers, pencils, highlighters, pens- Writing: Notebook - Science: Notebook, index cards, colored pencils, glue sticks, scissors,
sticky notes- Math: Notebook, textbook and practice book
***Notebooks will be graded in person or virtually based on neatness, completion, and accuracy.
Logging into Zoom through Colegia Students will have the same username and whatever password that they have created. @bengamla.colegia.orgIf they have forgotten their password, there is a "Forgot Password?" button on the Colegia login page. If they still need help resetting their password then please send a quick email to [email protected] and make sure to include the following: Student first and last name, student Colegia username/email. NEW STUDENTS: Email your homeroom teacher for the username and password directions. ****Practice logging in TODAY so that you have no issues in the morning! Save the password on your browser and also write it down!
Zoom Expectations • Students log in on time (or early)• Quiet, secluded environment (as much as possible) with a desk, table or flat surface
to work on. No laying on beds/floors/couches. • Headphones are encouraged to help block background noise and focus. • Uniform shirts must be worn while on Zoom. Cameras must remain ON unless told
otherwise. • All supplies should be ready before class begins. • NO virtual backgrounds (too distracting) • NO parent or sibling visits in the Zoom classroom. Sorry- we’re too busy getting
smarter!!• If your child needs help (with internet, websites, etc), you may help them, but you
must type in the chat “I’m helping them with “ and then turn the camera and microphone off!
Zoom Expectations (Cont’d)• NO cell phones during class. They should be turned off, put away, or in
another room. We will email parents and document incidents of cell phone use during class. They need to borrow a laptop or ipad from Ben Gamla for class if they don’t have one.
• If you’re having internet or computer problems, please email us (from your phone). Students should report to Google Classroom, the Ben Gamla website, teacher websites, contact a classmate or the teacher to make up work. If internet connection resumes, students should attend office hours or come late to class.

Conferences
We will meet as a team of 3 teachers on Zoom. Email your child’s teachers or click this link: Schedule a conference with the 5th grade team

Contacting teachers- studentsQuestions about assignments (that need an answer quickly): attend office hours between 12:30-1:30pm Questions about assignments (with far away due dates): students email teachers directly through their Colegia email. Teachers may take up to 24 hours to respond. Questions regarding grades and missing assignments: Students email teachers directly. **We encourage the students to contact us about grades to promote responsibility, independence, work ethic, and finding their voice.
AttendanceAttendance for EACH class is imperative. This includes specials. Each teacher will take attendance individually, and students who are late/missing classes/ leaving early will accumulate minutes towards absences.
Zoom school starts PROMPTLY at 8:00 AM, have students begin to login around 7:45 AM.
Homework/Classwork Policies• Students are given 50 minutes worth of homework daily. • Late assignments will have 10% deducted for each day they are
late. Students will be given time during class, during office hours, and the afternoon to complete and get help on assignments.
• All assignments are due at 6PM on the due date. • Students need to complete 60 minutes of of i-ready math and
i-ready reading weekly (about 10-15 mins per subject daily). We recommend doing this from 1:30-2:00 daily. Teachers will pull the i-ready report at 2:30 PM on Fridays. This is an easy completion grade, and is research-based practice, tailored to your child’s needs.
• These minutes are weekly, and cannot be made up.
TutoringShould you want extra help for your child/other children beyond our office hours, we all offer tutoring in all 5th grade subjects!

Despite the circumstances, it is actually AMAZING that we are able to continue to get through the curriculum and reach academic goals online!
Besides learning 5th grade curriculum, this is a stellar opportunity for them to learn collaboration, email, online tools, and life skills!
