Curricular Pathways

S4-6 Unified Cohort Increased variety of courses and options Working collaboratively with partners Positively changes the ethos of the senior school

Pathways to Success = Improved Positive Destinations

In the Senior Phase young people:

*Build on what they achieved during the broad general education which took them up to 3rd year;

*Follow a learning pathway that is suited to their ability and what they plan to do when they leave school;

*Continue to build their literacy and numeracy skills;

*leave school at the end of S4 if they choose to with qualifications that help them make the step into work, training or further education;

*Build up important, skills for learning, life and work.

Qualifications - old* Most young people were presented for up to 7

qualifications in S4, 5 qualifications in S5 and up to 5 qualifications in S6 – totalling 17 qualifications over the three years of the Senior Phase.

Qualifications - new*Young people in S3 this year will have the opportunity

of being presented for 6 qualifications in S4, 6 in S5 and 6 in S6 – leading to at least 18 qualifications over the three years of the senior phase

*This revised model means we can use the same option form across S4-S6.

Choosing a curriculum pathway?

* University of Aberdeen Curriculum for Excellence Statement

“The University of Aberdeen currently does not stipulate a minimum number of Standard Grade and/or Intermediate 2 qualifications. This will be extended to include National 5 subjects. “

“We remain committed to promoting a fair admissions policy to ensure we give equal consideration to candidates who apply on time and who possess the necessary knowledge and skills, irrespective of the route travelled through the Senior Phase, S4 to S6.”

“In at least one of the Senior Phase years – S4 or S5 or S6, there is an expectation that a minimum of three Highers or Advanced Higher subjects are studied and presented for examinations.”
